Oh no...please don't let Twilight be dead...
I'm liking this badass, vengeful yet still generous Rarity... (Oops wrong emoticon to use with Rarity in this case )
And here I thought I was the only one to try doing this with character making a competition of sorts when fighting
Honestly, I want to retch as well right now...
Bwahahaha! Now that is funny! Especially since I imagined Heavy saying Medic and the Medic himself saying that!
Wow, Twilight... a bit much there? Also, I'm joining in with their laughter!
In all honesty, I wouldn't be surprised if there was such a thing in this world...
Sunset makes a good point here...
Well, what in emotional tone from the last argument...
This guy really wants to beat the tar out of him that's for certain...
Seriously? Out of all the times Sunset to argue about this? You do it now?
Holy crap Apple Bloom, seriously? Wow, I am both impressed and terrified
BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE!!!
Why do I imagine Twilight raising a finger each time she counted?
Game on people!
Bwahahahahahaha! That is diabolically hilarious!
Oh shit, bad imagery in my head making me sick...
Same imagery except, it's badass at it
While I did notice a lot of grammar and spelling issues, it's not surprising considering how many words are crammed into this chapter so I'll let it slide for now Boy do I enjoy this chapter! And I really am loving this Shock Gauntlet character... Well I think I'll end it here then!
7053604
Too early in the story for this to possibly happen.
7053644
Thanks
No, it's a relatively common trope; it's just that combat pragmatism wise, it's very stupid, but Twilight and Co. are no professionals.
Mature rating and "Gore" tag means something like this might happen. I have not tried adding more gruesome injuries yet.
Team Fortress 2 fan, I believe? Yeah... kinda funny if you do imagine Heavy and Medic. But honestly, I never even thought of them.
Well, we haven't seen a flying spaghetti monster in Equestria yet, so Twilight has a right to panic
And now you're tempting me to write a flying spaghetti monster into this story This is not comedy, damn it
Heh, who doesn't like their little sister being badass? But the argument between Applejack and Rarity is not resolved yet.
In my head, she wasn't
Ah snap that's what happens when you hurry to post it. Damn it. Care to point them out later, please? I am currently too tired
Thanks! I am really glad that you enjoyed this new antagonist.
Beyond impressive. Worth the wait.
7053823
I'm blushing here thanks!
Very good. Though a cliffhanger that threatens the life of one of the primary protagonists isn't much of a cliffhanger. That said, I'm very interested in how the girls manage to resurrect Twilight. Not literally resurrect, but it seems like she's close enough to death for it to count as such. Anyway, the little notes on new perks and whatnot is always cool. Lastly, I do wish Applejack and Rarity would just sit down and hash it out already. Maybe with what Hayseed did, Rarity can explain that, for their loved ones, people will do terrible, terrible things. Maybe cry a bit, hug, make up already!
Also, I look forward to finding Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rainbow Dash, or at least learning what happened to them.
7053805
Do it man, do it for the lolz!
But I'd have to read through the whole chapter again!
Twilight......?
Big ass Chapter
7054167
Depends on plot armour and plot magic bullets.
There has to be at least one confrontation and argument before that. After Hayseed's betrayal and how Apple Bloom was able to help save Twilight from Crimson Hands infiltrator, Applejack sees more clearly now that Rarity's situation is not as black and white as she wanted to believe, but knowledge of one of her closest friends killing her cousin in cold blood and without regret, plus wounding her hurts her too much to just accept Rarity back. (Keep in mind that she doesn't know that Rarity deeply regrets killing Braeburn; the only one who knows is Spike, and he told no one about it. Word of the author.)
I am afraid that until I finish Trottingham arc, we can't talk about this.
7054944
Next chapter will tell how bad it is.
7055226
I was determined not to break it apart, since I planned it to be whole. Not sure I'll do the same thing again soon...
7056065 Well, when I say 'sit down and hash it out', I mostly expected a screaming/crying match, so that sounds about right. I'm not asking to rush anything with the other half of the Mane Six either, I'm merely expressing interest in how they factor into the story, even if they don't make an appearance.
7056433
Good, we're on the same page Or maybe fisticuffs...
Everything relating the rest of the Mane 6 (plus other significant characters like Shining Armor, Celestia, Luna or Sci-Twi) is currently lying in spoiler territory. Until I finish the Trottingham arc at least, no further additions to the team are planned, so you're in for a wait. But there will be some familiar faces in Trottingham...
The type of round Rarity is firing is most likely what's referred to as a Boat Tail. It makes the air flow more smoothly around it and is less likely to be deflected if it encounters obstructions. At least, that's what most Match rounds use, and I suspect Rarity of being a handloader, so she's probably using Match ammo.
Also there's a point where you've used fiers instead of fires. Not an important thing, just something that caught my eye.
Oh no! Hunter's hat! How can he be a cowboy now?
If only he knew a beautiful young fashionista who could repair it for him while getting in some flirtatious brownie points!
*REJECTED*
Awww, well was worth a shot
For serious though, this was definitely a pretty action packed chapter with a lot getting done. Pretty much eradicating one the biggest thorns in Sunset and Twilight's sides, and genuinely a big threat to the wasteland. Also all the favors they've been doing for CWN and the Brotherhood coming to a head for an all-out assault on the compound. A very good build-up and while a little cliche, the 1 on 1 fights at the end were also well well worth the read. It'll be interesting to see the mercenary return, that's for sure.
My only nitpick is you've already done the 'Twilight on the verge of death' cliffhanger before, only for us to then see that Twilight did indeed level up and is probably gonna be okay soon hehe. Still, it is good to have protagonists that can be injured and realize the seriousness of their situation. Plus it'd be pretty cool for Twilight to walk away with some scars from the battle as a reminder for a later day.
As always, looking forward to the next chapters you come up with. I'm definitely still enthralled!
7056557
Is this related to a Hand Loader perk in New Vegas?
Thanks for telling me that; once I get myself to correcting the typos, I'll keep it in mind.
7057632
I'll see if he can get a new hat somewhere. But that'll take time.
Well, it's not the time to really threaten her with death right now. We aren't even close to the big-ass antagonists right now.
Primarily it was done to illustrate how Shock Gauntlet outmatches Twilight at this moment, even while doing some completely unpragmatic things thanks to a certain degree of arrogance (which stems from him having easily disposed of many characters that were similar to Daring Duo in views on fairness and justice). Even his equipment is more advanced; I already gave the stats of his AR-22 assault rifle, and his armour is of the class that pre-apocalypse UFE infantry used for assault operations and urban warfare, so he can take quite a beating. Twilight did a smart thing and did not try to face him one-on-one and head-on - this would just leave her a bullet-ridden corpse (and probably Sunset too, since she would not stand a chance against both opponents at the same time), trying to pull a fighting retreat and reunite with Sunset, correctly assuming that if she helped to get rid of Curve Blade in a minimal amount of time, they could at least pull a fighting retreat together and make Shock Gauntlet abandon his pursuit for fear of encountering the reinforcements.
Her plan almost worked; Shock Gauntlet, unfortunately for her, proved to be crafty enough to boggle her down and deal the severe wounds. However, since he did not escape unhurt, he will be more careful, should he ever encounter Twilight again.
7058161
Eeyup, I'm Russian
7058961 Sort of. Hand Loader as a perk is intended to simulate an actual handloader. Which is someone who loads their own custom rounds to ensure they're all as identical as possible. Because slight variations in powder loading from automated machines can cause entirely different flight characteristics. So it might drop too early, or fly over an intended target.
So Rarity would probably grab all the ammo she could, and disassemble and reassemble it to her specifications.
7059176
Yep, that might actually suit her personality; methinks such job would be tedious and require attention to details, which she doesn't lack
But my brain thinks she would use custom rounds only when she targets someone on her hit list or in other critical circumstances, while making use of standard issue military sniper .308 ammo generally.
Awesome chapter, even if work and school made me split up the chapter into parts to read because of time constraints. Very well written action, shows that the Daring Duo aren't invincible (a path that so many other stories take, they get a lick of action and suddenly they become gods), and shows so much more character building between not just our main two characters, but virtually everyone else with everyone else. Some of the best alliances are forged in the heat of battle, this certainly seems to be the case for Appletown and the BoS.
Also, I find it amusing that a Russian knows better for which is a Magazine, and which is a Clip. Not meaning that in terms of nationality (because anyone from any nation could figure it out with the right education), but because - like you have stated before - English is by far not your first language. Yet even with that handicap, you still can differentiate better than most English-speaking authors on this site (because although there are the few gem authors on here, let's face it - there are so many more poor authors who could benefit from much more instruction on how to write)....
EDIT: My phone's keyboard was being a bitch again, so I had to run through and fix many of the terrible auto-corrects the thing gave me.
7059309
Nuh-uh, that can't be allowed, and if I fall into that trap in the future, kick me hard.
I myself was corrected on that issue by The Spy of the Tiger. In Russia, people tend to say "clip" when talking about pistols, and I fell into that trap. Now I know better.
Thanks for the comment
7059058
Hehe, I was mostly joking around with that, you certainly don't have to if you don't want to! There certainly are more important things going on and Hunter would respect that hehe. Besides, I've already been surprised with how much you've cameo'd Hunter as it is! Like I was 100% expecting just the one time appearance and that'd be it, so each mini-cameo has been a wonderful surprise! I really couldn't ask for more without feeling greedy
Well mission accomplished for certain! Like I said, it was a nitpick, which means "If I had to find a fault in something, it'd be this", which goes to show that I fully enjoyed the chapter. I put off working for a good 30-60 minutes just to read the chapter too
7059272 All scopes have an eye-relief distance, where you're getting the proper sight picture. Many have a short rubber tube that the end of gives you proper sight picture, but also is far enough back not to lose an eye when you fire. F3's sniper rifles had one for example.
7059193 Not necessarily. There's actually a noticeable difference between match ammo and non-match. So if you're shooting with one, and then swap to the other, there's a period of adjustment while you're expecting the rounds to be have differently. I doubt Rarity has the ammo to waste readjusting herself between them. Particularly if she's handloading, since it is a somewhat time consuming process. She's more likely to make maximum use of the rounds she does have, instead of hoping what she picks up is close enough to her handloads to not waste shots missing.
So i see that this story is updated. Its 10:45 at night. No biggie, right? .... holy fuck! 30k chapter! ... Welp, so much for a good night's sleep.
Edit: 12:06 am. Totally worth staying up to read this. I mean, who needs sleep anyways?
7073061
I am glad that you feel it was worth it, but it's better not to ignore sleep. As I'm writing this, it's 08:38 a.m. and I am freaking sleepy.
Thirty-one-bloody-thousand words. Dammit, EA, I have things that need doing!
They're going to end up going there, aren't they.
7075811
Depends on how evil my brain is but no promises.
I might reveal just what's so nasty in Canterlot relatively soon, though...
I'm dying to see what happened to the rest of the main cast + Celestia and Luna and everyone... saw your comments about that being a while yet in the story, though, but I'm happy to know that -- a slow burn makes for a better story we'll wanna stick around for than if you gave everything away at the start! I'm just hoping they get to play an active role and aren't just passing mentions/fridged background story.
I've actually never gotten around to playing Fallout but this story has me interested enough I think I'm gonna pick up a copy... loving it, keep up the good work!
7079551
Start with 3. 3 is definitely worth playing, and you may as well go chronologically.
You could start right at the start if you wanted to, though. (I did. Worth it.)
7079551
The rest of Humane 6 are definitely important enough to play an active role in the future. I am fleshing out some plans for Luna, but have no idea what to do with Celestia as of right now.
I am glad that my story got you interested in Fallout series As ThatPoemGuy said, you may start with Fallout 3. So did I, to get familiarized with the universe with relatively little effort regarding compatibility issues (as Fallout 1 and 2 might). Then switch to New Vegas, which is, IMO, much better than 3, and maybe 4 - but I don't know how good it is.
Thanks, I'll do my best
7080020
Yeah that was my plan -- my brother's played 3, New Vegas, and 4 and he did pretty well selling 3 so I figure I'd start there.
7080360
Eh, Luna's my fave of the pair anyway Glad to hear it, though... I can't help kinda wince every time they mention one of their old friends -- it's a bit surreal, they know they could be dead but reminisce and joke just like it's a normal get-together of old friends and not, you know, years after catastrophic nuclear war. Is it denial or just coping?
Like I said above I'll probably start with 3, yeah. I crack up a bit whenever they loot bodies for ammo and stuff -- great game mechanic callback
7082748
Both, to an extent, I think. They know that the chances of survival are minimal to almost zero, but do not want to believe their friends are dead unless they see them dead.
Oh wow. This chapter was definitely worth the longer than usual wait. And I would have read it much sooner, if this damn site would have notified me about it properly!
I'm really feeling the tension between Applejack and Rarity, and as much as I sympathize with Applejack I can't help but feel she would go on a bloodthirsty rampage against any person or group if Apple Bloom had died the same way Sweetie Bell did. I'm not saying Applejack is a hypocrite, not even close, but I think she's trying hard not to understand Rarity's side because she doesn't want to admit that they're both pretty similar when it comes to what they're willing to do for their sisters. Even if they can't repair the damage done to their friendship, at the very least they could come to an understanding.
And this new antagonist, Shock Gauntlet, I seriously love his character. He very professional, highly experienced, and I'm even sensing a bit of honor coming from him. I can already tell that this isn't the last we'll be seeing from him. I just wonder what role he'll play before this is all over.
Not sure what else I can say. Keep up the good work.
7118188
Wait, you mean you have it on "Tracking" list but you did not see an unread chapter notice? That's a first.
Well, she would be less subtle, that's a given. Ever seen Desperado? Think in the same vein.
I'm glad He is here to stay for a while.
I wouldn't be surprised if pinkie pie was a leader of a (goodish?) raider group that takes out other groups and there base of operation was candy/ice cream factory
7263281
And they would raid other candy factories
Filthy hobbitses...
Really enjoying the story so far, dude.
7368616
Thanks
ouch
7443847
Ouch indeed.
Rarity used Groin Shot. CRITICAL HIT! Its super effective. Enemy raider has fainted. Rarity has earned 154 XP.
Thanks to this chapter, I now know the 9 people that would be best at fallout...
the tf2 mercs...
the thought of heavy weapons guy in a suit of X01 power armor terrifies me.
please make it happen, I beg of you!
8261156
I think the Heavy in power armour was called Frank Horrigan from Fallout 2
I don't think I'll add the mercs themselves, but some characters's tactics may fit into the archetypes of the nine mercs from TF2.
Yall gonna learn something today. Dogs can, in fact, see in color. But, not all colors. Theyre missing one of the primaries, red. They see color, but not in the spectrum we do.
Is it the good riot armor?
Great line
Phew... That was a long chapter. Okay... Well, I hate to be That Guy, but I have a small nitpick regarding the firearm mechanics. I actually had two, but it looks like you've fixed one of them.
Silencers (often called suppressors, Silencer is actually a brand name) do not actually make a gun quiet. That is a common trope present in video games and movies, but a suppressor is just designed to muffle the gun and help keep the user from going deaf. Even then, it's recommended that you use hearing protection while using suppressors. They're still pretty loud. However, I think you can get special ones for smaller caliber and/or subsonic bullets that enable you to be quieter. But something like a sniper rifle or a machine gun? Yeah, no.
For reference:
10744869
well hay wadda ya know its a FICTIONAL story about FICTIONAL characters surviving in a ALTERNATE UNIVERSE based on a VIDEO GAME about A FICTIONAL version of earth that suffered the ravages of nuclear war.
I think its safe to say reality went out the window a long fucking time ago.
also, pretty sure suppressors in the fallout universe from a game mechanic stand point work as described
Yay, the old married couple joke. (I do use it IRL)
