I have to say, the story laden with far too much exposition. It drags on and becomes a bit of a chore to read, despite its short length. The story also doesn't really deliver on the "ponies rebuilding" concept. There's a lot about them descending into banditry and raiding, but very little about them rebuilding communities, forming friendships, creating harmony. The reader doesn't really get the sense that ponies have rebuilt anything; they don't quite move on from the past and the suggestion that life is going to improve for ponykind isn't really there.
