Let me Show you My World

"Come on Twilight you got to try it sometime," says a tomboyish, yet unmistakably feminine voice. Rainbow Dash had been standing at the door of the Ponyville Library for some time and she was beginning to lose her patience.

"Look Rainbow, I appreciate the offer but...I'm just not ready okay." replied another feminine, if not somewhat bookish voice. Twilight Sparkle knew she shouldn't treat a friend like this, locking the door on them and all, but the former unicorn had been through a lot lately.

It had been a week since what everypony called her "Ascension" to Alicornhood. To say that the event was unorthodox would be an understatement. Never in living memory had such a thing occurred, or at least never in living "mortal" memory. Nopony was exactly sure how to approach this situation. There were mixed reactions across the board. Some reactions were negative, charged out of ignorance, fear, or jealousy. Others heralded her as the next in the line of Princess!

"A normal everyday unicorn turned into an Alicorn?" somepony would say.

"How ridiculous!" some said in skepticism.

"What a freak!" others said.

"Heresy! She must have done some black magic or something. There's no other way some pony could become an Alicorn like that" some accused.

Others choose to look at the pony that Twilight acted as, instead of what she looked like. They chose to let the content of her character decide their opinions.

"She's the Element of Friendship for Celestia's sake! Theirs no way she could have gotten these gifts without a good reason" they argued, "She's saved Equestria tons of times how can you doubt her?"

Yet, even those who didn't out right ostracize her, couldn't help but feel a twinge of fear. What did this mean for Equestria? At first Princess Celestia was the first, and only Alicorn most Equestrian's knew their entire lives. Only the extremely scholarly were even aware of the fact there was an Alicorn of the night once. Then all of a sudden it's reviled, like in some cheesy plot twist, that turns out Princess Celestia had a sister!

However, the fact the new Alicorn was the Princess of the Sun's sister helped quell any disputes, well that and the fact nopony wanted to incur the wrath of Nightmare Moon. Then there was the revel of Princess Cadence, yet even that was excusable. For she was still of royal blood. But Twilight Sparkle? A unicorn with no drop of Alicorn or Royal blood becoming an Alicorn?

To be honest even Twilight Sparkle wasn't sure to make of her new status. Princess Celestia had told her that this was the next step in her training, that this was her destiny. In spite of her mentor's words of wisdom the purple mare still had her doubts. Twilight never sought fame or fortune, she was content with her life as Celestia's student and Ponyville's librarian. Any act of heroics she did out of duty to Equestria, not for any sort of recognition or glory.

Yet, here she was. Glancing her mirror she hardly recognized her own reflection! What stared back wasn't the Ponyville Librarian or Celestia's student. No, what glared back was a stranger, a stranger some ponies hated, a stranger some ponies feared. Worse of all Twilight was one of them. A voice snapped her back to reality.

"You gotta come out of there eventually Twilight" reminded Rainbow Dash.

"Look Rainbow...I just need some time to think okay?" said Twilight. Rainbow Dash snorted, as if you don't do a lot of that already.

That mare had walled herself in the Library ever since she changed. The girls said she just needed some time alone, Rainbow didn't buy that for a second. She may not be the smartest pony around but she definitely knew when her friends were upset, and Rainbow could tell Twilight was hurting. Come on Rainbow think!

"Have you even used them yet?" Rainbow asked. The purple mare blushed from behind the door.

She extended her wings tentatively, it was strange how alien her new appendages felt. In a way, it didn't truly feel like they were her's. She still woke up in the morning somewhat surprised by the existence of these new limbs on her person. She knew in theory what her wings could do. She had read about Pegasi wings a ton of times in anatomy books during her studies and two of her best friends were also pegasi, even her mentor sported glorious wings enabling her to soar across the sky.

True a really skilled unicorn may mimic flight with a "cloud-walking spell" but true flight was seen as something always beyond their grasp. It was a divine gift, bestowed upon the Pegasi and Alicorn races.

Yet here she was...a former unicorn...who wasn't born with the gift of flight...suddenly given a power that so many would give their left hoof for. Quiet weeping overtook her, racked with guilt and confusion. Rainbow could hear her friend on the other side of the door and knew she had to do something.

"Twilight...let me help you. Please. I don't know what you're thinking with that big brain of yours, but I promise that this isn't a bad thing." Rainbow beckoned. "In fact...I think it's kinda awesome!"

"Rainbow Dash...I appreciate what you're trying to do. Really I do. But I just need to be alone right now"

Rainbow Dash paced outside the door. She could sense that unless she did something quick Twilight would just bock her off for Celestia knows how long. No, she needed to do something now! Suddenly, inspiration hit the rainbow-maned pegasus like a ton of bricks.

"Twilight...do you want to see my world?"

Rainbow could hear the sniffling stop for a moment.

"Twilight...I know you're probably thinking up a bunch of stuff I could never even imagine right now. I'm not the smartest pony but I can tell you right now that those wings you got right now...they're a way to a whole new world."

silence

Rainbow summoned all her courage, "If you let me...I can show you...how pegasi...no how I see Equestria...all you have to do is let me in."

Rainbow stood at the entrance of the library awaiting her friend's response, terrified of the answer she might receive. Here has a pony so courageous she would charge a Dragon, and yet in those intervening moments, the pegusi had never felt more terrified in her life.

Then came the response.

The library door slowly creaked open. Relieving a weepy-eyed Alicorn on the cusp of tears.

"...Can you really help me Rainbow Dash?"

"I promise Twilight, all you have to do if grab my hoof and follow my lead okay?"

Twilight nodded, opened the door and gently held her friend's hoof.

Rainbow Dash held a warm and compassionate smile for her friend, holding back tears of her own trying to be brave for the both of them. She gently glided of the ground leading Twilight to do the same.

Twilight was like a panicky filly, as soon as her hooves left the ground her wings retracted and she clenched her eyes shut.

"Don't worry Twilight I won't let anything happen to you. I promise."

Looking deeply into her magenta eyes Twilight felt her fear dissipate.

"That's it just focus on me I got you," Rainbow reassured.

Both we're now hovering several feet off the ground.

"Good, good. You're doing great! Gently open your wings, there we go. Feel the wind through them and flap them to the rhythm of the breeze. There you go!"

With Rainbow's gentle coaxing the young Alicorn took her first tentative flaps into the sky's embrace. It was unlike anything Twilight had ever felt before, the weightless sensation and the feeling it brought was liberating in a way she never thought possible.

"I'm, I'm flying!" Twilight exclaimed gleefully.

"Yea you are"

They skirted past the tops of several Ponyville buildings and were only gaining altitude. Throughout it all Rainbow held a gentle grip on the young alicorn's hoof.

Twilight took in the sights. She had never seen an aerial view of Ponyville at night before but the sight was dazzling. Lights of ponies homes and business lit up the ground.

Yet, that was nothing compared the night sky. Twilight had studied the stars her whole life, but here in the air they were especially beautiful. She noticed that the higher they went the more stars reveled themselves, it was almost as if she were close enough to touch them. Almost as if she were a constellation herself.

Rainbow Dash, on the other hand, was so proud to see one of her best friends learn about the wonders of flying, right before her eyes. She needed a little coaxing but once she got the hang of it Rainbow knew that Twilight was a natural. It didn't stop there though. Rainbow wanted to show Twilight all the wonders she could manage.

So they spent the night soaring high over Equestria, high over their worries, elevated to the realm of clouds and dreams. Each enjoying the sights and sounds the journey brought. Rainbow Dash would point out some of her favorite landmarks that dotted the map from gigantic canyons that seemed to encompass the horizon to the barely visible glow of an all-night restaurant off in the distance. While Twilight would recount to Rainbow several of Luna's constellations in the night sky and point them out by name.

Thus their air ballet continued until it was time for sunrise, and Rainbow Dash had just the perfect spot for them to watch it.

So Rainbow and Twilight sat comfortably on rainbow's cloud of choice as Celestia raised the Sun over the horizon and watched as it's warm light spread across the land.

"It's all so beautiful," Twilight said in awe.

"Yea. No matter how many times I take flight, I never really get over the view from up here."

"I don't know how you can bear coming down"

"Oh, you know the ground has its' own sights too."

"Oh?" Said Twilight curiously "like what?"

Rainbow Dash pondered for a minute.

"Well, you know...Cider! Gotta get some of that good stuff you know" Rainbow said with a chuckle.

Twilight let out a little chuckle "Oh yes we cannot forget about Cider."

"Oh and Daring Do books! Gotta see what happens next right?"

"True, true. One definitely needs to see if our heroine will save the day" Twilight said playfully.

"...and...and you," Rainbow Dash said with a blush.

"...oh...really?"

"I mean ya! Of course! You're super smart! Super pretty! And...and to tell you the truth. I couldn't be happier you got those wings...because now I can show you what I see every day. When we go off to save the world and stuff, these are the sights I think off you know? They're what keep me going."

Twilight looked beside her and knew that here in the air Rainbow Dash was in her element, and Rainbow had decided to share her world with her.

"You, the girls, and all of Equestria..." she said gesturing to the magnificent landscape before her "all of that...it's what makes getting up in the morning all worth it you know? The feeling you get when you're soaring sky high is just awesome you know?"

"Well...now I know...thanks to you," Twilight said. As she said this she gently snuggled to the pegasi beside her.

Rainbow blushed at this but after a momentary pause wrapped a wing around her. Maybe ponies would still say things about Twilight, maybe things would never be the same. Yet, here in this moment, everything was just perfect.

Author's Note:

Both a parody of a beloved Disney song and a Criticism on the brony drama surrounding the Twilight Ascension. I wasn't a brony at the time but the whole fiascoe seemed silly to me. I saw that coming a mile away just from the first season. It was the whole "destined for greatness" thing. And i was proud to see our little Twily grow up

As I was writing this I know that it may seem weird as to why Twilight walling up herself in the library is such a big deal. But the intention that I wanted to convey is that Twilight was very much in danger of relapsing back into her old ways before she learned about friendship. Rainbow in this story is somewhat aware of this, which is why she is so tender in this story, pushing Twilight may be the wrong move.

Pretty nice, but a couple of errors with spelling:

It's Pegasi (Plural) and Pegasus (Singular), not Pegusi. Other than that and a couple of grammatical errors, this is pretty alright!

Luckily one Rainbow mained Pegusus

Don't you mean maned and Pegasus?

Those were just a few of the errors I found. Perhaps have an editor go over it to spot all the errors? It would help your story immensely

Ahh thanks. I tried to use the app Grammarly to make up for some of my more....egregious errors, butits eems some still slip through the rug.

8578050
Don't rely on an app for that. Get an editor

8578200
Valid point. But my schedule is rather tight lately and doesn't always link up with editors.

8578567
Oh ok. I guess that's understandable

There were some spelling and syntax issues, but it didn't get in the way of a very nice story.well done :pinkiehappy:
