Denial. It's an ugly thing.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for nopony to get any ideas and start Jason out on enforcing public executions. This is the groundwork for a genocidal campaign, laid out and waiting for the main event to happen.
I agree with Luna here. this entire story makes no sense, and the only reason it has this many upvotes is because some people like jerking off to pony tears!
Go ahead. Prove me wrong. I really want to see you prove me wrong. Please?
Damn, that's some deep stuff there. That's just... wow. It's actually hard for me to explain.
But keep up the good work.
Thank you. That was the missing piece, the section this story needed for any of Jason's actions to still be worth reading about. Now this story can move forward.
I feel so bad for the families and friends of the 'Six' when they find out why all of this had to happen... especially Spike. I think Luna will be in for a shock when she talks to Celestia. See, too, was under the influence on Discord's 'games' with Jason. I wonder what's going through his head right now. As for the rest of the citizens of Ponyville, a few of them were at that trial. A number of them realized what they did to Jason as well. Plus, when they hear about Discord's part in all this, they will likely blame him instead of the 'Six'.

This chapter is basically the entire story just furiously backpedalling, which really could have all been avoided becoming necessary to begin with by just leaving out the Discord thing altogether... but, at least, now we're back at start and the entire thing can progress as if it had never happened.
Thank you for the new, wonderful, chapter. Can't wait for the next onw.
7789286 Well, it kind of needed to take this step and then backpedal in order to make sense. Otherwise there's no explanation for anything. The only way it might have been better is if Luna was behind everything. Go look at my comment on chapter ten for the full theory.

It still leaves you with a situation where "why did they do that? it makes no sense!" is replaced by "why did they do that? discord magic. how could they let themselves be influenced so easily? it makes no sense!" and really offers no better explanation, it just defers it by a level. The intermediate step isn't really answering anything. Fundamentally, this story runs on everyone being out of character, but we all already knew that when we started reading it.
7789303 Really, there's no way to win when it comes to this. Either characters act wildly OOC or they were being controlled/influenced. Both opinions are going to piss some people off, but the story doesn't exist without the main character being abused by ponies. That's why I tend to be iffy about these kind of stories.
in the end there won't really be a recovering from this, not a proper one anyway, faith in the crowns is broken, and rightfully so in this case, the public well question them now, they'll be inquires, investigations, possible uprising. likely to see separatist groups within a century, in the end I doubt the princesses well end up with more power between them then the queen of Britain.
7789249 lets not forget the fact that sweetie bell applebloom and scootaloo may have there faith in there sisters entirely shattered.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The swearing is totally out of character, though. Still, it makes for a good premise, and I like the hate-love relationship and struggle. I can sense that the main character doesn't want to do it, but he's just too pissed off. I know how that can make people feel.
7789128 With the power of denial and shouting over you. I PROVE YOU WRONG!
(sarcasm)
I hope that in the next chap that Jason doesn't get too hung up on Discord being dead. He did bring it on himself with the 5 year thing, and he made a good man go to war in a sense.
Can't wait to see what all the others think of them when they find out the truth.
7789128 First paragraph of the first comment. That's all I have to say.
7789128 Based on the l/d ratio, the burden of proof is on you, not the rest of us. Why isn't it possible? Give me a concrete reason that this scenario isn't possible.
The simple fact of the matter is that at the end of the day, it's all fiction, even the source material. None of us can say with absolute certainty that this can or can't happen. If you want to live in a world where the characters aren't capable of doing any harm or bad, then by all means, go for it, but that doesn't make this story any less plausible.
Oh... the sweet suffering... You girls deserve every bit of this beautiful despair... =3

Judging the plausibility of any point on the upvote/downvote ratio it receives is kind of stupid. By that kind of argument, The Abyss' porn would be some of the best writing on this site and, well, we all know how much that isn't true.
I mean, let's not kid ourselves: this kind of story makes no sense by default. Going by how the actual characters are written, they'd never ever behave in that fashion. The way the story had to come up with some horrid contrived reason to even remotely explain it (and even then didn't provide much of one) kind of proves it all by itself. There's really no quibbling about that, it's just a fact.
The thing is, though, sometimes, you don't want some complex story with deep Freudian motivations and excuses, you just want a story where horrible people get their comeuppance after getting away with it for far too long, because in real life, they nearly never do. If people read it without even getting the point, it's really just their own fault.
Let's start the rebuilding of the town.....
Ponyville 2.0: The Hamlet of Predjudice....
''The city built on racisme, and where we discriminate all non-pony races equally''

I dont understand how people can argue against how "insert character here" would act in any given situation, considering the fact you will never know how that character truly acts, you will not know their hate, love, fear, joy, hopes, dreams, aspirations etc. when you write a story the author ultimately decides how a character will/did react and how they will/are going to grow from the things they experience. Its why we like to read fiction so much, they generate entertaining "what if" scenarios. This story aims to answer one of those possible scenarios and for that reason it is doing well.
also, dont try to use porn as an example of stellar writing, we all know why porn gets so many upvotes
Oh, sweet god, I needed this chapter like a crack addict needs a good fix. The sweet suffering of these ponies is my bread, butter, and jam.

Honestly, pretty much all the OoCness and the huge plot holes are the products of the original fic. kildeez has done quite a good job explaining the reasons for the behaviors and patching the logic holes in this fic. The original fic was pretty meh itself but kildeez has managed to make a compelling story with sympathetic characters on every side. That is why we like the fic; it takes a boring rock and makes it into a sculpture, sure you may hate the sculpture but it's at least an improvement/refinement on a fairly forgettable rock.
As an aside while I am posting anyways, on the "it was Discord all-along" twist a few chapters back that people complained of being out of nowhere, after re-reading the first few chapters it is very plainly foreshadowed.
You're back!
I hope all ponies will come to hate them after knowing the truth, maybe a little witch hunt while at it.The reason is that the girls have burned their homes to the ground.
Also the fact I want to see more "justice", Jason's pain is not yet paid enough to satisfy me.I mean,FIVE YEARS!?And all we get is a dead Discord that and a "oh boy we feel bad, sorry bout that" thing.
P.s. A lil beat up would do trick, maybe give them the same treatment they have been giving Jason, especially Rainbow Dash, beating him up and electrocuting him isn't easily forgivable

I really agree, that's kind of the point: the fact that they're out of character is neither a point on favour of the story nor against it, because that's only a bad thing if you do it unintentionally.
The fact that it then couldn't just play it straight because Kildeez wanted to play some kind of weird reverse prank on his readers and somehow still makes them be out of character, despite desperately trying to make up a reason why they actually weren't, is what's the problem.
7790915
Well, I never said it came out of nowhere. I just said it was bad.
7789128 Okay, sure. You're not wrong. What's your point? Why do we play games like Gears of War? Is it because we need to prepare for some alien invasion with buff guys wearing barely t-shirts of armor and overbuilt guns? No, it's because we like watching blood go everywhere. We enjoy have someone else to point the finger at and say, "Look at how much better we are than you. This is what you deserve."
I see you've reached Awakening, but you are not yet Accepting. Trust me, one day you'll come to realize how stupid and base people can be and how futile it is to try and change their minds (or do anything really), and you'll just shrug and say, "Well, that sucks."
When a man finally achieves his goal and succeeds after years of working for it, he is then left with a strange conundrum.
What now?
not going to lie i did cry
7789128 Think of the politicians who the public thought were heroes, only to turn into scum when discovered they had been doing the naughty things behind the public's back. Think of the athletes kids look up to only to find out as adults those athletes took performance enhancing drugs to be better players. Consider those priests who were pillars of their respective communities, only they molested children when they thought no one was looking.
All of that is in this story.
Hell, for a good example, just watch Blazing Saddles.
No.
I'm willing to let some things slide for the sake of a good story, but this crosses the line. If they wouldn't have done what they did without Discord then yes, it was the spell. It was all the spell. That's all there is to it. Period.
Oh, if they want to feel guilty, that's perfectly fine. There are plenty of excellent stories on this site about characters dealing with the aftermath of being manipulated like this. But Shining Armor and Luna, a.k.a. Mr. and Mrs. Under-the-influence-of-mind-warping-magic, should be able to see things clearly, rather than letting the Elements heap blame on themselves. If things continue in this vein, I'm going to be pretty annoyed.
As far as Jason goes, let's be clear here. He is a murderer. Yes, what happened to him was terrible, and so he's very sympathetic. But his killing Discord was not justified, and we shouldn't pretend it is. Whatever happened in the past, he's chosen to be a killer. Whatever pretensions to some sort of justice he had are gone, along with whatever claim to the moral high ground he may have had.
7793802 Not justified!? Okay, I have to weigh in on this one, because Discord tortured (yes, TORTURED) Jason for three years as a joke. Was it totally necessary to kill him? Of course not! But was Jason totally wrong for doing it? I personally don't believe so. I'm not saying it was necessarily right, but to say it was totally unjustified and absolutely in the wrong is grossly oversimplifying it, as is saying that it's either all the ponies' fault or all his fault. In the end, Discord was the one who saw all the pieces and kept things going anyway because he was having too much "fun." I'm saying nobody is totally in the right here, and that's all there is to it.
7793809 That's not how justification works. Did Jason have a legit greivance? Of course. Does that excuse his killing Discord? No.
Killing Discord for his own satisfaction was not justified. Revenge for its own sake is never justified.
7793816 well we're going to have to disagree on that one. I'm not saying it was totally justified, but I do think it was totally understandable.
7793856 Understandable, yes. But I'm not sure you're clear on the definition of justified. To put it simply, justice is not revenge, and what Jason did was for vengeance.
7793802 Finally someone gets it!!!
7793873 You can say that everything Jason did was out of vengeance. For Jason to get Justice, it would go as followed.
The elements and discord would go on trial for the deeds. Discord gets a hefty prison sentence. What he did, even if he tried to do better afterward, was pure sadism. You don't torture someone all in the name of a joke for that long and get a slap on the wrist. And it irked me to no end that the ponies was gonna give him a pass for that.
Each of the element should be punished according to the severity of their crimes. For Fluttershy, Rarity, and Pinkie, they should get hard labor in community service for negligence. For Rainbow and Applejack, who caused physical and permanent damage, they too should get a hefty prison term. For Twilight, who is a political figure, she should be forced to pay a fine in reparations and stripped of her crown. This would also mean that Celestia and Luna should be fined for negligence as well. All of their reputation would plummet and no one should trust them again!
Of course, it is hard to tell if they would have gone along with it considering that the only way to do this would be to comfort them while they were still under that spell but I digress. Jason could have gone to the Empire and pleaded his case with Cadence and Shining Armor. This would be how justice would be served.
7794389 Actually, no.
For Discord, yes, either prison/house arrest, or a few centuries of community service. At a stretch, he might be able to plead insanity, since at the time he might not have recognized that what he did was wrong, but realistically he'd be locked up. Also, the fact they forgave him doesn't mean they pardoned him, so he likely would have still been punished.
For the rest, though, only Rainbow Dash and Applejack could realistically be charged (assault). Twilight, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Fluttershy didn't do anything. He was never legally their responsibility (or if he was, they were never informed), so they weren't accountable for his welfare.
But it's a moot point, because thanks to Discord none of them were culpable. If his influence led them to do something they otherwise wouldn't have done, then they shouldn't be held responsible. The only way they would be culpable is if Discord's magic wasn't influencing their decisions. Except if that were the case, then Discord would basically be off the hook.
7793809
I already responded to the first part earlier, but I didn't have time to address the second.
To be clear, if the Mane 6 would have acted the same towards Jason even without Discord's influence, then Discord is not culpable for their actions. If his magic had no effect, then it was a non-factor.
If the Mane 6 would not have done the same without Discord, then they were acting under duress, and Discord would be responsible.
You can't say both sides bear responsibility when they are mutually exclusive. It's all or nothing.
7794565 Oh yeah that is true but I still feel that Twilight should have her privileges revoke for some time since her actions are unbecoming of a ruler.
7794639 Eh...maybe. While her actions might have been the catalyst for some of what followed, by themselves they were almost inconsequential.
7794601 and if they were more of a catalyst for what was already there? It's not so black and white.
7794760 If I'm understanding you correctly, then that's a distinction without a difference. It doesn't actually alter the dynamic.
What you seem to imply is that they had the potential within them to act that way, but their better natures usually kept that impulse in check. And that Discord simply upset their internal balance enough for those impulses to control them.
That doesn't change things. Whether he influenced them a lot or a little, he still influenced them enough to get the job done. They were still acting under duress.
7794823 but those urges were still there, and we'll never really know how each of the ponies would have reacted were it not for Discord. Maybe things would have been different, maybe not, that is the point, it's gray, it's up in the air.
7795359 Except we do know how each of these ponies would react. We're talking post-season-3, when we know all about how these characters work. Even Discord knew they wouldn't act so out-of-character on their own; that's why he magicked them in the first place.
You yourself previously pointed out in your Author's Notes how necessary Discord's involvement was for this scenario to function in the world of the show.
7795436 to make it believable in this world, in my opinion. C'mon, would anything even REMOTELY like this ever happen in the world of the show? Of course not, it's a fanfic for pete's sake! This world may be closer to the Equestria of the show, but you'd have to bring George RR Martin and Stephen King onto the writer's staff for something like this to conceivably happen!
Glad to see a new chapter of this glorious fic.
