The plot... hardens
4076124 So many Dark Knight quotes I want to use. But I'll refrain.
So is the whole 'herd' concept just an excuse to ship Eric with 3 ponies at the same time?
This immediately popped into my mind:
4076352 Honesty, no. My original concept when I first began fleshing out ideas for the story was for him to not get romantically involved with any of the ponies, but for those feelings to possibly be there in some degree. Yet as I actually started to begin writing and let the story lead me where it wanted to go, it kind of just happened.
The whole herd and monogamy ideas for relationships had always been in the story idea from the beginning as a way to show a change in Equestrian society. Like how in ancient times when the races were brought to the new world of Equus from Earth there were many dangers still present and the dwindled populations of ponies had to stick together to protect themselves and their young in social groups called herds. Over the centuries this early herd concept evolved into the ideas of "informal" and "formal" herds. In the informal herds members could come together under either a unifying purpose or to met a goal but it would not be a permanent situation. Unlike the "formal" herds which were mostly formed for the purposes of love and raising families.
This was shortly after the creation of the nation of Equestria when the hardships of the Long Winter and wars between not only the different pony tribes but also their neighbors. These hardships meant that many stallions, who before this, were the main defenders of the pony tribes. Match this with a naturally lower birth rate of colts as opposed to fillies meant that mares soon filled in the void of power left by the lack of stallions.
Yet in recent times, in the story's universe, the ratio between the sexes has pretty much leveled out and many ponies don't see the need for herds anymore. Which was the reason for the rapid rise in popularity of monogamous relationships like we see in the show and the decline of at least the "formal" herds. Leaving only more traditional families and royalty being the main practitioners anymore.
Sorry if I went into a lecture on "The History of Herds in the IACC Universe", was just kind of on a role.
4076501 Aaaand now it's stuck in my head.
I'm glad this chapter is up. Poor etpinego being constantly flustered in this chapter and Eric cant seem to keep the mares of of him. I wonder who the mysterious new alicorn is? Anyway, you have to get Eric get laid, even if its offscreen, you're pretty much torturing the guy now with the abstinence. Great work and I hope the next chapter is up soon.
Every time i read the title to this story weasels voice pops in to my head and continues for at least two chapters.
4076631 Sorry. I had to comment on that. I just finished the chapter, and I have a question. Why didn't he have Rarity make a replica of his dress uniform? That would be more appropriate.
Also, I think I know who that alicorn is, and I'm just waiting for the shit to hit the fan.
4076701 Yeah as headstrong and confident a character as Etpinego is, she just doesn't seem like somepony who has had a lot of experience in the dating scene. As much fun as it would be to get Eric laid, I don't want to rush this new relationship that he's in too much. Not that we haven't seen the princesses more than willing to help with that, having been influenced by the bond and also being denied themselves for as long as they have.
We'll just have to wait and see who this new mysterious alicorn is. Maybe it'll actually be a surprise when it's actually revealed.
Next chapter will be up sometime today. Would have been up sooner, but in the process of flying home from this deployment and spending some much needed time with my family I have not been able to post it yet. Apologies all around and promise it will be up by the end of the day.
4077205 Funny enough that's where it comes from. It's kind of one of the many phrases us maintainers (especially us crew chiefs ) use to poke fun at the veiwpoint that we're nothing more than a bunch of brainless knuckledraggers that fix things with hammers. It's all lies of course, I swear.
4078104 Quite OK, it's one of my favorite movies.
The reason why I didn't place him in a pair of mess dress blues, was more of a personal decision based on his premise for being at the ball. Whenever we military members place on a uniform we are representing ourselves as the voice and image of our country and branch of service to the public. Which would be fine and dandy for Eric to wear to this ball if he was part of a group of humans, like in a diplomatic delegation or such. But being as he is the only human on the planet he is pretty much the default representative for all of humanity, not just the US or the Air Force. Now if he was attending something like a military ball or something similar, then it would be more appropriate for him to be seen in a uniform.
So that was the reason why he is wearing a tux instead of a military uniform. It may have been okay for him to wear it, but from my personal experience and viewpoint on the proper wearing of the uniform it didn't seem right for him to wear one. I think Eric even said something about this back when he was in Vivmay's shop.
We'll see if your right on the alicorn, but don't be surprised if that isn't revieled for a little bit.
4086269 Thanks for the explination. Now that I know how it works, it makes sense. I have to ask, are you a crew chief?
4086223 mechanics and janitors are the glue that keep society going.
4086818 Not a problem, and yes I am a crew chief. Been an RC-135 crew chief for the past 10 years.
4087512 Thank you for your service. Once, when I said that, someone said "No thanks necessary. I volunteered!" How exactly do you reply to that?
4087593 Not sure on that one. For me I'm grateful when people thank me for my service, but also a little confused on why. We do what we do because we wanted to, not because we were obligated to or forced to. I always knew when I was younger I wanted to serve in the military so for me doing what I do is a dreamjob, and something I want to do. Even on the days that I want to pull my hair out at the stupidity of some things, but that's just life.
So from at least this airman, thank you for supporting us.
4087750 I thank them because they didn't have to serve. They enlisted of their own free will. I'd sign up in a heartbeat. I regularly donate to places that make care-packages to send to our troops.
4087781 And I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your support. It's the little things like that that remind us of why we wanted to join in the first place.
4087818 No problem! I spend half of my own money every month, after expenses, to buy things to donate (It comes out to around $30). Like I said, I'd join as a Machinist's Mate or a mechanic in a heartbeat, but I'm unable because of my Aspergers Syndrome (It's a mild form of Autism).
Never fails. Those eyes get me every time
"You mean with a thin layer of velvety fur to prevent chaffing? Well, alright then, hit me with the fur growing spell... not sure how you figured out how to get around my magic negation though."
4087750 so you could say that you Aimed High?
I'm hoping to get into the AFA if not my secondary choice is AFROTC. I know I'm going into the military so why not try to go for Officer right off the bat.
