The story will not be an exact spiritual successor to the others involving Moss. The story will go in a somewhat different direction and will likely have an effect similar to the Star Wars prequel trilogy had compared to the original. It was Star Wars, but "not the same" Star Wars.
For new readers: This is the 4th in a series that originally had 3 main installments planned with lots of details I won't be covering. It's a DnD 5e crossover with a four way multiclass and all the convoluted mechanics involved that can't be fully summarized to get you going. A spirit-turned-owl he first hated grew to be his best friend over the years as he spent his time stuck on Equis. The owl was always straightforward with him when he asked something. The day after that fateful Nightmare Night, Pearl is called to meet with Princess Twilight. After nearly killing Kohaku and the others, Pearl is expecting to be disowned by Twilight and being her Personal Student. Or worse.

But while Twilight is understandably upset about what happened, that is not the only reason she has called Pearl to meet her.

Someone wants to meet Pearl in person. Someone who has taken a very keen interest in the filly and her love of dragons. One that shocks both her and Twilight. Tiamat herself.

Equestria is Divided, cities and towns compete and vie with each other, sometimes violently. Although Princess Celestia nominally rules the entire nation, in truth the land is splintered by factional and religious conflicts and each city largely fends for itself. Dark powers stir and strange monsters bite and peck at the fringes. This uncertain time lends to many adventurous Ponies making names for themselves, and the fate of the nation is unclear.

But not all is dark in these fraught times. Not all ancient powers are those at work for evil. Three unlikely friends are gifted such powers by a strange spirit, and are called upon by Princess Celestia herself to protect the world from the foul forces that plague it.

-Eclipse Corona, youngest son of an old noble unicorn family that once considered itself Luna’s heralds.
-Red Haze, a wandering unicorn traveling alone, seeking answers to a terrible vision of fire and death.
-Tiny Hooves, A friendly Pony seeking justice, and one with a significant secret… He’s no pony at all.

Along their path they are joined by others, not as powerful but no less heroic.
-Ormr, A yak prodigy sent by the tribe’s ancestors to prevent a foul future.

The Prime Material plane of Phyrenia is one that has known much strife. Between being a dimensional powder keg due to a reckless empire of Magi, being swarmed with monsters and new species from across the multiverse both friend and foe, and being a mess of unsettled lands, ruins, and scattered feudal kingdoms, it has been hard for them to take a breather. Due to the interference of humans from Earth, things in Equestria and beyond are different from what was prophesied by the oracles of harmony. The shadows are darker, the dangers more deadly, and the battles more bloody.

Not everything is as it seems when numerous forces fight to control events, each with their own methods, pawns, and objectives. Nevertheless, agents of harmony seek to preserve the bright and prosperous destiny of Equestria and its inhabitants.
