Shouldn't Twilight be happy, anyway? Yet when she opens the present, it just might be the most heartbreaking thing she has ever recieved.

Diamond Tiara lives a happy, peaceful teenage life away from her mother's influence--and, more importantly, with the mare she loves. Still, as she coaches Apple Bloom on Saddlespeare and remembers pieces of her past, she can't help but wonder if the saying is true--and if her so-called "love" is really something darker.

Octavia has seen the theater before, but never dared entered it. But from what the voices have told her, this was the source. This is where she must go to put an end to her torment. Ponies have called her crazy, but they haven't seen or heard what Octavia has. If she wants to end all her misfortunes, she must go to the source, and play the perfect song, a candle lit at all times at her side. Then her torment will be over and she can return to living her happy life.

Scootaloo watches Rainbow Dash from below. Her mind is overflowing with thoughts of being as weightless as a feather. She wants to soar through the sky, beneath the vast twinkling stars, as she had seen her friend do multiple times before. But all of her attempts become tragic fails. That is, until she finds a new way to fly.

Diamond Tiara has always loved Apple Bloom. However, she has never quite felt like she was worthy of having her feelings returned by the farm pony. And so, knowing not how to express herself, she pushed her away through bullying. Hay, she thought to herself, maybe it would make her unrequited love easier to handle. As time goes on, however, she discovers that couldn't be further from the truth.

Dear Diary,
Looking back, a scientific, step-by-step plan is completely ineffective for social situations (Note to self: don't do them, ever). Inviting Princess Luna to a Pinkie Pie Hearth's Warming party, with a checklist of steps in your head, was an awful idea. There are too many variables that a checklist cannot prepare for, such as an entrancing outfit. The plan resulted in a spectacular failure of when awkward meets anxious.
For future use, a spreadsheet might be better.
