On a dark night filled with even darker magics, an insane cult attempts to give Nightmare Moon a body and life of her own, utterly separate from Princess Luna. But, when the spell is interrupted by Celestia, something unexpected is created.

Now, a little black alicorn filly named Nyx finds herself living under the care of Twilight Sparkle, only to be haunted by memories and emotions from her past. Is she Nightmare Moon reborn or is she simply a doppelganger with a soul and mind of her own? Can Twilight Sparkle protect Nyx from those who refuse to see past her dragon eyes and black coat?

Or, will Nyx be forced to inherit the sins that may not even be hers and become the greatest evil Equestria has ever known?

Shadow Play:
The world is full of things that will confuse, frighten, sadden, or mystify those who look at them. Curiosity causes us to look at those odd things of a darker nature.

Shadow Play is a series of short stories that are based around dark, sad, "mind-bending", thrilling, etc. themes and tones.

For it is not what we desire that makes us curious, but it is what we fear that makes us want.

They have lived longer than any creature, and will see the death of all. They are the Endless, they who are concept personified.
Destiny, the eldest
Death, laughing all the while
Dream, ever-brooding
Desire, wanting all
Despair, dragging her hooks into the hearts of all creatures
Destruction, long absent from his duty
Delirium, she who was Delight, cracked, and perhaps healing

We had never meant for it to happen. It was all just for fun, maybe a few laughs. It was just a game after all... just a game...

A Cutie Mark is meant to represent the personality and special talent of each pony that has one. Cheerilee's flowers symbolize her desire to help her students bloom, and the smiles represent the cheer that she hopes to bring to their lives.

At least...that's what she tells everypony who asks.
