The rest of you are cool. In fact, you look great today. Sorry you need to see this but as someone with no bigger megaphone than his own tiny slice of the internet I feel the need to express in no uncertain terms that yes, sometimes one's political views do make one an active piece of shit, and that really the fuck applies here.
May the nation of Ukraine defend itself successfully against Putin's fascist machine.

There was an active bombardment of military instillations, by both land-based and plane borne missiles and artillery, followed by tanks and troops crossing the borders. Currently, as per a couple news outlits and friends in Ukraine itself, they've repelled the Russians from a couple boarder cities, but as a few hours ago Chernobyl and Prypiate were under Russian control with the National Guard of Ukraine having bogged them down in the marsh lands surrounding the exclusion zone.
Also, civilian targets were hit as well, with the International Airport in Kiev having been bombed by long range and plane borne missiles, and I think also power and water infrastructure was hit as well, as we've had videos of low-flying MIGs preforming missile strikes in neighborhoods to hit power transmission stations.
While all of this is going on, Russian Civilians are protesting the war, and multiple current and former members of the Russian Goverment are coming out to say that this attack came out of nowhere for them. Putin has, also, declared dissent against the war in Ukraine to be Treason, so I worry for all the people in Russia protesting.

No, you're right. He'll doubtlessly do a lot of horrible things to even his own people to keep what he seems to view as "restoring Russia to it's historic glory".
This also includes the fact that we have, as of like a few hours ago, basically destroyed all trade in and out of Russia and frozen every foreign asset Russian banks and Corporations own outside of Russia. The common people in Russia are going to suffer badly in the coming weeks and months, and their military is doubtlessly going to take staggering losses trying to slog through a nation that doesn't just hate them for this invasion, but opened their military armories to any and all civilians willing to pick up a rifle and fight.
Meanwhile, thousands of civilians are fleeting over the Carpathian mountains, sometimes even by foot, to get to the Polish border and safety in NATO controlled nations.

Something like that, unfortunately as I am to understand the majority of Russia's political structure is really scared of him and won't do anything to oppose the war outside of talking about how it's unjust and isn't what Russia needs right now.
Also, it seems that an entire scout regiment of Russians surrendered to Ukraine because they were told they were scouting and refused to follow the order to go to war against essentially their families in Ukraine.

People wonder how Nevil Chamberlin and the other Allied leaders allowed Hitler to get so deep into Europe so quickly.

Even if Ukraine rolled over, thousands if not millions would still die when Putin put his boot to their neck, and reminded them their past cries of freedom and decisions to be independent and not bow to his whims have consequences.
And while tragic, and while lives will be lost in a war that categorically did not need to happen, Putin like all bullies will only stop when someone stands up and says "No more."
I took Thursday off to study for an exam.
My plan was to stay up a little later and sleep in a tad, then get back to studying before the exam itself.
Then I ended up watching the entire UN security Council meeting and then watching the invasion play out in real time on three different new services. I only made it to bed sometime after 4am.
In that time and today I've mixed studying and keeping abreast of the conflict.
I am a child of the Cold War, and I was truly hoping never to have to return to Iron Curtain conditions in my lifetime.
That neo-stalinesque midget decided otherwise.
My heart goes out to Ukraine, and I'll support them however I can.
And I have no more tolerance for Putin's supporters - not that I had much to begin with.

I'm old enough to remember the Soviet Union and how they did things. Ruskies are very good at closing there eyes and ramming there heads into a brick wall. Because they know any outrage will fade with time. It's still Putins mindset. And the sad part is? It works. Are you still outraged at the botched pull out of Afghanistan?
