Don't PM me asking when a story is going to update.

Don't leave comments on any of my stories asking when the story is going to update.

Don't post "witty and clever" comments on any of my stories declaring that story "dead" for not having updated in several months.

Don't e-mail me asking me when a story is going to update.

Don't ask me about story updates via Twitter.

Don't send up smoke signals asking when a story is going to update.

Basically, if you have conceived of any physically or mentally possible way of asking me when a story of mine is going to update? Don't.

It annoys me, and I will verbally abuse you in wholly disproportionate measure.

I update shit when I feel like updating it. No sooner. My loyal and faithful readers, who ACTUALLY READ MY FUCKING BLOG POSTS, understand what a SHIT year I've had, and I thank you for your patience and your NON-nagging.

EDIT: As expected, some idiots have decided to be "cute" about this and send me "funny" PMs about story updates.

Guess what? If you're one of those lucky individuals who has that INCREDIBLY little sense of self-control and propriety, congratulations, you've been blocked. You think this is a fucking joke? This is not a fucking joke.

... fucking idiots. Stories update when they update.

Yeah, that always kinda irritated me, too. And I haven't even written anything!

Write when you want to. When you don't or can't, no one has the right to demand that you put your personal life on hold.

It's easy for people to tell you to lighten up and shrug it off, and that's what I tell myself about such things, but when you (yes you, readers) are on the receiving end enough, you'll come to realize it's not that easy. I empathize with feeling targeted and pressured, but I suck at consoling people, so I just hope you feel better MythrilMoth. :pinkiesad2:

I know the feeling myself about dealing with people like that

What's worse is that they're likely aware of what's gone on with you this year.....and yet are still asking for updates. :/

Most of the ones asking just don't bother to read my blogs/don't really care.

Contrary to popular belief, writing is actually... hard.

Writing well is even harder.

Yeah, I can understand it being frustrating. Updates happen when they happen, not everyone can follow a strict schedule after all.

4907270
Give it a try, then you'll know.

I can't echo the sentiments you've put here enough. I'm particularly bad at updating old stories, especially when going through writer's block like I have been for the last good while. When I see my stories added to folders like "RIP" or "Dead Stories" or things like that, it gets frustrating. When I have people commenting with "Update pls" or things like that, I feel guilty.

I know you've gone through worse than just writer's block, though. Not trying to equate what you went through to me just having difficulty writing.

Just going to say I'm behind you here, Mythril.

I work at King Soopers (grocery store) and my main job is to bring in buggies throughout the day in all type of weather (hot sun, snow, rain, ect) and I earn $10.50 of a 38 hour shift. Yet there are writers who are paid ten times than that just typing out words. Which job sounds more tiring?

4907279
Yeah, I have a shit minimum wage job, too. But if you think you can describe writing as 'typing out words', and consider physical exertion to be a measure of a job's difficulty, you are too narrow-minded and blind to even be corrected. I suppose animating is just moving your hand and coding is just pressing numbers, eh? Nah, man, you wouldn't understand anything I or anyone else here had to say to you.

Remember, you don't owe us anything. You aren't doing this because you have to. If you want to take a break or whatever, do it. And if people complain, beg for updates... Well, fuck em. We can wait as long as we need to.

4907279
Dude? With all due respect, shut the fuck up. Have you ever spent 16 straight hours in front of a computer, with your eyeballs drying out and your concentration slipping, trying to finish writing a chapter, reworking and reworking scenes and editing 10,000 words so that you can be done with the update and post it? Only to finally, FINALLY finish it at 4am, post it, and head to bed...only to realize you're too tired to sleep, so you end up shambling around the house like a zombie until you finally zonk out at noon?

Because that's what writing is actually like.

So you can fuck right off with that "Oh it can't be that bad, sitting at a computer typing words" shit. Seriously. Roll it up and shove it.

4907296
I wouldn't let this person get to you. "Twilight is the Best" seems to do nothing but go around bugging authors to write them stories. A lot of them are... of the more fetish stuff. Mainly incest it seems. They seem to be one of THOSE people. The kind that would ask artists to draw them free art, etc.

I myself haven't updated some stories in forever, but the thing is. Writing a story here on fimfiction isn't a job. It's a hobby. Sometimes with life you don't want to come home and write a story. Sometimes you just want to come home and play a videogame or something. Sometimes it takes a while before writing can happen again.

Just the way it is sometimes.

4907296
I'm agree with you that writing is a pain long typing on computer almost all day because I am a students of programmer have some similarities to that and that is the long time commanding programming and then testing till the program till it work and have readjusting many time according to criteria requirements which is saying you must look up some command or make many trial error to just make it work are making me tiring but if real pratical work in company will kill me. So yeah, working on the physical labor than doing mentally and physically labor on computer is where less tiring than the person who use computer for far too long.

Hopefully you're given some vacation days at least. Then you can use a few of those to prove to us how easy it is. From skimming your recent blog posts, it looks like you have a bit of experience in how hard it can be in creating something from scratch.
As for most the authors here, they do this as a passion project. Kkat hasn't made a cent off of Fallout Equestria. Can you imagine? 600,000 words for nothing. Guy doesn't even have a Patreon as far as I can tell. Not anyone can just set up a fundraiser and succeed. They need to spend dozens, if not hundreds of hours of free labor to build up a portfolio. Unless they want to invest their own money in self printing, they need to send resumes, samples, and manuscripts to publishers for a chance to get accepted. From there, they're given a small advance payment, but are expected to meet strenuous deadlines. They're no longer writing for their own sake. They're writing to another's schedule.

:applejackconfused: I kinda blacked out there for a second. Sorry about my rant. It's late here. I need to sleep. G'night.

I like that there's a specific story tagged for this PSA. People giving you lots of grief about it eh? Don't let it get to you Moth, some of us can be patient.

There's a difference between being "narrow minded" and I not knowing. Like you said, I didn't know what it is like being a writer and so that's where my initial assumptions were, but now listening to the feedback of my comment, I now have a better understanding of how stressful writing can be. But didn't have to be jerks. Crescent Minor: Like I said, I didn't know how it was like and so I explained my opinion, but instead of explaining it to me, you instead just said I was to "narrow minded" that you barely explained the difference. MythrilMoth: From your comment, I now get why writing is hard for your and other author's professions, but you could at the very least been a bit nicer explaining it to me instead of telling me to "shut the fuck off" or "Roll it up and shove it". 4907310 was the only one who explained to me in a more respectful manner.
4907305
Gee, digging up someones personal online activity and using it to paint the person in a negative light is really mature. Yes, I do go around to find authors to write those particular stories (and for the record no I'm not ashamed of liking that type of fetish), but I don't just go to random people and ask them. In fact you contradicted yourself because if you actually see the stories that I "buggged" the authors to write you'll see that a majority of them are commissioned stories, AKA stories that I paid the authors to write. Your also wrong about the picture thing to since I also pay for those as well. Example is this FoE picture which I payed $30 for the artist to draw, and before you ask, that was the price set by the artist.

Sorry about sending you the smoke signals

Sorry MythrilMoth.
If you need help or support, I'm always there just in case. *cracks knuckles*

4907337
You were much less respectful than you seem to think. Swaggering in and telling a bunch of writers that their work is easy is a shitty, rude thing to do. I, nor anyone else had any reason to think you were coming in a spirit of learning, because everything you said implied otherwise. No one can assume better of you than the impression you give, and that impression is your own doing. You don't get to whine about everyone being mean to you after you pick a fight.

4907362
Well sorry but I have difficulty with social interactions so its kinda hard for me to determine what I say or write would be considered rude.

Sorry that idiots are pressing your buttons again Moth. Your real fans would never do that to you. We all know you haven’t had the best year but we hope things get better for you soon.

Not sure why anyone would want you to update more stupid and boring beanis fics, but whatever.

Well said!!

Story of my life right here.

4907368
Oh. I didn't know that. Sorry.

4907461
Its ok, while its not as bad as in other cases, it does interfere with things on a few occasions. Like one time at work, my job is to bring in buggies but when it gets super busy the head clerks send an extra employee to help or to send me to break or lunch, well this one busy day comes and when I went to take my lunch, I told the head clerk they should send someone outside while I was gone. When I came back another HC came and told me I was in trouble because apparently the way I said to the other HC sounded like I was ordering her to, wasn't until I explain that because of my autism that I didn't mean that and was just advising them to send someone to since it was busy.

4907471
Hmm. I'm not autistic, but I do struggle socially for other reasons. And I've had more or less exactly that happen; my boss has had to sit me down and talk to me about being 'rude' when I never meant to and I had no idea anyone had a problem with me. It's a pretty awful feeling.

4907337
I didn't dig anything up. I've just noticed that quite a few stories have 'requested/commissioned by Twilight is the Best' and happened to notice the content of such story. If you recall, you once contacted me to write a story, but I didn't feel confident enough to write Rainbow Dash to do such story.

I do apologize for bringing up the 'genre' of stories, but given you just walked in here and said "It doesn't seem that hard" I didn't have a very high opinion of you last night, and well it was late and I have a small idea of how MythrilMoth is feeling.

For the future, let me give some free advice. Don't assume anything. You assumed writing was easy. It's not if you want the end content to be good.

Say you made a mistake at work, and hey say you are the only one working, the store is short staffed all around, and you are crowded. Would you like it if I went up to you and said: "That job doesn't look hard! Seems EASY to me." Wouldn't that annoy you?

This blog post was about MythrilMoth reminding people he's had a bad year, and is sick of a ton of people asking when stories will update, and it was pretty clear he was upset and stressed.

Keep in mind how stressful a day at your job can be and think about what questions you wouldn't want asked or what comments you wouldn't want said to you and consider what you type/say next time.

I like the smoke signal idea. Do you take other comments in smoke form? Should we burn specific food offerings to convey our amusement? Beans for the beanis god, etc.?

You have my sympathy. Well, a little of it. Do you have a Patreon so that at least people can support your work?

4907756
Yes, unfortunately my patron base is rather small. Or, at the moment, perhaps fortunately, since I do chapter bumps as patron rewards and my months of writer's block have left me with a backlog of reward bumps to fill. Still, I do wish I could convince more people to drop just a buck in the patron pool--I only do rewards for $10 or higher, but I'm grateful for even a dollar or two if more people would chip in (look how many followers I have, think about what that kind of income would be *_*)

4907835
Well, I guess I could help for $10. I may have missed my opportunity at a "real job" because the company decided to just relocate somebody they already had, but that much is probably still within the scope of what I can afford. Regarding your writer's block, I can only wish you a swift recovery. I personally pulled out of MLP fics entirely (largely because of the awful Movie and worse Season 8) and was going to start writing DC until Disney bought them, and now I'm trying to figure out my first D&D campaign. I pray to whatever gods might be perverse enough to watch and listen that people like you and me might have our writing spirits restored. Your material generally cheers me up and I appreciate that.

Also, don't worry about "rewards". Just write when you have a story. Your fans will understand.

4907847
Sweet, swing my by userpage for the details, or just click the Patreon link in my short bio at the top of the page. :) Much obliged.

I'm slowly recovering from my writer's block, it's just a matter of time management now--I've been putting more time and energy into other hobbies. I don't regret it by any means, but I could spend more time writing than I have been.

and was going to start writing DC until Disney bought them

Umm...say what now? Disney doesn't own DC. They own Marvel. As far as I know, Warner isn't planning to sell DC ever. And even if they did, what would that matter in re: writing?
