Not even Princess Leia could survive the Year of Death... · 6:06pm Dec 27th, 2016

Four days ago, Carrie Fisher survived a heart attack and the world breathed a sigh of relief that we would not end 2016 with such a drastic and devastating loss.

Today, she died.

For everyone who grew up with Star Wars, this...this is just the absolute worst possible way to end what has been the single worst year in modern history.

Damn it all! Not only has the world lost another great thespian, but Star Wars lost one of its pillars...and now it appears that not only is Ben the last of the Solos, but Luke may be the last of the Skywalkers

Oh come on!! Take Donald Trump, not her!!!:fluttercry:

Crud. I was hoping to see her get better.

I've said ibefore and I'll say it again... GODAMNIT 2016!

Who thinks 2016 will pull off one last Hold-My-Drink moment before it itself dies? God fucking DAMMIT.

She's one with the Force now.... RIP Carrie Fisher. You will be sorely missed.

Goddamn it... Carrie Fisher, you will be missed. Fuck man this year has taken so many from us, and now its taken Leia as well...
I just can't believe it... it doesn't seem real to me but it is...

4357589 dude no.
You might not like the guy, but to wish death upon anyone who is not an downright murderer or hardcore criminal is just plain wrong.

Go in the corner and shame on you.

I never stay up until midnight on New Years, I am too tired. I will do it this time around so I can watch this year die as it took many lives.

Sheesh dude, it was just a joke. I wish that Mike Pence was taken instead.

Just about five days left. Then say about another week just to be sure.

Soon this year will be past us and we can start anew.

4357632 with todays standards of hardcore political people, it is hard to see when people truly joke or really desires death upon people they don't agree with.

4357638
Ohhhhh, I still don't get it. lol, jk. Sorry to disturb the blog with political jokes.

Damn. 2016 was an hecatomb for the artistic world.

John Oliver said it best......#Fuck2016

Dammit, I was hoping that she was going to pull through.

She's dear. Carrie Fisher is dead. I, I don't know what to say other than at least she can join the rest of Alderaan and Han in the Force now. RIP.

I was hoping she would recover, but I'm not surprised either by the news. Just saddened at the timing too, being so close to Christmas/New Year's. Not much else to say but rest in peace, and condolences to her family and friends.

I was so ready to say that this year really wasn't that bad. All that had to happen was that Carrie Fisher at least make it through the last few days.
But no!

So now, I will join in on the "2016 sucks!" bandwagon.

Fuck you, 2016. Just... fuck you to hell and back. I want you to end as soon as possible, you miserable excuse for 12 months. :twilightangry2: :applecry:

4357694 Dude, this year WAS "so bad" before she even had the heart attack. This and George Michael pushed 2016 over the line of "horrible year" into "devastatingly disastrous year".

4357632 Honestly I wouldn't have cared too much if some time during this election both Trump AND Hillary dropped dead or at least had to withdraw due to their health, then at least we could've used the unprecedented situation (never before has a candidate for president on either major political party been forced to drop out before the election due to health problems, the closest we got was back in 1824 when William Crawford had a stroke after the election that left him out of the running) to demand better candidates. Ones that don't embody our worst traits (a pathological liar and a billionare made famous solely for being a con artist and a reality t.v. star).

4357774 While it is true that a lot of bad things happened before her heart attack, the good stuff that happened this year was so good that I felt that it balanced out enough for this year to qualify as "not that bad".
This tipped the balance from "not that bad" into "horrible".

Yes, her passing is a very sad event and yet another reason to support #Fuck2016, but my question is:

How are they going to incorporate this into Episode VIII when the time comes? Are they just going to say Han's death was so much of a shock that Leia lost the will to live?
Kind of like her mother?

(come to think of it, that actually sounds like something Star Wars would do anyway.)

Meh, for me Star Wars has been dead ever since Satan AKA Walt Disney bought it and started making those crappy new films.

4357882 Exactly what good things happened this year?

4357974 The number one thing is that the Cubs won the World series.
Captain America Civil War, Zootopia, Deadpool, and Moana all came out this year.
Also, everything on this list: http://forevertrueblue.tumblr.com/post/147847214783/positive-parts-of-2016

4357992 Yeah, okay, I'll grant those happened. It's just that none of it really outweighs the bad...

I can not express into words how sad I am at her death. She will be greatly missed. :fluttercry:

4357774 As Madonna said the other day, can 2016 fuck off NOW?

4357593 Well, over here on these parts we have a man in his 90s just waiting to die. He's kind of a big deal here.

When I was first told this by my grandmother this morning, I didn't believe her. Only when I heard an announcement on the radio later in the day, did I find out the truth.

I can't wait for this year to end.

4358011 The way I see it, the combined quality of all of those things, both in the list and the other things I mentioned is enough to match the quantity of the bad that happened this year prior to this event.

ye heard about this; real sad but that's life....2016 has been full of it :fluttercry: we're still alive aren't we? so don't get worked up over it

Historically, this isn't the worst year of the modern era. We've had many of our heroes die, the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East has reached a bursting point, and many of us had personal events that deeply affected us, but the world is still generally at peace and we still have roofs over our heads.

The worst year in modern history will be 2017, when Trump bends over and allows the GOP and Putin to systematically dismantle the great American nation, its liberties, and its role as leader of the free world, all because he wanted an ego boost. And unless we all do our absolute best and work hard to uphold our heroes' ideals, we'll look back upon 2016 as the last good year we all had.

I've been in a daze ever since I heard the news this morning. Whenever you hear the words "ventilator" or "stopped eating and drinking" associated with anyone's health, it's a very bad sign.

Though she'll always be associated with Star Wars, I hope people will also remember Carrie Fisher's other roles, her work behind the scenes writing and fixing other peoples' scripts, and her advocacy for improved mental health.

Damn, and on the edge of the franchise's 40th too.

You know what they say about celebrities: they go in threes.

4358907 No. I used Moth's "worst year in history" line and the reactions to it to make a political statement.

I hate to break it to you, but you're four days late to the hater party. The Janitor is already cleaning up, so find another party to crash

4357632 Here's to that; Pence sucks.

4363120 You're being a dick. Might wanna not do that.

4363234
Ya, I could tell. Sorry man.
