It was a great and fun Pinkie episode

Haven't seen it yourself, Knighty? I got you covered!

Shit... today is Saturday...
Been so focused getting ready for my trip, I forgot my daily dose of Pony :facehoof:

DrakeyC #6 · Jun 27th, 2015 · · 20 ·

one of the worst episodes of the season.

(For future reference I am talking about season 5 episodes Princess Spike and Party Pooped.)

These last two episodes were just, sheesh! The endings are fine, but the the whole crisis and setup are so transparently easy to solve and we have to suspend disbelief way beyond the bounds of even slapstick. These two shows were both written by first time writers Jayson Thiessen & Jim Miller. The former directed the Season Four episode Pinkie Pride and should perhaps have stuck to producing!

AS IF: Yak royalty would be stupid enough to go on a rampage when visiting another country (Xenophobia)

AS IF: Twilight and the mane six would stand idly by as they destroyed the interior of the castle, Applejack's barn, the Carousel Boutique, Sugarcube Corners... Neither AJ nor Rarity are wilting wall flowers. How come they all-of-a-sudden are as meek as Fluttershy on a bad hair day!

AS IF: Twilight would be dumb enough to continue providing the Yaks new venues to trash after seeing their earlier behavior!

AS IF!!!!

Maybe I'm just tired of seeing Spike and the viewers' intelligence abused. :facehoof:

Season 5 started so well! I just hope these two episodes have managed to compress enough stupid so that the remaining episodes can be more like the earlier part of the season.

3187636 Because the episode sucked.

3187643 wasn't funny when they did it, isn't funny when you do it.

By the way, anyone else notice the Beatles made an appearance?

By far the best moment of the entire episode. :pinkiehappy: Too bad we had to put up with the rest of it.:facehoof:

All we're saying is. . . give ponies a chance!

So looking at the comments, this is a polarizing episode dependent on people's senses of humor. I am polarized on the 'I like it!' side.

You know why Equestria was seeking an alliance with Yakyakistan?

derpicdn.net/img/2015/6/27/924954/large.png

We liked this episode. It introduced a new species. Got to go to somewhere new beyond the Crystal Empire. And Pinkie got to do a solo quest.

The one thing we didn't like was the ponies being door mats for the yaks. Would have been cool to see Fluttershy bring out some of that old Iron Will assertiveness training. Oh well, MLP is still the best show on Earth.

I want to say that Twilight needs to work on her diplomacy, but considering what she had to contend with, I'll give her a pass. I mean, sheesh. Those yaks make Iron Will look downright timid. :twilightoops:

I feel like the twenty-two minute time limit was a real hinderance this time around. By all means, this episode should've been amazing! Nice world-building, solid setup, tight humor, an excellent excellent inner conflict for Pinkie Pie, and a decent moral. The problem is there was too much to show and not a lot of time to show it. When Pinkie had her epiphany at the end, I felt like it came out of nowhere. Why? Because we didn't get to see her adventure. She had to tell us about it, which as we all know is a big storytelling no-no. :duck:

But really, what could the writers have done differently? True, a few jokes were superfluous (the Beatles reference was cute, but it really detracted from the moral), and I got the feeling that they were focusing more on the comedy than the story. But even if we cut out all of the fluff, there still wouldn't have been enough time to show Pinkie's journey. So really, this was the best they could do given their limited resources.

Well, maybe not the best. Again, they seemed too focused on the comedy this time around, and that made for a few unnecessary gags (we didn't need to hear about Granny's dentures or Twilight's strange phobias. TMI, guys. TMI. :ajbemused: ). Regardless, I still give this one an A- for effort. Not as good as it could've been, but highly entertaining nonetheless.

Well, despite the people who aren't pleased with anything this show does, I found this to be my favorite Pinkie episode in the entire series thus far. Usually, I don't care for Pinkie. I just don't really like people like that, so I can't help but not really liking her. However, during S4 she had a really great episode, but I attribute that to Weird Al more than to her.
This time, all on her own, she managed to have an episode that kept me laughing from beginning to end. I liked it, and aside from one hiccup last episode,(which frankly was one of Spike's best as well), it was great. The only thing disappointing about it was the lack of war being declared.
As a serious episode, it probably does fall short, but sometimes you've just gotta have a sense of humor.
Also, Twilight having a quesadilla phobia is confirmed. Make a fic about it, someone.

3187640 I'd like to attempt and dispute your claims because arguing is fun! So, here we go!

1.It happens in real life. Have you seen the U.S. lately? *Ba-dum kind-of-rude-joke-but-still-kinda-true*

2.Again, it happens in real life. Have you seen the U.S. lately? Aside from another stupid joke, these guys were willing to start a war over practically nothing, so I would probably sit idly by and let them do what they like as well. Princess Celestia also ordered them to create a treaty. To do so, they would kind of have to deal with anything to get that.

3.She had to stall them while Pinkie went on her adventure. If they were already so violent, not being waited on would probably make it worse.

I'm not saying you have to like the episode or anything, I merely wish to point out that there's some logic to it.

Probably there was no serious threat at all. Probably the yaks aren't all like that and those three always get sent away on trips so they aren't at home and trashing things.

The comedy on the pony side of things was great and it really felt like a Pinkie episode with just how freaking random and out there a lot of stuff was, but the basic premise behind it and the actions of the new species...just makes me want to Yak.

Sorry, couldn't resist :twilightblush:

But seriously. Would have been a way better episode if after the Yaks declare war on Equestria, Twilight finally just snaps at the A-holes and basically goes...

:twilightangry2:: Give me a break! Since the moment you jackasses (with apologies to the newlyweds) got here, we ponies have been bending over backwards to make you feel comfortable and at home, just to have you constantly insult us and take a dump on our hard work! You want a war? FINE! Bring it on, BECAUSE SOME THINGS JUST AREN'T WORTH MAKING FRIENDS WITH.

Then start the next episode with Twilight reading a Yakkastan Conquered! article in the paper, and Rarity commenting on all the new clothes she can make from Yak hair.

Also, would it have been so bad to give Spike a moment of triumph with the amazing piano playing? They could have made that sincere, but the yaks blowing their top about something else very minor in the next second that was completely unrelated to the music itself.

3187743
*proceeds to burn a s:yay:tload of records*

We know Twilight's weakness now.

Someone mass produce weapons that shoot out Quesadillas.

derpicdn.net/img/2015/6/27/925021/medium.png

A little disjointed, but still pretty funny. Also, dem crazy faces. Especially when Pinkie was starting to freak out.:pinkiecrazy:

I personally really liked this episode.

I thought the Yaks were cool and I like that Pinkie Pie has a Bat Cave but um with party supplies.

I have to say that I can kind of see where the yaks are coming from.

Imagine if you went to another country and people kept trying to make you feel at home like in your own country. Wouldn't that be kind of insulting? Especially if they kept getting everything wrong? It might come off as being insensitive on their part or even judgmental.

It would be like is as an American I went to England, and all they did was make me cheeseburgers to eat and treat me like a country hick. Well, I wouldn't be too happy about that. You see what I mean?

But I can see how some people might have taken the episode a different way, based on their humor preferences.

There's a lot of yakking about a yak episode.

Makes sense.

well it was better then last weeks.

Let the quesadillas flow.

Why do I suddenly wanna punch a Yak? :twilightangry2:

it was a Pinkie pie episode that much is clear but my biggest complaint is the title.. Seriously? They couldn't do better than that? As for the yaks being the way they were and anyone thinking they were being jerks and yes I admit they were but have any of you even seen/met a real Yak?.. They are a simi-wild cattle that is much like the first cow that man tamed that is known for it's temper , stubborn issues and odd smell. . I found them to be very much like real Yak and the cheese their milk is made from is considered to be the real mozzarella by some cheese experts.. The kind we eat in the U.S. comes from regular dairy cows.. The only thing I didn't like was they seem all too eager to fight without considering the fact that they were the visitors there and where did the Yak smash come from?.! LOL,,,:moustache:

Another Pinkie Pie episode
And Twilight once again is freaking out

And..."Yakyakistan"

Why

What's wrong with a simple "Yakistan"

The "THIS NOT YAK X/Y" got old really quickly too
Let's make it a meme

Also, Pinkie's crazy laugh
Needs more Cheese Sandwich

And once again, we see Pinkie trying to do too much by herself for...uh...the...third time?
I swear, these ponies have five minute attention spans

Overall, mediocre episode

Twilight hates mexicolt food?
NOOOOOOOOO, MY TWILIGHT/SONATA FANFIC IS RUINED

8/10. Probably my favorite regular episode of the season so far. The humor was enjoyable, as was the plot. The focus on nervous Pinkie and Twilight gave me flashes of S1 and 2. I also liked the Yaks--despite their relatively singular personalities. Celestia continues to spiral down, though. What was she thinking? No cultural training. No diplomats. No nothing. It's like she secretly wanted Twilight to fail and start a war.

Griffon warfics get crushed and not a month later there's a canon species predisposed to war that's introduced. Warfics will rise from the ashes to once again grace us with logistical nightmares, Klingon griffons yaks, and horrible diplomacy--the later being confirmed for canon.

3187778 because we had to spend half the episode watching them act like yakasses?

Seeing everyone else liking this episode, I have a sincere question - why?

The yaks were complete assholes, the cast were doormats, and the second half was a disjointed mess with Pinkie traveling across across Equestria and back again in the span of an afternoon, ultimately accomplishing nothing but padding the episode, including a really pointless and out-of-nowhere cameo.

I'm not a hater by any measure, but this episode was just so... ugh. Why are people liking it? It must be the yaks, their comedy must have worked for other folks and not me.

3187833 I literally went into Hunting Unlimited, made up a map with thirty Buffalo (closest thing to a Yak in the game) and KILLED THEM ALL! :pinkiecrazy:

What's this, Knighty? You posted an image without a link attached to it? Who are you, and what have you done with Knighty!?

3187643
Yakahu yakbar!

I'm sorry I couldn't resist.

3187860
No, no-- that was perfect!

*waits for story under the title "Yakahu Yakbar!"*

The Yak (from what I've gathered) seem to behave liked stereotypical Vikings, though a little less violent,

They were about to declare war for example over Equestria not feeling like their homeland. And they seem to like to smash things if they are angry.

Not only that it's mentioned that the Yak are warriors.

3187765 Well they tried, they just failed at it. Doesn't really help how out of the way they are from them.

However you have to admit the whole war thing was a little over the top.

3187872 They do come from a warrior nation though, so it is in character for them.

They felt offended as a culture, and the Prince is a little hot headed, so it led to a rash decision on his part. Yeah, it was a little extreme. But some credit has to be given to the prince for being willing to give the party a try instead of just going home and starting war.
