Twilight floated a second fritter up to her mouth when she realized the first was gone. “What is in these things?” “Mostly love. Love ‘n about three sticks of butter.”

Blast from the Past: Now 100% Less Likely to Get Me In Trouble

Hey, some of you guys remember that thing I did a long time ago, where I wrote up 50 questions about headcanon and suggested people answer them on their blogs, and then, like, everyone on the site wanted to do it, and then the site mods sent me nice but stern messages suggesting I cut that shit out because it was spamming people's feeds?

Yes, I am working on sequel to A Guide to Magic · 3:54am May 2nd, 2015

(First first, if you're reading this and you don't follow me it's because you faved A Guide to Magic. Thanks!)

First, welcome to new people following me! I'm bookplayer, I blog a lot about shipping, Applejack, writing, and my daughter Trixie (aka human-baby-Trixie.) I hope you will find it interesting, or at least not boring enough to stop following me. Oh yeah, and all the cool kids know I'm female. Now you're a cool kid.

Second... what it says in the title. I was going to say more in this post, but so many folks have been asking about a sequel that I felt like I should get the word out there. The story stopped where it did because that was the story I was telling for the writeoff, but there is another story in the works of Apple Bloom and Spike's first year in Canterlot. It will be tagged romance and slowly evolve into some SpikeBloom young romance shipping, so fair warning on that.

I've been on paint color finders all day, because (protip!) paint color names are an awesome place to find lots of OC pony names. (Morning Sunshine, Silver Crest, Emberglow, Spiceberry...)

Third, thank you to everyone who has faved and/or commented on and/or enjoyed A Guide to Magic! And if you're one of my followers who hasn't read it, well, people see to like it...

Finally, I may or may not make blog post about Spike's role in the story later this weekend. We'll see how things go.

PS: If you liked A Guide to Magic, and you're interested in other stories by me, some good places to start might be:
The Importance of Being Earth Ponies (Apple Bloom learns about one version of earth pony magic)
Three Little Apples (An alternate take on the Apple family)
The Homesteading (TwiJack shipping with earth pony magic and a strong supporting role from Spike)
In the Service of the Princess of Friendship (Applejack explains a tough decision of her own about her future)
My chapter in The Album, Missing the Tree for the Apples (A different take on Apple Bloom's future potential)

I actually still need to read that... along with several other fics of yours >.>

3035976
I never push people too hard to read my fics. You should still read them, I just won't bother you about it. :ajsmug:

3035978 I fully intend to do so :derpytongue2:

Next you'll tell me that I should write TwiJack but that you won't push me to write it :V

3035985
Well, yes, but to be fair I feel that way about every writer on this site.

3035988 This is true. Though, you weren't as big a fan of my idea for TwiJack. Might have to rejig that one :twilightblush:

3035990
It was a fine idea, it just needed a little smoothing out, and I thought your AppleDash was a little more unique.

3035997 Yeah, I gotta admit it trended a bit too far to the silly side. But, hey, part of outlining is finding what works and doesn't. Took me ages to get that AppleDash idea where it is.

Writing it, on the other hand >.>

3035978

I never push people too hard to read my fics

Liar. You're a bully. :raritydespair:

3035976 This. I really just need to read more overall :rainbowlaugh:

Looking forward to the sequel!

BTW... I just painted a room Mango Tango! :rainbowlaugh:

3035978 I'll take care of it for you, BP.

3035976 What the fuck, scrub!? Get on that!

Shit, that was the whole story? I thought for sure there would be more of it, I didn't notice the Complete tag until now.

It will be tagged romance and slowly evolve into some SpikeBloom young romance shipping, so fair warning on that.

:trixieshiftleft:
I am okay with this... :derpyderp2:
3036080
No, it's "Git gud."

GAWD.
:derpytongue2:

3036166 Don't tell me, I'll tell you! Can you believe that happy crappy!?

Saw that SpikeBloom coming like a *insert obvious thing here*.
Please some more.

Nail polish also works well for finding pony names. Ocean Sparkle, Desert Night, Crystal Avalanche...

Looking forward to the sequel. It sounds like it's going to be cute, and I hope you throw in more high-level magic-science.

So a sequel is in the works? Yay!

If it's going to slowly evolve into SpikeBloom, does that mean it'll have a bit more length to it?

Paint colors, of course! My days of struggling over pony names might be over.

I make OC names based on clever puns, or what what I want that Pony to do / defining trait. Or Ponifying famous peeps by using the definition of their names / Punning Syllables in their names ... although not a lot of people get the former most of the time. Still fun.

I look forward to your SpikeBloom fic. Btw. Where is Apple Polish in the school? And why didn't AJ let AB know that there's an Apple in the school?

The romance sounds like an instant boner killer but I'll probably still give it a whirl.

3036497
Yup! I'm still hacking out the details, but I'm looking to try to make it around 35k.

3036640
Since Apple Polish wasn't at the reunion, I'm not sure if she's a recognized branch of the Apples. She might be a more distant relative. And since it's been 10-15 years since Twilight's audition, I decided she's retired from teaching since then anyway; she's now doing magical research full time. (Seriously, I actually did consider that.)

3036484
Crystal Avalanche makes me think of the lead singer of a pony rock band.

3036791

So the male, was her son then? And that's kinda sad if you think about it. Apples who seem tight nit, and all "All Apples are Apples forever", are either tribalist to the many Non-Earth Pony Apples (there are a few of them), or don't see one of their more learned ones as family.

Although it will be interesting to see AB and AP meet (if she's doing magic research full time, and AB has a love for Magic Research. It'd be interesting to say the least. Even more so if AB asks AJ why Apple Polish is an Apple, but Applejack doesn't consider her family. That'd be one heck of a sub-arc.)

3036814
I was thinking less that, and more something like Pinkie being related to her. Maybe there's a unicorn family out there with a great great uncle who was an Apple. Apple Polish might have been named for him, but wasn't aware of or part of the larger Apple family. It's something that might come up if they meet.

AP might actually be more closely related to Flim and Flam, which would explain their apple cutie marks.

3036837

Well Pinkie Pie was related to Auntie Applesauce, who ended up marrying a Pie ... or was it one of her kids that married a Pie in the show? So that'd mean that Granny Smith's Sister's foal / grand foal (one of them) ended up with a Unicorn. Still not that far removed from the Apple Family. I mean if Pinks is a cousin Twice removed. Then that'd make Apple Polish a cousin twice removed if that were the case.

Still if named after an Apple Family member, then that'd still put her as a member of the Apple Family, at least enough for the one she was named after (favorite one) to reminisce about her in the reunions.

3036851
If it was a great great uncle, for example, that would make it her great grandmother's sister who married an Apple. In fact, it's entirely possible that their kids/grandkids/great grandkids consider themselves Apples and go the the reunion (they might even be earth ponies), but their cousins wouldn't necessarily. My great grandfather came from Italy, for example, so I've never met his extended family, though several of my cousins are named after his brother-and-sister-in-laws, who were here in the US. This kind of situation makes even more sense, considering that that generation of the Apple family would be Granny Smith's parents, who were traveling seed sellers. It would have been easy for Sew-n-Sew to have had a brother who stayed in Canterlot and married a unicorn. His decendants might be Apples, but his wife's brother's family, for example, might not consider themselves Apples even if they fondly remember old Uncle Apple and occasionally name a foal after him.

3036950

Will still be interesting for an Apple to meet an Apple. Get her into the Apple Family way. Or what have you. But Apples don't seem to really operate like humans do. All those Apples (even the one's who're loosely affiliated) are all one giant herd (and as herd animals. Keeping ties, and staying as a group makes sense. Since while humans mingle in packs out of necessity (to stay on top of the food chain), herd animals stay in ever growing groups since it's how they are wired.). And with Herd Animals were strength is numbers and solidarity, I find it odd to have a favorite uncle. Yet (with how much they talk about family at reunions), wouldn't mention a non-earth pony relative.

That and we see, as with Pinks, It find it odd. Granny Smith is sister to AJ's Great, Great, Granny Apple Sauce. But all the Apple Siblings get together each reunion [Applesauce, Granny Smith, and Apple Rose.] With apples from all over Equestria getting together. It's odd that a herd species, with kin who get together from all over the world. Wouldn't follow up on their species natural inclinations to herd together, or stand by family (when they are living incarnations of such instincts.)

Anywho. Still look forward to the sequel. I have high hopes for it.

3036806 Don't make me get the whip!

3037649 No whips! You're not supposed to whip me!

I am ecstatic you're making a sequel! SpikeBloom is not something I've ever read, but I am a big believer in giving a good story and a good writer a chance, and I've seen shippings I don't enjoy become compelling due to a writer's skill, so I will be giving it the benefit of the doubt. :moustache:

I've got a long list of fics to keep up on in addition to my own work (cute robot pony, 'nuff said, plug over), but I'll try to check out those other fics of yours before long.

Keep up the good work, Bookplayer!

3037709 I don't play by your rules.

So, a sequel to a story that was really good but needed a continuation and one that will result in the most adorable shipping in existence (tied only with DinkyxPipsqueak)?

I hereby respectfully request that you PUT IT IN MY EYES!

This pleases me to see. Now, I have a problem... TOO MANY DAMN GOOD FICS TO CHOOSE FROM! And you have given me even more... *dives in reading*
plus this... AB is WAY better for Spike than Rarity.

3038104 Wouldn't that hurt?

YAY!!
SpikeBloom Sequel!
The best kind!

And Rarity realizes she's jealous of Applebloom... and so is Sweetie Belle!

Spike gets all da mares.
