Wanderer D posted a touching retrospective of his time in fandom, and that made me remember the very first I ever heard of the show.
(Potential implied spoilers but maybe not? below.)
I was reading a write-up of 4chan drama involving MLP, and in the comments people started talking MLP shipping. Someone posted this:
And I thought, "Hey! I love tomboy lesbians! Sounds good to me!"
...
I was thinking earlier, after watching the finale, how Lost Time would read now it's approaching canon. And debating perhaps giving Just Essay's stories a try, too.
I've discussed ad nausem my personal reasons for being against the "tomboy=lesbian" stereotype, but honestly... the whole thing didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. I mean, I still wish they hadn't, but the fact that they did did little to diminish my enjoyment of the series finale.
Besides, since Big Mac was already spoken for, Dashie might as well settle for the consolation Apple.
From the end of my story:
- MLP: FiM
- Romance
- Comedy
Lips collide and hearts ignite and uh... other areas moisten, when love is in the air.5139717
To be honest, it's not as sweet a victory as I once would have hoped. It came so out of nowhere, and while I never would have asked for a romantic build up on the show, it would have felt more earned after, like, Season 6 where several episodes had some great AJ and Dash interactions. But as shippers, ours is not to wonder why...
But I really am glad it's not a sore spot for you. As much as I find it amusing, my heart really does go out to the other AJ and Dash ship writers. A totally shipping goggles derived FlutterDash kiss made me ragey enough to write my first fic on the site back in the day, so I'm not about to argue with people who come up with non-romantic explanations or decide to reject this version of events and replace it with their own. Whatever makes folks happy.
I guess you and Skirts got it right. Appledashery for ever.
I was expecting your reaction to this. Actually, the moment they had the specific dialogue about the chores, while watching the stream live, my brain tought "gosh, that sounds like a scene of lost time"

All are beautiful stories. Lost time is in my top dramatic stories. I really liked Bookplayer’s idea. JE’s stories may be long, but they are worth it. Appledashery is so depressingly good, that I’m currently reading it for the 2nd time now. If you wanna give them a shot sometime, I’d totally recommend it.

nObOdY rEaDs ApPlEdAsHeRy...
Hah! Well, congratulations, then. :)
IIRC, the meme was originally a criticism of people stereotyping the tomboys as being lesbians.
I do actually kind of agree with it in a sense; it's a prejorative stereotype that I am not particularly fond of.
At the same time, I, too, like tomboy lesbians.
I mean, really, complaining about pretty girls kissing?
That sounds pretty gay.

Well, as the show creators themselves said, they weren't interested in doing any exploration of the mane six and romance. So there was basically zero real chance of any canon mane six ship being all that satisfying, because it would be thrown together at the end.
The Equestria Girls folks seem more open to showing the characters dating, and have had episodes where characters were essentially on dates, possibly because of the slightly older target demographic. Though they aren't allowed to say they're dating. Or have them kiss. And that included the straight ships, apparently.

Like I said, I never would have wanted a romantic run-up, but I would have been more satisfied with stronger friendshipping in the last season. If they'd had the focus of FlutterCord or Trixie and Starlight, it would have been plenty satisfying for me.

This is honestly the heck of it. It's not like Rarijack in EQG, where the hints were all intentional. The ship fuel is there for sure, but it's also been kind of slacking off over the last few seasons. :/
I mean, the lesbian tomboy horses had less of an impact on me, since I liked the lesbian creative horse the most, followed by the lesbian princess (and later on by best human-horse should-be princess lesbian OP that moved from horseland to across the mirror). I'm just amused by the flames that went around and the complete jumping-the shark by people that wanted to confirm their ship was legit! Sorry, Sparity-lovers.
I fuucking hate Appledash. There's zero support for it in canon and zero chemistry.

That's nice?

Excuse me but Sunset has been confirmed via tweet to a bi not a lesbian thankyouverymuch.
5140195 She keeps getting better and better.

So, wait. She's cute, smart, plays wicked guitar solos, and she's bisexual?!
5140260 Right?!
Aww the circle of
lifefandom. When I first got into MLP, I loved these two because they seemed the most interesting/relatable, since I'm used to the typically girly characters being the most bland (and then Rarity happened and she went from #6 to #1 real fast).
I think I even shipped them, but I'm still surprised it became canon, especially like someone else said, they haven't had much chemistry or moments together, not for a long while.
Still, I'm happy for the AppleDasher fans!!
(and I will continue Rarijack shipping. Ship and let ship)
I was prepared for this huge, epic-sized blogpost recounting the early days of Fimfiction and some profound moment of clarity.
This is way better.
AppleDash is canon, Fluttercord is canon, CheesePie is canon, EQG Rarijack is partially canon-
What else can a shipper ask for?
