Maybe have it in the style of... what was the name of that pirate anime? Perhaps explore adult subjects that kids CAN understand? Oh, and make one-note and/or recurring characters have descent personalities and development.
Also, fanservice. And I don't mean Japan's definition of fanservice, but ours. Fanservices, or unintentional references, make subtle nods to a person's past work.

...for some reason, I don't think it'd work as an anime. Making it an anime feels like, to me, it would take out a lot of the facial expressions when speaking and the way the eyes work, not to mention the background ponies probably wouldn't be as varied or have details missing every now and then. Finally, as good as the art of anime can be, I don't think the art style would work compared to the use of flash/whatever now. I'm not in favor so not 1, not opposed enough to select 2, not in favor enough to go 3, and never saw the PPG anime so no 4, and 5 is immediately struck out for reasons.
I pick 1, 5, and DBZ style.

Well, the art style of the show clearly takes some inspiration from anime, and I think that it'd be really cute and funny, however, if there were to be an anime adaptation of MLP:FIM, it'd probably be too over-the-top for my tastes—extremely overt facial expressions, an excessive amount of comedic interjections, etc. I'd probably stick with some cross between 1 and 3; I'd watch it, but I'm not going to go rally for it any time soon.
