The Day of the Dead Anthology

The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is a now-famous tradition from ancient times that has been a huge part of Mexican Culture through the centuries. Like so many things in Mexico, it's influenced strongly by certain aspects of the Aztec people.

It has shaped the way those of us with that heritage look at life and death in many ways, and most importantly on the remembrance of, and honoring the deceased. We traditionally decorate little altars dedicated to the memories of those that passed away… but it's not a somber occasion.

PSA: Using AIs to Write and Publish Stories in Fimfiction

Hello everyone, this is a PSA (Public Service Announcement, for those of ESL) to put to rest consistent questions about using AI to 'write' stories and publish them here. This is not intended as a poll or a request for feedback. It is exclusively a clarification on an already-existing rule.

People ask: "Can I, oh great and powerful D, post a story or chapter that I got ChatGPT to write for me?!"

And the answer, my friend, is... No.

Absolutely not. Not in a thousand years!

    Because you didn't write it.

It is not your creation. You are NOT the author. In fact, you are the opposite.

There seems to be some confusion when interpreting the following rule:

    Don’t Post (Content)

    Phishing Awareness

Have you ever found yourself in a situation like this?

And then you magically find yourself in a suspiciously familiar site, except that you're not logged in, and it requires you to do so?

Well. Don't log in. This is a scam, and a cheap one at that.

There've been recent attempts to obtain Fimfiction users’ personal data, like passwords and/or emails through links like the one I'm making fun of above. And a distressing amount of people don't seem to know what phishing attempts are.

If you HAVE entered a site like this and put in your data, make sure to follow these basic steps at least.

All Our Best [Royal Canterlot Library]

As should be obvious from 15 months without a feature, life has taken the Royal Canterlot Library curators in different directions. While there’s still plenty of awesome stories being written in the My Little Pony fandom, we’re no longer actively working to spotlight them, and it’s time to officially draw the project to a close.

Thank you for all of your support, suggestions, and comments over the years. We’re grateful to have been able to share seven years of exemplary stories with you, and give more insight into the minds behind them. In the spirit of the project, please keep reading and recommending fantastic fics to friends—the community is enriched when we all share what we love.

    Reunions: A Swapped Roles Contest!

Okay guys here's something fun presented by Nitro Indigo.

Presented by me, I guess, but I digress.

Last year, I (Nitro Indigo) noticed that there was a surprising lack of roleswap fanfics on this site. To fix that, I decided to run a roleswap contest over the summer themed around secrets. While it didn’t get many entries, it nevertheless attracted the attention of some big authors and was the origin of two of my favourite fics. Overall, I think it was a success, so I’ve decided to run another one!

    Minor Rules and Reporting Update

Hope everyone is enjoying the new year.

Some small changes have been made to our rules as well as to the reporting process.

    Rules

"No attacks directed at individuals or groups due to race, gender, gender identity, religion or sexual identity."

This better clarifies our previously ill-defined hate speech rule and includes groups as well as individual attacks.

"No celebration, glorification or encouragement of real life criminal activity."

This includes past, present and potential future crimes.

    Jinglemas 2019

There's truly no time like the holidays. What's better than copious amounts of food, quality time with family and friends, hearing the sweet sound of Trans-Siberian Orchestra on repeat, and unmanagble financial stress from our capitalist overlords?

    Gift exchanges of course!

Site Post » Fancy new user page editor · 11:16am Apr 8th, 2012

Yesterday I took the time to move all of the user page editing stuff over to the user pages themselves. If you head over to your page and click the "edit user page" button at the top left you'll open up a fancy little editor to do stuff in. I'll briefly explain how it works below.

Adding Modules
Adding modules is done by clicking any of the buttons at the top, in the editing toolbar. The new module will be added at the bottom left by default.

Moving Modules
Simply drag the header of any module to move it to a new location. You will need to click save at the top to apply your changes.

Editing Modules
Click the edit module button below any module and an editing window will open up. Click save to apply your changes. They will be reflected immediately.

Deleting Modules
Click the delete module button below any module. You will need to click save at the top to apply your changes.

I'll keep the old page around for mobile users. Let me know if you find any bugs.

Wow! This is awesome!

I would still prefer if the comment box were fixed at the bottom like it was before.

Seems like this past week, every time I've logged in the site's gotten better and better and better

Uuuuuuuuuuhhhh... Shiiiinnnnyyyy...

what the hay happened to the user description?

Ohhh yeah! Now this, this is good stuff. Good job!

I want a forum!:flutterrage:

63212 Maybe make a group called 'The Forums'? I don't know how well it would work but it's a start.
63145 Seconded. Everything's so shiny and new and delicious...

63220
probably wouldn't work at all. a forum for all users that is publicly displayed would work much better.

Loving the changes Knighty.
For those asking for forums, I imagine they'd require a lot of space, bandwidth, moderation, and debugging. While it'd be cool to have them, I'd never ask the mods to put themselves under that level of stress for something less than necessary

wanderful

Knighty, how u so profesh? This website is so nice. It's ridiculously better than fanfiction, as well as thousands of other sites. Thank you

63145 Except for the removal of the new stories bar at the top... I want it back! dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/yay2.png

WoooooW, just WoooooooW! The user page editing is superb! I LOVE IT!!!

EDIT: knighty, did you work on the dashboard as well? Now it works perfectly even under an old Firefox 3! YaaaaaaaaaaaaY!!!!

Amazing! Once more, fimfiction has been improved. Let's reach perfection!

I have a question: What happened to the front page? I know you changed the banner but the blog posts are no longer on the right side but the full blog posts are now on the left side of the stories. Is this a change or is something wrong with the site on my computer?

Oh so that is why my user page became too heavy for my 3DS to display, otherwise is a great addition.
Since you are keeping the old editing page for us mobile users (works like a charm btw), would you make the user page lighter for the movile site, please?
Thank you, and good job.

I like it! I got to do useful things, and it worked just fine!

As far as forums- if y'all are okay with not being lewd and naughty, ponychan /fic/ forums is very good and I run a crit thread there and have seen lots of folks come through.

If you ARE lewd and naughty, FIMchan /fic/ is even better ;)

Let's not stress th' FIMFiction admins with the burden of a forum when they have such a good writer's resource to maintain. There's other places to serve as forums. Anyway, ain't groups a little like forums? :ajsmug:

Cool, this works great! Easiest user page editing ever. Only thing that would be better is an option to resize each module.

Thanks for another good update.

New user pages are great, Knighty, but when are you going to implement gold accounts? I've been making paypal payments for months now and I still haven't gotten any of the benefits you promised.
The one I really hope comes around soon is the 'featured story for a day' that you can use once a month. I feel that really helps justify the 10$ a month that you've been asking.
Please make a post soon letting your pre-ordering gold account members know when they can expect these changes.

T4

I'll have to take a look at that when I get home. On my phone right now, not brilliant for editting stuff

Good, now that you has all these. Can we make suggestions on some features?

I want a StarSwirl character tag so that there will be more fics on Gandalf x Twilight...somehow.

Fantastic! Finally, an update that I actually like!

One minor problem though.

Why did the site delete my biography? Do I have to write it ALL OVER AGAIN?
WHY???

Good stuff, good stuff.

Have a pony: :rainbowkiss:

I like it! Hmm, what else to suggest, what else to suggest... Ah, I know! I thought of this the other day. In the bio, there are options to include contact info, like Steam and E-mail. It shows the icon for whatever it is and then some text to the right.

I think it would look better if the text was eliminated and the icons made bigger, maybe into buttons which the bio module sort of seams into using something similar the in-module boxes (gah, I suck at jargon! Like the box at the bottom of the blog module which says "Posted by TheOwlWBU at 7:39 am, 8th Apr" or whatever). Maybe some tooltips as well.

If you do that, it physically separates it from the FiMFiction bio but still retains the feel that the information still belongs with it, which I think is kind of appropriate for links to your presence on other websites. Hang on, I'll just mock up an example since I'm tired and I think I'm babbling and it's way easier.

Sorry for using crappy logos. My google-fu is being pretty weak.

STOP CHANGING THINGS

Where has the My page button gone?

It was pointless because it exists on the user toolbar. Just click your name.

64725
Thanks, I did not know that.
Still going to miss the little guy.

Currently, I prefer how the site used to be, but I don't disapprove of the change. I think with a bit of time, I'll grow to like it as much as it used to be.

Haters gonna hate, I personally love the new update....my page looks so shiny and new!!!
:yay:

Er... Not sure if I'm the only one with this problem but... Where's the bio at? Seriously. I may just be an idiot (which I really am), but I seem to have lost mine. :rainbowderp:

Excellent! None of this was necessary, and yet you guys went out and did it anyway! Love the changes with modules, especially allowing changes on the userpage itself. All i need to do now is get used to not having Spike around at the top left anymore :moustache:

Brilliant update! Cheers! :scootangel:

It's done on the user page now. I need to announce this properly somewhere. It makes much more sense there, you can just copy and paste the existing one across.

65021 Eeyup, I fixed it. Thanks for the help Knighty, you clever bastard. Keep up the brilliant work. You rock - :yay:

will we ever be able to add background on our page or change transparency levels on sections of the profiles.
I don't know, just having old youtube profile look nostalgia i guess :raritycry:

65021 Heya knightly, question:
I remember there was a "user's last five comments" module before the updates. Is that gone forever?
I thought it kinda neat, but I can live without it. Just wondering.
