    Rant

I'm sure a great many of you are purveyors of the fine arts. Writing, drawing, painting, singing, making music, whatever your flavour, I want to talk to you. People are going to tell you to study things that will get you a decent job, even if those things aren't in the direction you want to go. People will tell you that having dreams is nice and all, but you need to take the path of least

    Good lord!

    That's a lot of followers!

In celebration of this crazy occasion, I'd like to ask for your opinions on something. A lot of people come to me for writing advice, and while I don't claim to be the most skilful writer, I do know some useful bits of general knowledge. Would anyone be interested in occasional blog posts where I address the most common problems budding writers encounter?

    Where is the next chapter?

I'm not dead, nor have I been incapacitated. Every time I set a schedule, life makes it abundantly clear that it disapproves.
My apologies for the lack of updates. I've been so frustrated with having no time or energy to write that I cut myself off from a few things, this site being one of them.

    University Days next chapter RESULTS

The poll results are in and out of the 2,000+ readers, almost 300 voted. It's cool, I ignore blog posts too.

Anyway, the decision has been made and the next chapter will cover the day before Octavia's birthday (AKA awkward snowy cuteness).

Do it! For Science :twilightblush:

I would find it helpful...So my answer is yes...that is if you want to anyway.

Sure! spreading around information is always a good thing. Even if 99/100 don't care, as long as that one person cares, it is worth it:derpytongue2:

Sure, if I had a lot of followers I'd give out free advice(Thank god I'm not mainstream, I hate giving out advice hahaha)

I'm not much of a writer but it would be great to more stuff from the Almighty DawnFade! :pinkiehappy:

I would say go for it.

I know that if I find some guy's block where he writes a little thing about some good thumb rules or whatever, I read it immediately. I want to become a better writer, and I know I'm not alone in here. I think among the over 2000 people following you, there are a few others like me

As a budding ponyfic writer, I would absolute love to see some advice from the person who got me into ponyfics in the first place.

I would certainly tune in!

1046403 I agree with this guy. Nothing wrong with giving out free advise, but just don't be sad if not a lot of people give a hoot... then again with over 2000 followers there's a good chance that sompony would take it to heart! So go for it!

Yay! That'd be awesome! Do it, do it, do it!

Yes please :pinkiehappy:

Pretty please with Pinkie Pie on top? :pinkiecrazy:

Dawn, your stories are one of the best constructed ones around fimfiction. I would very much appreciate blog posts that adress writers' issues. It'll probably help my writing to get better. And I think a lot of people will agree with me. Writing is not something at school (not decently anyway) so any bit of help is much appreciated

Sure! :pinkiehappy:If you have the time and are willing.

Yes! I'd love that! I'm still a novice at writing, but some tips and ideas would really help.:twilightsmile:

Definently! :pinkiehappy:

Fuck yes that would be awesome

I know I personally need writing help, so you should definitely try this out and see how it goes.

Of course you should!

Oh my… YES! I will dote on your words and strive to live by them (for the most part at least).

I CAN'T YELL YES LOAD ENOUGH!!!! YEEEESSSS!!!

Well duh :P

Like that wouldn't be the best blog ever!

While i don't subscribe to looking for "how to" blogs to see how one should improve themselves, i DO approve of taking advice of people who's styles you would like to emulate, or that you think emulate your own most closely.

That being the case i would certainly like to take a page or two from any words of wisdom you would care to share.

That would be great! I am starting to write a small fanfic about trixie, and it would be amazing to hear about how you handle working with character which are pre-defined. (though uni-days doesn't really have those...)

Things that I would be interested to hear your thoughts on as a writer:

1. How do you cope with self-expectations of your own writing, I know that after I have written something after i go back a re-read it I say to myself "HOLY CRAP, THIS IS CRAP!!!" and then get all depressed and try and fix it, but end up just thrashing the little "flow" of the story that I had.

2. When you write a fanfic, do you use a outline method of are you a discovery writer (guessing discover...) Definitions.

3. I struggle heavely with developing meaningful dialog between characters, Do you have any tricks or methods to developing dialog between characters. For example, the conversion between psych and vinyl is very natural (if not awkward) and doesn't feel pushed. What is also very interesting to me is how they have "chemistry" almost instantly. What kind of magic do you use? Role-playing? character analysis? or some other voodoo which I don't understand.

4. Building your sets, although something that I enjoy doing, I wouldn't say I have very good at it. I guess what I am asking is how to find the right words to describe something, I know that mood can play a big role, especially when you consider things like "The cup half full/empty" sort of descriptions... but more in the department of how to describe a setting in a meaningful way which is easily understandable. (side note: Through the little writing of mine that I have let other read, I have found this to be the biggest disconnect. How do i approach this gap in description, and how do you go about describing a scene.)

I really hope that you start this blog up, It would be great to hear your opinions/methods on writing!

I am not sure that I necessarily need help( I am not much of a writer :twilightsheepish:) but as you can see, there would be many who would love to see this. DO IT! :pinkiehappy:

I'm constantly looking for ways to improve my writing.

Go for it! :rainbowwild:

Sure, any help is more advice than one had yesterday.

Besides, I'm at a bit of a standstill with my fic, after one session of writing, I already burned myself out! :twilightoops:

That would be a great idea!

Congrats on 2k Dawn, and absolutely, I would love to hear whatever advice you have.

Yeah sure absolutely!

I would love to see that! Hell, I know I could use more advice on writing lol.. but that would be awesome :rainbowdetermined2:

Dawn, if you can help me break my Writer's Block, I could kiss you. Please, for the love of Celestia and Luna, do it!

Honestly? It'd be nice to hear from you more in general. :fluttershysad:
Also, I'm so anxious for the next update of Uni Days! :rainbowkiss:

Honestly I tend to :pinkiehappy:, every time I see something from you....so do whatever you want

Yes, please.
I'm sure I'd be a better proofreader if I knew more specifics to watch out for.

I would love to be a better writer, so pretty much any tip you have would benefit me! Do it!

and please do give Tips!!!

I think that if an aspiring writer asks you for help that should say a few things. One, they trust you. If they want to write, they want there writings to be enjoyed by others, and if they ask you for help, well... That just means you must have good ideas, which leads us to the other thing it should say. Your writing is very good, and they want to adopt some of your writing techniques and incorporate their own. They have not yet found their style and want to experiment. This should make you feel good simply because there are hundreds of writers out there, but they chose YOU. I would say give tips. It could only help everyone. Even you, perhaps you find something that you can change, or just general know how of your style.

Dear Dawn,
Yes.

Love, Spectral

My reaction if you do this:

In other words, PLEASE.

Heck yes! Actually, in the fic that I'm writing, I'm trying to give some romantic tension (that develops into a relationship later on) to two characters, and after seeing how awesome you did that in University Days, could you maybe please help me out with a big cake and an octorok on top?:pinkiehappy:
The fic can be found here. You>>1046400would enjoy it too, I think.:pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy:

I'm not even a writer, but I'd like to read this.

I'd say it would be useful. It's always interesting, too, to get an artist's perspective on how and why they do what they do.
