HAHAHHAHAHAHAH
*snort* Ha, silly Sombra.
Probably my favorite statement about a villain... ever, of all time.
That was fun, may I have another? Looking forward to more.
Keep up the good work. Deus tecum.
Years later: Still a butthead, still getting featured, Still bad at ideas.
Still horrible dialogue.
Seriously. Wall of quotation marks. Half the time you're not sure who's talking about what until you're halfways through the conversation.
Dude.
The gave him some backstory in the comics. His natural form is the shadowy smoke thing but he thought he was a pony growing up. The crystal heart was extremely painful for him to touch and nearly killed him every time it was used.
Regardless... keeping it close is the only sensible thing to do with it, assuming he couldn't destroy it -- you don't throw your greatest weakness out into the ice where any random hero can find it and charge it up to vanquish you with. As long as he was in charge and keeping the ponies miserable, it was useless against him (Luna and Celestia didn't use it against him), but out in the wild it would have been a threat again.
...then again, my 'Cadance is really Pinkie Pie from the future from the past' story that I never finished had the crystal heart being a phylactery. It's a natural fit!
In which relation Cadence is bound to the Crystal Hearth?
6560214 It's her cutie mark? Doy.
...Wait, so would that make Cadence a lich as well? Or am I thinking the wrong way?
6560412 Not... exactly. Cadence is bound to the heart, Luna is bound to the moon, Celestia is bound to the sun, and Twilight is bound to the tree of harmony. It was previously stated in 'Twilight's book' that Alicorns are bound to aspects of creation, but this binding is more... natural. Becoming so entwined with something that you house a portion of your very being within it. Sombra, on the other hand, used dark magic to force a binding.
You can be selected by certain mystical forces to be bound with the object those forces belong to. Ex: Twilight was chosen by the element of magic to be it's bearer.
Sombra's kind of binding is different. Yes, he chose to bind himself to the heart, but only because of the heart's own durability. He could have, if he had a mind to, housed his soul in a paperclip, or a horseshoe, if he wanted. The difference is those items don't have a power of their own, and they can't choose a bearer. King Sombra, bearer of the seventh element of harmony, the element of paperclips!
No. Just no.
Also, what idiot binds a portion of their precious soul into something so easily destroyed?
Hasbro actually made a backstory for Sombra, but it was in the comics. I don't know if you accept them as cannon, though.
The title of this chapter alone drew my attention.
Well, the Heart was concealed a little better than Griffin makes it out to be. The door had a really tough curse on it (made it look like your worst fear. T only beat it because Spike was there too & his fear wasn't hers) + the stairs were enchanted w a dimensional warp right out of something by Eschar & a spell made everyone forget where the Heart was. (IIRC -been awhile since I watched the episode).
But, yes, IMO Griffin is basically right. Maybe not the door, but something in the library was likely his backup phylactery. That makes the library a reliquary & sacred -able to work miracles
Still, I've got a hunch that those ponies wanted in the library for something important & blowing them off like that was dumb as well as rude. Good manners cost little, he'd have been smarter to let them use the library. If nothing else, they are trained librarians. He could have bargained access for help researching his project. His contempt for ponies may end up costing him dearly.
I love this description so much, Im wondering if the door is like the Trap Door as well, if you cant use anything but a very specific magic on it, if you attack it, it swaps with elsewhere, elsedoor, or just goes away and leaves an illusion thats destroyed.
What would happen if Twilight messed up one of her spell experiments, and bound her soul to the interportal realm between Equestria and Equstria Girls?
*glomps the author*
Yay new chapter!
6560689 The whole idea is that the thing in the library is maintaining the spell on the door, so if he puts too much strain on the door, it'll drain the magic right out of the phylactory.
OK, I guess that the author knows how the magic system works
My point about those librarians is that Griffon thinks something like "Ponies are frivolous fools. Therefore, whatever they want in the library is frivolous/stupid & not worth my time to bother with". IMO, this is going to jump up & bite him. Those ponies clearly think whatever they want is important enough to devote the time & effort to. Sheer law of averages says by random chance some pony has to be right eventually.
DAMN CLIFFHANGERS!!!! Damn You, DAMN YOU!!!
Now I have to wait a whole month just to get another amazingly short chapter with. Fucking. Cliffhangers!!!

I'm sorry but this cliffhanger has pissed me off to the breaking point. I needed to get this outta my still frustrated systems.

If one month is how much time it takes you to write one chapter, in one
fuckingyear we should have 12 chapters... life is good...6564343 I give up trying to understand you.
So King Sombra is Kel'Thuzad from Warcraft? Here's hoping he has a Mr. Bigglesworth in the library.
6566744 Nope, he's Arthas actually
6568666 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To be totally honest, after I'm done writing Falling Feathers, I WAS thinking of a bit of a spin-off series focusing entirely on Seth. Reason this would be a good idea.
1, Because Seth is awesome.
2, Because it's an entirely different character who hasn't been really developed yet.
3, It would shrink the world down to a more manageable size, and it would focus more on simpler issues rather than world-impacting ones.
At the same time, I was also thinking of Beach House Derpy, but I don't think I'll write that because I wouldn't have enough content for more than a few chapters.
6573094 A fic following Seth? I'm in.
If you do go through with it, you could even frame it as a story that runs parallel to the 'world impacting' plot lines as a way to ground them through a fresh, narrower perspective.
6573094
you could totally make Seth become a dashing rouge that:
1. leads his own life away from his father and his kingdom
2. help lead the new bearers of the elements
3.leads a life on signal(weakest of the group)
