Is he still "mortal" after the dip in the river no one, not even Hades know exactly what happend to him.
And with his new powerlvl if he learns hove to control it, he could bee considered a demi/god lvl beeing on par with Cel. and Luna if u remove the moving of the sun and the moon.
But still good chap. if a bit short for the wait, but im interested to see hove it all plays out. Who knows he might have become a Ageless beeing design to guide his own country while poking fun ath Cel. and the outer "immortals" beeings for all their failures and stupidity.
*reads the author's note*
In other words, Griffon is a dick.
But that's what you get when you try to make decisions based on thought experiments and incoherent philosophy.
I looked at this story and my mind was blown clean out! I MUST READ IT NOW!!!!!
>>BlackWing "Why doesn't God step in and stop all the harsh cruelties of the world? Who knows. I don't. But that's the way it is."
Aight. So I maybe taking this out of context, but in relation to the real world, here is a pretty decent modern parable telling why God doesn't stop all the evils of the world.
"A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation and talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists."
"Why do you say that?" asked the customer.
"Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things."
The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist."
"How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber.
"I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!"
"No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside.
"Ah, but barbers DO exist! That's what happens when people do not come to me."
"Exactly!" affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! Because people do not look to God for help is why there's so much pain and suffering in the world."
Interesting...
5870018 Flawed reasoning. You are privileging the hypothesis, or in other words, proposing an idea without even a reason to propose it. Even if I've never met a barber in my life and don't know of them, I can speculate on their existence due to the fact that there are people with shaven hair (Note though, I won't strongly consider this idea until I receive more proof. I'd likely assume everyone shaves their own hair first, then later update my belief if I saw someone with long hair enter a building labeled "Barber", and leave with short hair). This is false in the case of god, there is no empirical reason to favor him over any other explanation. Not trying to rip on religion, ya'll can believe what you want, but don't try to prove beliefs that are un-provable using flawed logic.
Also, this chapter was pretty small for the time it took, but it was still a pretty decent one. I'm thinking I need to marathon re-read your stuff at some point.
You forget they have a new magic McGuffin: the rainbow power. i'd imagine as soon as the next big bad shows up it'll be highlights and mane extensions for all.
Interesting ideas. Looking forward to how they play out.
Keep up the good work. Deus tecum.

They don't get that power until after Tirek has pretty much won.
If anyone actually cares to read my reply to this, please read the full thing so you don't Youtube-commentor it
As a man who was raised in a Christian household, I tried asking my mother that when I was younger because it at the time, made no sense to me, and got the typical 'stick-your-head-in-the-sand, God-has-a-plan' answer SECONDS after I asked her that, which clearly states that she's never BOTHERED to take time to actually THINK about that. As someone who likes to occasionally think about things like this, I kept my face blank, nodded, and walked away inwardly feeling disgusted so that she'd not give me a lecture over it.
I work in a job position that gives me ALOT of time inside my own head, so I decided to think on that, and after several hours of doing so, I came to a simple, and halfway conclusion. Halfway, because it only pertains to the Human Factor, not to tragedies such as earthquakes, exploding space shuttles as they enter the atmosphere, heart attacks, and the like.
Simply put: Free Will.
God gave us the ability to make choices, be it following his teachings or not, having orange juice instead of coffee with breakfast, or walking up to the country's IRS HQ and flipping them off for an hour for F-ing you over with your taxes again. God wants us to be a peaceful race (for the most part. I'm not forgetting those cities that he had His People level or make war on with other nations, though I don't count the Crusades, as I personally believe it was a corrupt system lying to the populace about the will of God that led to this)
So whether you decide to love your neighbor, or set them on fire and laugh like a maniac, ultimately, it's your choice.
Any day this story updates is a good day.
That authors note was a bit on the spoiler-esc side. (and no, I wasn't confused by this encounter, hell I've been waiting for it) But it was some nice food for thought.
Still not seeing why the rating is what it is
Yeah, I kind of agree with Griffin on this. Although at this point I think Griffin is 2/4 divine as he is now as powerful as an alicorn, even if he can't control it just yet. As for Celestia, although Griffin is taking a sabbatical in Equestria, he IS the King of the New Dominion and as such has the right to threaten loyalty because he is one.
Another note, I'm hoping that with the summer the group will come active again, there so many stories I want to see continued. Also, I found this story: http://www.fimfiction.net/story/250448/the-prince-of-darkness It's based in the Chess Games (put as non-canon) but due to the groups inactivity the author couldn't get in the group. It's an interesting read, but the plots gone completely bonkers.
5870319 Timelines, man. I'll understand them one day. Thanks for reminding me
5870535 well said.
5870535 my understanding of free will is that even though God knows if you are about to do something evil, but he still allows you to do it. I would still argue that in order for us to have free will, God could not be all knowing, as that would require him to know our actions before we do them, which in turn would suggest that we were destined to act in that way... Philosophy is really confusing at times.
Fimfiction. The only place where people can have differing opinions on religion and not devolve into mindless name calling and senseless half truths.
Now, one major, key factor here is the difference between our world and Equestria. In Equestria, they have a living, breathing God. They can go see her whenever they want with their problems. It's not a matter of her not existing. Also, considering the sheer amount of blind faith they have in her, and the fact that they are MORE than willing to go to her with their problems, it's not a matter of faith or belief either.
Basically, to shorten my lengthly author's note explanation. If Griffin wins, Celestia does not have the power all her subjects have been lead to believe, their faith is misplaced, and they're all DOOMED because they decided to lay down and put it all on her, when she's not able to handle it, and she should have come out ages ago and told them so they could protect themselves.
If Celestia wins, then she does have the power her subjects think she has, in which case WHY hasn't she done more? It's not a matter of her subjects not having faith in her, or coming to her with their problems. At this point, Griffin would settle for an explanation, or even a wrathful 'You dare question me mortal?!' On the other hand, if he wins, he'd settle for nothing less than showing her weakness to all of Equestria so the ponies can get out of their 'I'm invincible because I have the princess' groove and start protecting themselves.
Considering the way ponies handle stress and conflict, expect mass hysteria and riots, likely the very reason she never told them in the first place.
Her only saving grace at this point is Twilight.
5870535 You also have to understand the context in which Griffin is speaking. He's not asking 'Why doesn't god step in to stop all the harsh cruelties.' He's saying it in retrospect. He knows that god doesn't step in, but isn't questioning it because he realizes that god has his own reasons.
Aka 'I don't know' because it's not his place to know. Basically, he's avoiding getting into a philosophical debate inside his own head, SPECIFICALLY so that all the readers CAN do that down here in the comment's section.
5869887 And that's part of why we love him. For all his reasoning, he still manages to screw up when it comes to his *cough* 'scientific' *cough* process, so he makes mistakes. He leaves out several key possibilities. The first is that Celestia was never a 'God' to begin with, only a particularly powerful sun spirit, which ponies just worship as a God because it's the closest thing they have, in which case it's not a matter of Celestia letting herself become weak, rather than she always was, and he'll feel like a total dick afterwards.
I should avoid saying more for [Spoiler's] Sake.
5871627 According to philosophy it's impossible to be wrong because your perception of the world causes it to exist, therefore no matter how you see the world, even if your perception differs from everyone else's, you're still correct because that's the way the world is to YOU.
Personally I think it's total bullshit, and if we consider the phrase above, that means I'm right!
5872217 I know, It's almost unnerving isn't it?
I look forward so seeing which case is true.
5870535 Kay, but riddle me this: If God values free will over everything else, shouldn't he still intervene to save lives? After all, living is kind of a prerequisite of free will. Also, suppose a child is born with a terminal disease that no one can cure, isn't it a violation of their free will that he won't get to live a normal kid's life and do as he wishes? It also would not violate anyone else's free will to save the kid (unless they want him dead, but if so, there's all kinds of moral problems with that)
5871627 Free will and God's omniscience aren't mutually exclusive. A simple solution would be that he knows every choice we could make. I'd consider that omniscience.
5873050
You are forgetting the other side of the christian belief. We are allowed to act as we want on this side of life, but there are repercussions.
In the End, the good are rewarded.
Evil is punished.
So... what happens if there's a stalemate?
5872249
I'm a philosopher at heart. I've actually sat down for hours contemplating what existence is. The conclusion I've come to is similar. I've actually come to believe that there is no real way to define existence, as everyone's existence (if they even exist) is different. With no standards of existence that can be shared due to the fact that everyone's (again, if the "being" in question even exists) existence is different, then does that mean that to them, some of the things that you perceive to exist don't for them? If so, who is right? How can it be proven if existence itself is questionable?
Whether you exist, are a figment of my imagination, or don't exist at all, enjoy comprehending that brainfuck I just said.
5873294 Kay, but that doesn't really address the question of people who act morally all their life, but still live awful lives (unfortunately they do exist). My earlier example was of the child with a terminal illness. He's never done anything wrong, but he's destined to die? Seems wrong to me. I won't speak too much on the concept of being rewarded in the afterlife because I prefer to deal in slightly more concrete concepts, but all I'll say is SO FAR I haven't seen any empirical evidence that an afterlife exists, and it sounds awfully like something a grief-stricken family member would make up (possibly even subconsciously) to make themselves feel better. That being said, I'm a proper rationalist, so I would be happy to rethink that belief the second I see even a shred of empirical evidence.
Also, I shall stop taking up comment space meant for the story with religious debate. A piece of clarification, I dont care about religion, I care when people are irrational, but unfortunately religion is a large source of irrationality.
5873050
*Shrugs*
No idea. Personally I don't get why we're programmed (genetically speaking) to be so faulty now when supposedly our species used to be able to live close to 1000 years. Supposedly God shortened our lives because we had the potential to cause 'much evil', which I get to a point, that point being that someone evil and in charge living for 500 years will do more damage than that same man living for only 60 or 70 years, but then I'm confused when later on, when several cities and cultures of man were also very corrupt, he arranges for them to be destroyed instead of doing something else to them as a personal punishment; why make ALL of Humanity suffer a shorter life expectancy as a whole, rather than just the guilty? I do not understand why he did not allow for those that serve him faithfully to be granted an extended lifespan, while those that do not, did not.
There are several other things in the Bible that also do not make sense to me, such as, for example, in the New Testament, Jesus teaches to "love your enemies, do good to those that treat you badly, and bless those that curse you...", yet in the Old Testament, there were many enemies of God's chosen people that God encouraged them to go to war with, or he arranged for their destruction himself!
I wish I could answer your question, but unfortunately I do not know enough in order to give you the answer you're seeking. I do not even have the knowledge to answer most of my own questions.
Maybe we ARE all crazy. Maybe the 'Ancient Aliens' people were 100% correct and God and his angels were aliens (or, given the differences between the old and new testament, two separate aliens playing as God from the same species at two different times). Maybe ALL the ancient deities are aliens. I have no idea. I guess we'll find out when the last prophecy is fulfilled. They've been pretty on par so far.
I'd like to think that Celestia discourages thinking of her as a goddess. Honestly, I don't really like Warrior Princess Celestia. Sure, she's powerful, but I don't see her knowing much about combat. That's why Chrysalis beat her, because the queen refined her combat magic to the point where she could get more power from less input.

Celestia: all out or nothing
Crissy: Plan wait and concur....
Crissy wins!
To be fair I think anyone or anypony would be just the tiiiiniest bit Absolutely Livid after everything our infamous captain has been through lately.
Looking forward to the inevitable confrontation.
5874722 To say God and his angels are aliens (I know your probably not all that serious just at loss of answer.Just noting before You accuse me of short straightness. ) Would make Him a living flesh instead of the Eternal and Omnipotent being that he is.
5874106 I struggle to answer those questions at time to , but God in three in one and one in three. They're many time he be they're at to separate time in the bible it would be hard to explain how it works. He ask Job at the end of his chapter was he there where he created all things. Can a man say what God can or can't do if God in himself created all things and Know all things before they happened. We choose to rebelled against God and listen to the devil lies in the garden of eden where everything was perfect. Doesn't not give God the right to punish us for breaking the law when he gave both Adam and his wife Eve the heads up before hand. The sins of the father is pass toward the children's which in this case is us the human races.
God could had kill us during Noah flood, but because Noah choose to stand closes to God he spared Noah and his family.
When God's people made the golden calf in was ready to strike them down, if it wasn't for Moses for pleading for God not to unleash his wrath on them. But even Moses saw how unrighteous the people are, God influence rub a little on him.
God came as his son Jesus Christ to died for the sins of his people because
We sin and sin must be punish, in every man or woman.
And apostle explain why they're war in our world in James 4.
James 4 1-10 New King James Version (NKJV)
He can't interfere that much in humanity until Judgement Day when He will Judge the whole world for every deed, thought, tongue (Speaking) and inner action through out the course of history. You can't convicted an criminal until all his crimes and confessions as been lay out. He does on occasion, but not to impress the world. It's to bring glory and acknowledgement to himself. That people would choose to believe in him.
Not everyone is going to have a doubting Thomas moment and have him appear in front of them, Some have to believe it without seeing him. Wither those action are small or great is up to the person. Even if he show up, you'll probably think it someone playing a trick or hallucination like Ramses and the Egyptians when Moses preform miracles.
5904315
Nope, no accusations. But I was only partially joking. You don't really have to be immortal to get someone in that time period to think you're a God, or at least possess magic. You'd just need to have technology at our level (or a bit lower) and then use a bit of that tech in front of them. If you took a flashlight back just three hundred years, they'd have thought you were using magic. Granted, for God to have been "in a cloud" and he seemingly never actually left it, one whom does not believe in God could say that it was some sort of sci-fi-alien disguised spacecraft. A "chariot of fire" could have been some sort of landing craft, and as to appearing to live forever, as I said, it might not be the same person pretending to be a deity but someone else that came along later and knew what their predecessor did, or it could have been a self-sufficient and self-repairing computer. We might not be able to picture someone living that long because our own lives are short, but some trees are several hundred years old (Redwood Forest). Some breeds of Sea Turtle can live to be well over 120 years, which is about how far we can get (give or take a few more).
TL,DR: Nope, no accusations, and only partially joking; our religion could very well be a farce, but that won't stop me from believing.
5904454 But if our religion is a farce as you say then our Faith is pointless.
It said so in 1 Corinthians 15:12-19 New King James Version (NKJV)
What the point of worshiping a God that doesn't exist? What the point of dying to something is they're no heaven to go to is we're just dirt for the soil?
Everyone think Death is the end when It's just the beginning of a new life. Because the core of our faith is God coming to earth as his Son Jesus Christ, Dying for our sins and rose from the dead on the third day. When we accept him Our Lord and savior into our lives along with forgiveness he cleanse us that we may be like him to be raise from the dead to live forever in heaven with our God. While those who don't accept are doom to go to Hell for all time.
1 Corinthians 15 20 -34 NKJV
So our faith as to be true, if it's not they're no point to worship anymore. They're no middle ground it's either true or false. No, if,and, but or maybe. That how narrow minded belief is.
5905567
COULD be a farce. But I don't believe that.
5906978
5907019
No worries, bro. *Holds up hand for high-five*
5907101 *Give High Five*
Yo! So a few things. First of allx is there some sort of organized group for all the chess game of the gods characters? Also, say I hypothetically wanted to write my own character in the universe, do I have to do something first to get permission or what?
5926494 Yeah, you have to get permission.... don't ask me how. I don't really know. I just show up and write.
5927210 Ah ye pirate! Oh well, I guess Ill ask around.
what chapter did griffon go into detail on his magic nulk on the beach?
God has a plan but unlike Celestia he can see all twists and turns life can take. He won't force us to choose what path and he wants us to do our best to do the right thing but Celestia is afraid of messing up to the point where outside planning she won't do anything even if it could make a difference in just one person life. She can't see that this unhealthy for her and everyone around her because they can't take care of themselves in a jam because they count on her to get them out but she can't do that. She can't see all the twists and turns because for all her power she is still mortal and just unaging and because of that she became a good planner but life will surprise you even with plans.
