that artwork is amazing.

That was a good story goodluck with the rest of it. These Battlehorn ponies seem interesting I wonder how they will effect series.

Those were good chapters goodluck with the next one.

Thank you. It's not very popular, but it is a work of love. :pinkiehappy:

The catbirds killed her lover. They're lucky they didn't get Daybreaker.

That was a good chapter goodluck with the next one.

Really finding the now three sided story interesting, at some point they’re going to colllide. Can’t wait. Meanwhile Celestia continues to get a little more unhinged every chapter.

That's great. I'm happy you enjoy it.

Celestia's lowest ebb? Perhaps, but it's pretty clear this story still has a long way to go!

Sidenote: I approve of any origin story that has Celestia and/or Luna start out from humble beginnings!

Okay I take back what I said about that last chapter, THIS was Celestia lowest ebb, at least in terms of the literal crap she has to wade through!

As bizarre and counter intuitive as it is, I found Celestia's connection to the sewer rats and cockroaches to be surprisingly endearing. I know it was hinted at in the other stories that Celestia is connected to Life in general, perhaps even more than she is to the sun. But actually seeing it from her perspective gave me some genuine warm fuzzies!

Being connected to the sun means being connected to life in this cosmology.
And I'm glad you felt that way. It was the intention.

No going to lie, I think everyone wishes they had a significant other that won't even let death get in the way of their pep talks!

And oh snap, we're going full WH40K, complete with ancient underground cathedrals and and lost technology!

So the Spellhorns are Space Marine analogs eh? Of course you know this means they require some fancy pseudo-latin title to go along with that. (Adeptus Solarii? Cornu Arcani? Magnuscustos Equorum? I dunno :rainbowderp:)

Interesting to see that Celestia's "flawed soul" appears to act as a kind of "leash" to ensure she can never leave Equestria without a Black Sun. Makes me wonder if her soul was deliberately built that way, and whether The Harpy's is to?

Speaking of The Harpy, I can't help but notice her overall role in the cosmology of this setting has never really been explained. The alicorns are fairly self explanatory (Celestia - Sun/Life, Luna - Moon/Death, etc...), but the Allmother has always been something of an enigma. Was she meant to instill living beings with will, with purpose? Was she meant to act as a mid-level manager on Harmony's behalf? (Heck of a job she did if this is the case, hard to run a business when you let your kids slaughter your rank and file employees!) Or is she a purely superfluous entity that doesn't understand her role has already been fulfilled? I'll be very interested to see if these questions get answered!

Yes. But there is a twist. :raritywink:
And I think you'll be satisfied with my bullshit Latin. :moustache: Their 'title' is going to appear eventually.

Piece of Parchment is going to touch on why Celestia's soul is the way it is as soon as it returns. I gotta finish Collateral Damage and it's quick sequel first.

What you're missing about the Harpy is one tiny insight: she doesn't fit. She is a monotheistic god, while the alicorns are a pantheon. What she did was put things in motion, as Luna explained in Fólkvangr. She created griffons that demanded Harmony reacted by creating the ponies. If she had taught griffons to respect the ponies and not go nuts on their meat, even though it was so tasty and gave them a 'high', none of this would have happened. Ponies would be happily seeding life on the planet and everything would have worked as intended.

I can already imagine the conversation these Battlehorns would have regarding the application of all that new technology.

Engineer: "Alright, here is a rough schematic of the new airship you requested. What type of armaments do you plan on mounting to it?"
Battlehorn: "Yes."
Engineer: "I... a-apologies, do you mean yes to conventional cannons or yes to the arcane canno-"
BAttlehorn: "YES."

Oooh things are about to get spicy!

This may be a double edged sword for Celestia, given that any griffon that dies and gets sent to Fólkvangr is probably going to have a story to tell about the giant, uncharacteristically ruthless unicorns they encountered! No doubt that will tip the Harpy off to whats going on.

And of course there is the tiny little detail that Celestia might be slipping back into a version of herself no one in their right mind would want to see!

Oh dear, sounds like not all of those griffons will be making it to Fólkvangr. Pretty sure Celestia just ruined the Harpy's good mood by doing that! Ruined a small chunk of Equestria too. Makes me wonder if it was magic of this type that gave rise to the Windigos.

"We found her (Chrysalis) dead among the debris-" Nope, not buying it. Chryssie has survived too much and for too long to perish in an uprising she herself contributed to! Still convinced the only reason she would side with creatures she KNOWS want her dead is because they promised her a way to fix her praetorians.

11842419
They're talking about Admiral Gloria. I'm gonna fix that because it's weird on the text.

Hoo boy! Even though these details were hinted at in both Fólkvangr and PoP, this chapter really underscores how much The Harpy has used her privileged position to alter the cosmology of Equestria, while raising so many more questions!

Given the fact that She views every creature that isn't herself or a griffon to be a mere animal fit only to serve Her whims and the whims of her children, I can't say I'm surprised She'd carve out Her own separate afterlife and sneer down at the system the "lesser" beings are relegated to. But I do find myself wondering just what purpose the Stormy Aerie truly serves. As far as I can tell it doesn't actually allow griffons to retain their sense of self upon reincarnation beyond what any other creature is capable of, if Gilda's lack of memories (till the events of Fólkvangr) and Cadence's recounting of Daffodil's multiple lives are any indication. Is it really meant to act as a reserve of veteran warriors for the Harpy to call upon during the later stages of her war to conquer Equestria, in a similar vein to Odin and Valhalla? Is it merely a chance for the Harpy's children to swap tales and catch up before they move on? Or is there some other as yet unrevealed purpose?

Tying into that, I'm left wondering if the Harpy's pride and need to set her own children apart may be a double edged sword. Thanks to Celestia we know the souls of most beings will depart back the the Pool of Souls as soon as the creature dies. Yet this does not seem to be the case for griffons, or at least the griffons no longer running the "PonyOS". So what happens when they die but there are no other griffons around to perform their last rites? Sure, they might be able to make their way to the Stormy Aerie, but even then it sounds like there is significantly greater potential for griffon souls to be ensnared and twisted into all manner of undead abominations. At the very least I'd be interested to see if any of our protagonists come across any undead griffons outside of the Frozen North!

And finally we come back to The Harpy. In the past I had suspected She had no real concept of Harmony and the role it plays in shaping the world. But this chapter really helped drive this point home. She views both Herself and Her children as above the processes and cycles that make up the world, and while I could be wrong it seems to me that this simply does not mesh with what we've been shown of how Harmony works. Even if I meant it as a joke, I think the TF2 solder was right. If Harmony had wanted The Harpy to rule it would not have created Celestia! Too bad She doesn't seem like the type to ever accept there may be forces greater than herself in the world, and at the rate they're going I'm worried She and Celestia will do something so catastrophic not even a Black Sun can fully wipe away the damage!

So anyway, that comment certainly ballooned out of control. Either way I fully plan on checking out Collateral Damage now that I've gotten caught up with this story!

There will be a story about the griffon and their afterlife and how it all works and how it makes sense.

When they die and the ritual isn't done, the Harpy has no way of easily finding their soul. They will follow the usual path, all the way to the Pool of Souls. And again, the importance of the story about the griffon afterlife.

Harmony was a tool to her. She used the way it works to populate the world with prey for the griffons. Celestia and the others were made out of the despair the griffons caused on the ponies. They were never supposed to exist as far as the Harpy is concerned and Harmony doesn't 'plan', it just reacts towards balance.

11843282
I'll be very interested to see that!
