What Do I Do? - Starlight Fan

You ever know what you do when someone cheats on their partner? Well for Trixie and Starlight, it was difficult, especially for the stage magician to actually confess to what she did.

I don’t know

Trixie wasn’t sure how she got into this type of situation but all she did know, is that she was so so sorry.

Trixie and Starlight’s relationship had been great at first, sure Trixie was a bit eccentric at times but despite that, Starlight was still able to accept her despite everything.

Though Trixie was always hungry for attention and despite the fact that Starlight really cared about her, sometimes she couldn’t always give Trixie what she wanted.

There were times where Starlight could get annoyed at Trixie and heck, sometimes she had to work at the School Of Friendship and couldn’t spend time with her. It really annoyed Trixie, heck she still remembered their last fight about it.

”I know you’re busy but can’t you at least TRY to take some time off.” Trixie had rolled her eyes in annoyance.

“Trixie. I have a job. Believe me, I try my best to squeeze as much time with you as I can but what I do is important.” Starlight said with an annoyed glare.

“Ugh. Well you’re clearly not trying hard enough.”Trixie rolled her eyes, “Twilight’s not a dictator you know, she won’t get mad at you.”

Starlight cringed at the word choice, Trixie realized she had chosen the wrong thing to say.

“Well at least I care about what I’m doing for a a living. It’d be nice if you did too.” Starlight said furiously.

However, her biggest fan, HooFar was always willing to speak with her, always praising and showing how much he cared about her. Day and day, each time she performed a magic show, he was at the audience, there for her when Starlight could not.

Trixie guessed she shouldn’t have been surprised when she and HooFar ended up making out. She was desperate, she needed to feel wanted, and he did exactly that.

She couldn’t blame HooFar for the whole debacle, he didn’t know Trixie was dating Starlight.

But Trixie couldn’t shake the guilt she had formed from her mind, she had told HooFar a relationship wouldn’t work out but she still felt awful. She could easily just keep this from Starlight. She didn’t have to know, and she wouldn’t need to.

Though… she knew it was the right thing to do. Trixie supposed Starlight deserved to know the truth.

The next day she had approached Twilight’s castle, and knocked the door, anxiously waiting for the door to be answered.

Soon it was answered, and it turned out to be Spike though he did not look happy.

“Uh… Spike. Why are you staring at Trixie like that?” Trixie asked meekly.
“Oh no reason.” Spike smiled with a twitch of his eye, “How’s HooFar by the way? I’m aware you gave him a special after show.”

Trixie paled at that remark, to anybody else, it could be just a small remark but to her, she knew exactly what was happening.

“You…You saw didn’t you?” Trixie asked with a stammer.

“Saw what? You giving HooFar a special kiss. Yes I saw.” Spike growled lowly, “How could you do that to Starlight? I know she’s not the best mare in the universe, but she deserves better than that.”

Trixie couldn’t argue with that, Starlight didn’t deserve what had happened.

“Did you tell her?” Trixie gulped.

“Oh I’d love to tell her what happened. Spare her from future heartbreak, but I figured you deserve a chance to tell her what happened yourself.” Spike glared fiercely at the show mare.

“Well, you’re in luck.” Trixie sighed, “I came here to do just that.”

Spike sighed before giving Trixie a disappointed frown, “I’m glad you’re at least you’re owning up to what you did but honestly, I’m really disappointed in you. Even I know not to cheat.”

Trixie lowered her head and soon Starlight walked to the scene and looked confused, “What’s going on here?”

“Hey Starlight.” Spike chuckled nervously, “Just talking to Trixie here.”

“Oh okay.” Starlight brightened up, “Honestly kinda surprised you’re here Trix. I expected you to be rehearsing on your next magic act.”

Trixie flinched at that word choice before sighing, “Actually Starlight, I have something to confess and… I think you’re gonna be really upset.”

“What do you mean? Whatever you did we can work it out. I can help you.” Starlight spoke reassuringly which Spike glanced sympathetically at.

“I don’t think you can.” Trixie gulped, “I-I cheated on you Starlight. I made out with HooFar after my magic show because I felt something for him, but… I’m really sorry Starlight.”

Starlight’s face fell and Spike and Trixie could tell she was fighting the urge to burst into tears.

“S-Starlight?” Trixie asked sadly, “Say something, anything!”

“I-I can’t look at you right now.” Starlight turned away as she closed her eyes, “Please leave. We’re done.”

“St-Starlight, I’m sorry…” Trixie began before Starlight glared furiously at her, “Do you have cotton candy in your ears?! I said GO!”

Trixie yelped and ran off, she sighed sadly, it was really over between her and Starlight. She lost one of the most important ponies in her life.

And she had herself to blame.

She wasn’t sure who she could turn to now.

Twilight lived in the same room as Starlight so that wasn’t an option, Discord would probably be furious at her, and she did not want to know how Maud would react.

She beamed, she knew one pony she could turn to.

Meanwhile Starlight practically felt like jelly as she laid in her bed, she thought Trixie cared about her, she thought Trixie would always stick with her, she thought Trixie…

She looked at the mirror she got at her graduation/victory party. She then saw a picture of her and Trixie smiling.

Starlight growled at the picture, used her telekinesis to grab it and ripped it up.

“Stupid HooFar! Stupid Trixie!” Starlight shouted furiously before her lip trembled, “Stupid me.” She whimpered before she let herself cry.

She then heard a knock at the door, and asked, “Who is it?”

“Starlight. It’s me. Twilight. Spike told me what happened.” Twilight’s voice was heard from the outside.

“Heh. Of course he did.” Starlight sniffled.

“Can I come in?” Twilight asked curiously.

Starlight had to respect that, Twilight could come in if she really wanted to with her magic, but chose not to so she can respect Starlight’s feelings.

Plus Starlight felt she needed a friend, “It’s open.”

Twilight soon walked in and Starlight immediately embraced her as she teared up, “I thought she loved me Twilight! Why would she do this?!”

“I don’t know and I’m absolutely furious with her as we speak.” Twilight said, letting some bitterness show, she and Trixie weren’t the best of friends but she thought Trixie was better than this.

“I-I feel so pathetic.” Starlight huddled herself into a ball, “I feel like… I did something wrong. I feel like if I had talked to her more or tried to make things work better she wouldn’t have done that.”

“Look at me Starlight.” Twilight told the unicorn as Starlight did just that, “Maybe you and Trixie weren’t doing so well in your relationship but that doesn’t mean Trixie should have cheated. Cheating is never the answer, and while you made some bad choices at times, you don’t deserve to be cheated on. And heck, maybe Trixie did love you and you two just couldn’t work out but hey, one way or another, we’ll get through this. You have me and all your other friends.”

Twilight soon embraced Starlight who hugged back with a smile, she was still upset but took solace in the fact somepony did still care about her. Though in all honesty, she was wondering if Trixie would be okay and to be honest, she hoped that one day, she eventually would be.

“And that’s what happened.” Trixie sighed sadly to Sunburst as the two sat at his tea set, “If you want to yell at me, I’m all ears.”

Sunburst sighed but spoke up, “I’ll admit Trixie, what you did was terrible, and I’m disappointed.”

Trixie sighed before Sunburst spoke again, “But… I will admit, you at least owned up to your cheating when you could have just kept it from Starlight, and don’t worry, I still have your back. You’ll get through this.”

Trixie smiled at Sunburst but then sighed sadly, “I sure hope so.”

Oh man. Sorry about that.

I don't necessarily dislike this or the premise, but it seems kinda generic and characters shoot responses at each other rather fast with little time for the audience to feel the emotions, even if there is a perfectly fine framework to work with in regards to the character's destress. For example, Sunburst's introduction at the end feels so brief, and it didn't really add anything to the story, as it was already established that Trixie felt guilty.

Eh. Fair enough. Thanks for the constructive criticism though.

Sunburst was purely just to show Trixie had one friend by her side right now. Showing she’s not completely alone in this problem she’s in.

Eh, I figured that besides Starlight, he was the closest to Trixie. Plus he’s understanding and level headed enough to hear her out.

So, I see where the story starts, but this really feels like it's Act One and then stops. There's the setup of thenconflict, things blow up and get out of control, but then... nothing really resolves.

Which may have been the point, honestly!

From my perspective, and I admit that I'm a weird example (I'm poly by nature and the romantic jealousy part of my brain seems to be a dud), but this situation is one where my first reaction would be to let Starlight cry it out, then try to get her to talk to Trixie and see if their friendship can't be salvaged at least. Trixie broke their relationship boundaries, but all evidence in the story suggests that she did So in the least egregious way possible, realized she had screwed up, felt sick about it, stopped things from going further, and then went to admit what she did and take her proverbial medicine.

She screwed up, but everything about her behavior indicates that she knows that, regrets it, and actually accepts that it's her fault. This is an eminently salvageable relationship, if they want to salvage any of it at all.

So glad you figured out my master plan. The plan was never to resolve anything but not to give the story a crappy ending for Starlight and Trixie either, at best, I’d probably have them go back to being friends after the whole thing blew over, though I am aware cheating can be forgiven if the circumstances are right like with Geoff and Bridgette in Total Drama World Tour.

"I know she’s not the best mare in the universe,"

That's debatable Spike.

Yeah can see this happening with Trixie being who she is. Starlight's obviously not at fault.

Vague ending is fine though this is another premise you could have gone way further with.

How come you feel what Spike said was debatable given her past?

I’m surprised you were able to buy Trixie’s betrayal.

11567027
Because I could definitely see Starlight bring best mare. Starlight is amazing. I mean if we're not considering the sisters of course, but Starlight is phenomenal.

11567035
Fair enough. Thoughts on what Trixie did to Starlight?

11567040
Awful. She doesn't deserve a mare like Starlight if she chooses to do something like that.

11567041
How were Twilight and Spike?

11567054
They were fine. Probably accurate Spike, though I think it would've been super interesting if he told Twilight or Starlight before.

11567073
Cause there's a lot to play with there. What would Twilight do knowing that before Starlight?

What would Starlight do?

Answering interesting questions is one of the funnest things in writing... for me at least.
