Appreciate you doing this before we had to get involved, even if all I'd have done is remove the art myself. Maybe give site rules and NSFW policy another look before you find a replacement.

Well, you certainly can't use anything nude or explicit. Our NSFW policy doesn't really overlap with derpi's that well (there's art they tag as "questionable" that we allow, but other images with the same rating we wouldn't allow) but if you're looking at a derpi image that's anything other than "safe" then definitely look for any warning signs in Fimfic's NSFW policy before you use it.
You can also crop images down to remove troublesome content, though if it's super super obviously a pornographic image we still might not allow it. But there are plenty of M-rated fics that don't even have remotely suggestive art, so it's not an obligation. While people definitely seem more inclined to click on stories with suggestive art, I know if I'm going to read smut, I'd rather the story did the job than the image - people can go find porn on derpi themselves if that's the experience they're after.
