Yes, reason for that. Bit of lore that may not make it to the fic: its a rank. Ive changed it a bit from the source material but when the ranks were first issued it was an entirely male corps, and was such for so long that by the time female commanders were welcomed, the masculine terms were kept, first as a bit of humor, then as tradition. Also, hence the first chapter title, the ambassador also holds the rank of King.

Thank you!!! Dialogue is something I struggle with, being ADHD and very socially awkward. It helps being able to control both sides of a conversation, but I always worry that what Im trying to say, or imply, wont come out right to other people, no matter how much sense it makes to me.
Magic is something entirely new to the humans that found Equus, and as such is their 'buy in' for the Federation as a trade-able service. The Equestrians will be getting one heck of a jump start into interstellar travel and life among the stars.
