This will seem like an odd question, but I at some point early in the series I remember having a question about if the human was wearing clothes, and I just figured that I’d ask when I got caught up or see a recent comment so I thought I’d ask.

Doug continues to lack clothing.
That is an understatement. Someone explain to me why Doug refuses to explain anything to anyone he just keeps quiet for most things. He is quite literally working against himself and it's really frustrating.

Thank you
I'm hoping Sunset can help him and treat him better.
Gotta say I am surprised to see Sunset Shimmer and nice to know she is more rational minded. Still not liking the self important guards, this version of mayor mare is alot more cowardly and intolerant than I usually see in fics. Also I doubt Doug has actually forgiven the ponies especially the guards and to a lesser extent pinkie for what they did and said, heis going to have a few chips on his shoulder that are going to get worse I feel.
Friendship is an important part of Equestria's Tenets, huh?
Sure ain't showing it; the only reasonable ones are Applejack and Rarity, to an extent.

Wow, thanks for all the comments! While a lot of the antagonism has been because of misunderstandings, there are some real differences between their expectations and cultures. Some of those have been hashed out to a certain extent (such as 'what do clothes indicate') while others may never be resolved.

Agreed. It's hard to believe someone this stupid can exist.

I'll take the question :) It's really pretty simple. Even if you discount someone taking the view of lashing out only making things worse, creating more arguments would be one of the worst things he could possibly do, second only to violence. He is in a different ecosystem now, with absolutely no laws to protect him or even ways to survive on his own. Surviving as he can and creating inroads wherever possible, no matter how rare, is the smartest thing he could be doing at the moment. Not everyone takes the stance of airing out their angst whenever possible IRL, indeed many keep most of that to themselves rather than make situations worse with whining or anger. I'm not sure what is exactly meant by working against himself, I don't really see anything at all that he could have done or said differently that would make a positive difference, the only thing he could be doing differently is either being more emo, being locked in jail for being a "threat", or trying to survive on his own. All of those are decidedly worse options. Additionally, he's been very open about how he feels to AJ and particularly Rarity in this chapter. And has been pretty open all around for someone surrounded by aliens

Wasn't a question.
I will not speak for Mr. Tin man. However, I will respond for myself.
Lashing out would make him infinitely more stupid that he already is.
We are talking about simple communication. Using words. He is not communicating. That is the issue.
The only ones he seems to be lashing out at were the guards. Which is also incredibly stupid. Nobody needs another story with yet another angsty little twat. The main character is the worst part of this story.
I just want to say first that I like the CONCEPT of the story. Unfortunately this chapter just confirms a problem I have with it: The ages of the characters.
I just assumed that you were portraying the mane six as being in there late twenties or early thirties by the start of the show, which would explain some things, BUT with Sunset still being Celestia’s student that means the mane six should still be WAY underaged at this point. Remember that the mane six got there cutie marks at the same time when they were around the same age as the CMC and right before Celestia makes Twilight her student. After Sunset has already left.
None of this makes sense and just feels like you either skipped or forgot that episode, or you left out some info in the description explaining some differences in the timeline or something.

Mid to early twenties is about where I peg the mane 6 at the start of the show. Their careers are fairly solid, the main thing missing being romantic partners (which, being a kids show, I can understand being missing). This necessarily puts them younger, but (in my AU at least) ponies age through the early years (0-15) in about a third the time it takes a human.
It's tough to get a good read on Sunset vs Twilight, but I had put them at about the same age, mostly because the Equestria Girls universe puts them all in high school together. I didn't know Celestia 'fired' Sunset before Twilight got her cutie mark; maybe it does exist, that would be great if you could point me to a comic or short or something where Sunset is appreciably older than Twilight.

It’s been assumed, I think, that Sunset Shimmer and Twilight Sparkle are the same age. I can see Sunset being slightly older than Twilight on the order of about 4 years or so with Sunset a Senior in high school and Twilight being a freshman. Also, no one has ever really delved into the time frame between when Sunset first went through the mirror and when Twilight earned her Cutie Mark and became Princess Celestia’s new student. I think at this point that Sunset is planning her break with Celestia while Twilight is just a very young filly starting to show her talent at magic.

Sometimes the way comments work on this site can be frustrating; there was a followup response (comment 540) with a link to a comic that goes a little more into this time frame. Sunset Shimmer is older, considerably, and 'left' before Twilight got her cutie mark. This doesn't exactly line up with the movie, or other parts of the... secondary canon, I guess.
For the purpose of this AU, Sunset Shimmer is about roughly the same age as Twilight and the rest of the Mane Six. They know of each other, vaguely; their projects and solitary studying habits keep them from interacting very much.
Ya can hoofle it.
Sure is rough going for Doug so far.

Where does "lashing out" come from? Tin Man clearly said "explaining." Considering he's a strange, as of yet undiscovered species, no one - Doug included - seems to give a damn. Also, the locals are really quick to call him a monster. What exactly is so monstrous about a human? IDK, for a people surrounded by other sapients - gryphons, dragons, buffalo, etc. - (these) ponies seem pretty bad at making friends with other races. I'm not about to say it's OOC, because canonically the ponies struck out with just about each of these races at first try, but damn. And if he IS a monster to them, why do they just let him travel freely in and out of town? It's real inconsistent.
Back to the original point, Doug seems to know he's from somewhere very outside the norm, why hasn't he tried to talk to Mayor Mare? He even stumbled over the idea of "take me to your leader" and dismissed it. WHY!? Maybe, just maybe, if Doug introduced himself to Mayor Mare, explained, "I'm not from around here," and inquired what he could do to reassure everyone, most of these issues wouldn't exist. But in the ponies' defense, Doug hasn't made any attempt to try and acclimate after the library, either.

The comment I responded to was edited after I replied ;) it's also a reference to everything this specific character held himself back from doing or saying out of anger. Right now he is in a "safe space" when dealing with AJ and Rarity. He hasn't had good experience with authority. A lot of people like to assume he should just treat their system like we would with out own, and while that's an option, it also makes sense that he would be afraid to interact with that authority. Anyone who has spent time in jail could tell you that. He doesn't know their rules, laws, or even if they have due process. From this chapter, they don't even know their own protocol.

Ah, thanks for clarifying that first point. Still, I find it irksome that he doesn't seem to try anything to stabilize his own position. There's no conversation with the ponies he's in good with, regarding how things work regarding governance or laws. This is an easy conversation to have. It would only make sense that he would treat their system like our own until he knows otherwise, after all, he knows no other system.
Jesus, screw both Mayor Mare and her two assistants, especially Tall Order. Because if that racist, intolerant assclown had his way, then Doug should and would have been chased out of town the moment he showed up in it.
It didn't matter that he had not attacked or hurt anybody in the town and was an intelligent creature capable of both speech and reason, he was to be chased out of town simply for him being different and not being a pony.
I'd have understood such a type of mindset if Doug had come into town ranting and raving like an absolute madman, breaking stuff and randomly attacking the ponies without any provocation. The ponies treating him in such a way though without any good reason is absolutely ridiculous.
The way these ponies keep on acting and treating Doug, only furthers in my mind that Ponyville is nothing but a giant rank cesspool of intolerance, hatred and racism/speciesm. That the vast majority of its residents simply aren't worth Doug wasting his time and effort interacting with or ever getting to know them in the slightest.
And Equestria is supposed to be a land of peace, acceptance, tolerance, friendship and Harmony? That's true if you are a pony maybe, otherwise you are completely shit out of luck and are going to end up being ostracized and as an outcast.
My biggest two questions at this point are, does Celestia know that her "little ponies" treat "outsiders", even peaceful ones, in such a poor manner. If she does then why in the hell does she allow such horrible behavior from a people that are supposed to live by the Tennents Of Harmony?
It really makes me question just what type of personality this version of Celestia really has, and if she just might be leaning towards the racist/speciest side herself. Or if she simply doesn't deem that issue worth her time and effort to correct or she simply just doesn't give a damn.

See, here's the problem. All those things you wanted to have happened - him ranting, breaking stuff, acting violently - they happened. Or, at the very least, the ponies thought they did.
Rough timeline:
He came into town, unmolested, and talked to Fluttershy, who confirmed he isn't an animal - he's smarter - and fled.
He talked with Storied Pages about portals and enslaving whorses.
He walked around town as Storied Pages and Pinkie Pie spread word about this.
He went to Rarity, who then came out of her shop wearing a saddle (le gasp! he is enslaving them as whorses!) and Rare Find burst out claiming he is a monster.
---All unfounded, or misunderstandings, but the ponies didn't necessarily know that. It could have been Pinkie being Pinkie, or a mixup with the saddle - but all five being mistaken?
Celestia dispatched two guards from Canterlot to do what you recommended in chapter 11 (did you read ahead? I think you read ahead ): gather information, prevent any other occurrences, and be her eyes. She also sent an agent of the Secret Monster Intelligence League of Equestria in case this purported 'monster' needed capturing, as well as her personal student to conduct the investigation. (It isn't because Celestia is lazy, or doesn't care, but because she believes in her little ponies, and shows that confidence by entrusting them with these kind of situations.)
Could this have gone better? Sure. But what's the fun in that?
