Why does the guy panic a the sight of a few ponies when he has a gun at hand ?
They're not exactly imposing animals, even if some of them have horns. If he thinks them to be horse/rhinoceros he could just climb a tree and pick them of with his gun. If he believes the sounds to be language he could try to communicate before attacking them.
I can understand if he doesn't thinks clearly at the moment and doesn't thinks of these options but going into full blown panic ?
Well, if it comes to a confrontation between them that end in a fight please don't have him going down like a total wussie besides having a gun like they do in all the other fics. And don't have him crying like a little girl if he actually manages to hurt some pony in self defense.
That are two things that annoy me to no end in fics like that

It's more of a case that he has no idea what the hell he is seeing. I figured that he is just now realizing that nothing is really normal, so he is overreacting to everything. My logic is that he had a "Fight or Flight" kind of moment, and he decided that fleeing would be the better option (limited ammunition, unknown capabilities). He doesn't know what they are capable of, but if under enough pressure he will try to escape. Also, he has no idea what the ponies are or that he is even no longer on earth.
Next chapter will have some more confrontation, but I will try to avoid anything like that. Remorse for a wrongful killing is natural, but it shouldn't define the scene or his life.

That was kinda disappointing. I can believe that the CTC somehow evade everyone and find him but I hope that you will show us what happened when he was captured. After all he was armed and should be able to overpower Flutershy without much problems or just let her go, gather his things and hightail. The CTC gonna give out his position either way.

I will probably address the details of his actual capture in the next chapter. The last segment was simply told from the perspective on the CMC. All they knew was that a fight of some sort happened and the end result was the guards capturing Jake and Fluttershy being set free.
But i mostly just needed a slightly funny way to end this small story arc and advance the plot.
Huh, I like the negating(absorbing?) magic aspect.

I seriously hope Celestia doesn't go all tyrant mode on him when they do meet.
1259020 just think back to all the fanfics that Celestia has welcomed a human to her lands and you will have your answer to that.
He was not just in his way. He was part of a manhunt that the princess started because she felt like it.
They backed him in a corner and he defended himself, that's the most natural thing to do. Even a Pony's should see that. They know that not every being becomes a quivering mess when it feels threatens, some attack intelligent or not.
They had days to think about it and I'm not sure where you are going with them not realizing how they themselves contributed. They can't be that ignorant and they seriously cant claim moral highground after they hunted him down just because and imprisoned him for defending himself. Lets not even begin with prison conditions, from what I understand its not more than a cell from the dark ages.
Ok, so the Rainbow Dash sneaking into the barn scene was some of the most fun writing I have done in a while.
