Discord is so right about how "clique"-y ponies get in the show. Something that only recently got fixed. And how Equestria is very orderly and control obsessed to the point of Twilight having breakdowns if something changes the tiniest bit. And Discord is the living embodiment of changes and shaking things up. So no wonder they kept wanting to turn him to stone.
