Papa Oats

Chronic nicotine addiction and drug use are my whole schtick.

An elderly man is nestled into his rocking chair, gently rocking back and forth. His cane gently hanging onto the arm of the chair, lightly dragging against the floor occasionally. In his hands is a small block of world, deftly being shaped into art by the work of a knife, held in his other hand.

'block of wood' you mean?

This was certainly an interesting start. I love the imagery, very evocative. I look forward to more.

First sentence and already a mistake, nice catch mate.

Reminds me of my grandfather. He didn't carve, but he tinkered and smoked and told stories to any who would listen. I tell a few of them, every now and again. But, it's just not the same.
I think I'll go dust off the old tape player, spend some time listening to what he left.

Thats what I'm going for. Reminding people of the good days when they could sit and listen to their grans tell stories.

Heh. For me, that time was probably before you were born.

Very excellent story can't wait for more great work

great story, i'm liking the old feel to this story and the mystery around the guy

So I guess that smoke somehow sped up his time? So he could work faster in a shorter period but on the cost of his health. Reading this story for me is kinda like how my visit with my grandparents was, lots of storytelling and cool old gadget. Good ol times.

Tobacco on the bottom of a hole, sometimes blocking the pipe from letting smoke through.

Why do you have to make honest to God, good damn stories, I've stayed up all night reading them damn it! That's how good they are...

A wonderful Christmas gift, thankee kindly! Good heavens, how long has this old fellow been around?

I don''t care what anyone says, these stories are so unique in the way they're done, I absolutely love them.

Nothing like a good smoke and a view. What sort of tobacco does old Baccy smoke? I'm partial to Captain Black myself.

When feeling a bit fancy, Grandpa Baccy smokes Sutliff tobacco from Virginia, but his everyday mixture is half 4Aces and half Arrowhead, only to make a mixture of the two so he feels like he's being fancy.

Though he seems to prefer Arrowhead, if only becuase he used to collect Arrowheads.

Grandpa Baccy is lightly based off my own grandfather on my mother's side, who used to carve his own pipes and grew his own tobacco. But whenever he felt like buying it, or just felt too lazy to go out and tend to the garden, he would buy Arrowhead. Usually during his trips to Virginia.

Sutliff's a good brand, though I honestly haven't heard of Arrowhead before. Tend to stick to what I like, don't ya know?

Say, do you smoke?

My dad smoked a pipe and some of the brands he smoked was Borkum Riff and John Middleton Walnut Mild Tobacco Blend, sometimes he'd blend them. I hated cigarette smoke, but pipe smoke was nice, kind of like incense. Like Venerable Ro he occasionally smoked Captain Black as well. I still smell it occasionally in places he frequented when alive.

I'm an avid smoker myself, of all things burnable. I gave my pipe to a friend of mine when I left college, so he would have something to smoke out of. Currently I'm sticking to vaping and the occasional cigarette or two until I save up enough money to buy a new pipe.

I love this story, and I will never change my mind.
