Interesting... the ones with twin marks are named after a type of fortress. Based on Eerie's comment, their marks, and their names, I assume they are defensive specialists?
Sumac was right, Mi Amore Credenza is a busybody.
Impressive chapter I can understand Eerie's fear and why the Dark spire was destroyed
Has she been doing the blind weddings yet? I still think it's a powerful force of enshrinement.
8596244 the real question is why their marks are identical.
The Darks were something left to fester. Disease begets disease after all. Fortuantely there are still those that can recover. I wonder if any other darks can be saved here. ....
Then again some disease is to benefit. Our bodies are riddled in helpful bacteria that our body intentionally creates an environment for.
Well Dang, Mi Amore showing off them alicorn powers.

I would guess linked/sympathetic magic, myself. Motte and Bailey is a walled fort on a upraised earthwork. This is more effective than just one or the other... thus my supposition. :)

Just need the wings, horn, and coloration on this....

PS: I tease.. I'm sure Princess Cadenza wouldn't mind.

Godhead Cadence. Very nice, very nice indeed.
BEWM!
Cadence is back, and she demonstrates her badassery... with something she didn't even think possible.
... Really not on Cadance's side here... She comes across as just 'God-Delivering-Judgement' rather than a actual person with flaws, hopes, and dreams who can be empathized and sympathized with.
And she seems to be perfectly fine with the fact that she and the Sisters pretty much mind-raped Dim and inserted a backdoor into his deepest psyche specifically made to be undetectable and irremovable, she only seems regretful that it had 'unintended' side-effects (such as destroying his capacity to recognize, name, or think about her as an individual in any way.)
She also just seems like she doesn't really give a damn about Eerie, whether she lives or dies, and she's only still alive because killing her would hurt Luna, not because she's good, a potential ally, trying to redeem herself, fighting as best she can against what the Darks have done, etc.
She just seems like a very the-ends-justify-the-means, distant, and completely not mortal sort of ruler/goddess, from what I've seen here.
(But, of course, she says "Sorry bout that" and feels bad inside about it, so she's still 100% the good guy.)
I'm personally much more a fan of 'Burn-the-wicked' Chantico, who seems rather more 'benevolent'/at least less morally grey (black-and-white, yes, but not grey) compared to what we've seen of Cadance. And at least we know her aims for Dim: burn the wicked, protect the innocent, and spread her faith so she doesn't die (again.)
Speaking of, we haven't heard from her in quite awhile, is Eerie blocking her along with Cadance? What about the spear that houses/enshrines her? I guess he doesn't really need it here, since he feels safe, but Chantico would presumably be able to do things with it even if Dim couldn't hear her voice.

Cadance is speaking to Eerie in the only language that Eerie understands: Power.
See, Eerie honestly thought all of this was about her. Hence the whole part about Cadance gently reminding Eerie that none of this was about her. Eerie was so wrapped up in her own selfish needs and her own desires that she didn't even stop to consider that this was about Dim; no, if Cadance was there it couldn't possibly be about Dim at all, it had to be about her. Thus, this is the depths of Eerie's self-centeredness and selfishness.
The Darks all seem to have these fever-driven egos that burn them from within. Eerie is haughty and arrogant to the highest degree, and one only need to see her comments about being born to rule.
Nowhere during this post did I say that Cadance was right, but I have laid out some of the driving factors and motivations for what has taken place.

Fair enough, I suppose I somewhat missed the fact that finally speaking to Dim again wasn't her objective here, she was speaking to Eerie and reassuring her/convincing her to 'let her through.' Gearing her approach towards her makes sense.
Of course, from Eerie's side of things, assuming she was their objective makes perfect sense, given she's a Dark who "escaped" their apparent purge (and isn't their chosen favourite, Dim, who is apparently the Dark who will redeem their family name) and a foreign head-of-state with motherly connections to the rightful heirs of two nations. If she was the protagonist it would definitely have been so, but since Dim is and we've been following him for the past two books it's obvious to us that they don't really care about her all that much/he's not their plan to eliminate her.
And given I haven't read the other stories in this 'verse I don't really 'know' your Cadance's personality, so I'm largely going off of what she does here to Dim.
There's still the issue that Dim really should not trust any Equestrian alicorns, given the mind-rape, secret backdoor into the depths of his psyche, erasure of Cadance's existence and apparently his ability to even perceive her or hear her name without brain trauma, (I'm curious now, what would have happened if he went to her like she asked ages back/will happen when he sees her in the flesh? His brain leaks out his ears? He goes mad because of the alicorn-shaped void in the fabric of reality? The spell breaks? Nothing?) and previously mentioned ability to cast spells through him, regardless of distance.
At least not without some damn good explanations from all of them.
8596919
There are some bits in other stories that actually explain some of this, though not all of it, and why this is necessary. Necessary? Justified?
It isn't made clear here, but the psychic backlash here was partially Eerie's fault, and the method she was using to block Cadance. However, this is not known to either party. Cadance believes it was the fault of another, a faulty spell perhaps, and not knowing the full circumstances as to what has happened, is more than willing to take the blame for it.
Some of this is my fault, because there is a lot here that the reader isn't being told, and can't be told, because the full revelation of the knowledge of what took place here simply cannot be expressed within the story. Not without breaking reader agency.
8596938
Hm what are you meaning with this?
8597105
Reader agency. The reader's ability to grow and to be invested in both the story and the characters.
In this instance, we are dealing with compartmentalised knowledge. Cadance only knows a little of what is going on, Eerie too, knows little, so between the two of them a clear, concise, copacetic understanding of the situation cannot be produced. To fully explain what is going on, one would have to have a character spout knowledge of something that they would have no way of knowing, and this would degrade or even destroy reader agency.
As the author, I have no way to convey to you, the reader, everything that is going on with this situation from within the story. In story, I have no way to tell you that it was entirely Eerie's fault that Dim got his brain a bit scrambled and he had a nosebleed. I have no way of framing the knowledge that it was her own psychic intrusion that just about gave poor Dim a stroke. By the same token, I have no way to convey to you, the reader, that Cadance, being a gracious, good pony, took the blame and the responsibility for act that she was not entirely responsible for. Neither Eerie nor Cadance have the awareness or the knowledge that I, the author has of the situation, so they remain clueless. This preserves reader agency. I, the author, and the knowledge that I possess, must stay out of the story.
Pink lightning arcing all over the room, and a booming voice “POWER. LIMITED, IMPRESSIVE POWER!” Followed by sane, lovely cackling, almost like the sound of some some kind of bird
8597151
Hmm Well then it means that I had inferred that without real hints from the text ^^;;
Because, for me, it was CLEAR that the "stroke" that got to Dim was due to Eerie messing with Cadance "link"
So...are the steam dragons a nod to the Xanth novels by Piers Anthony?
8597537
You can't know about that. Stanley Steamer Iives in the.. The.. Umm. Who's Stanley?
