Inspired by my story, "Loving the Nightmare" -- Twilight Sparkle travels to the alternate timelines she saw while chasing Starlight Glimmer. Seeking knowlege, she instead finds lust, passion, possession and desire.

Woohoo new chapter! I was thinking about this story yesterday hoping it'd get one soon.
the issue with Nightmare Rarity is making Nightmare a different being completely. it weakens Luna's fault for as she litterally has a scape goat now.
Give another reason for Nightmare Rarity and i am in. hell in this story the torture done to her could create Nightmare Rarity showing Rarity's hidden talents not a full dues ex machina

Except that here the Nightmare said upfront that she only acted upon that which was already there. Given that in canon Nightmare Moon has always been characterized as the sort of mare to be upfront about what she wants and how she's going to get it, I doubt such a creature would be duplicitous in nature. That it would only appear to ponies in their hour of deepest, darkest need would likely be enough to get their way even without using a silver tongue. Anyway, I bet such creatures specialize more in finding loopholes after the deal is struck than they do trying to bargain in ways that might show their hand preemptively. It reminds me of the shade that possessed Stygian, actually.

But in general not a fan of this idea

this is a pretty good take on it, honestly. i'm not even sorry that while i was wading through the papers on my desk i happened to whisper a suggestion to pen and was given this glorious chapter in response

You've already made one author give up on their story, don't do the same with another. Ya nitpick often.
I will say that even Faust herself says some external entity was involved in nightmare moon's transformation AFAIK.

That was up to that author.

if it helps, i can tell you with full confidence as pen's editor for four and a half years now that he is not going to abandon this story any time soon.

Every new chapter you told them that you hated the way their story was going along with one of the core plot points, until they caved and retconned out a few chapters, soon after which the fic died.
There's constructive criticism and then there's harassment.

Dark. if they pulled the story then it was more then just me with issues with the story. That says their was a fundamental flaw in the story.
If it was just me they can simply ignore or even block me. If it was just me and they dropped the story then they shouldn't be writing in the first place if all it took was little old me to get them to stop.
I recieved critism for me own work all the time. and i do consider them before moving on with the story.
I comment because i like the potential of the story. at worse a full story rewrite is what i desire. on average it ask for a chapter rewrite or seeing the likely progression to come ask to change course. still the author's choice in the end.
But let me ask you. Why do you think so many of the latest movies are crap? Is it perhaps the writing because the writer was not critized enough to get them to change course?

AQP, please take the following as constructive commentary and not a personal attack...
A lot of writers will take repeated criticism as harassment and drop a story rather than put up with it. Not because they feel there is something wrong with their story and it's just not worth continuing, but because they can no longer live with the emotional toll the comments place on them. I stopped commenting almost entirely in my stories for that exact reason.
For the most part, the emotional toll of getting into a flamewar in the comments of one of my own stories simply isn't worth heartache. So, I generally let comments fly past, even if I think they are massively wrong because it just isn't worth the cost to me. And I am far from being alone in that among writers on this site.
For the record, I do occasionally find you irritating and annoying. I also find that you also occasionally open my eyes to possibilities I hadn't considered. The real reason I'm stepping out from the shadows to write this however, are your recent comments about what happened in another author's work. I found your words to be:
Chilling.
Your comments had the same resonance of someone saying, "Ya, I roughed that guy up a bit to make him tougher. It was his choice to call it bullying and commit suicide."
And that is incredibly surprising because as someone with a hefty number of written words under your belt you should be intimately familiar with the power that words have. You know that words can create, and they can destroy. They can lift up, and they can tear down. That they can do this no matter their source, as what matters is the mind of the person reading them.
So, your words definitely figured into that writer walking away from that story. Whether or not it was a primary mover, I can say with 100% certainty that your words influenced their decision. Your words affect every person that reads them, including myself.
I'm not telling you to stop commenting, I'm not even telling you to stop saying what you feel, or give your honest opinion. What I am telling you is that your words have effects, and I am asking you to try to remain aware of the power your words have on those who read them.
Penalt
p.s. Despite my (vehement) disagreement with your comment about Nightmare Rarity, I did appreciate it because it raised intriguing story line ideas that I hadn't considered.

Yes they are. But what i also do it as you say conrstructive. I want a story i read to succeed. So i will point out the flaw and defend why I think that way. Since Dark has not mentioned the title of the story he is mentioning I can't say the specifics on what was going on there. Dark may be over blowing it.
As for the factor that started this discussion. Normally not a fan of NMM being a seperate entity because it shifts blame. Luna can shift blame for what happened to the entity and feel not as guilty.
What YOU are doing is something unique so I am not as annoyed by this and I am eager to see where this goes.
