Have you thought about adding the Dark tag? Also the character seems to be a major pushover.
5482802 To be honest, when I planned the story it wasn't meant to get quite this dark, I may have to consider adding that in the future though. As for the main character being a pushover, it's not like he has much choice, he has just been thrown in a world where he has no idea what he law is like or how easy it is to get another job. Besides, would you go against a bunch of ponies who could levitate you with no real effort?
He should write a letter to the princess and she should at least fix the medical bills. Then he can burn down the tree house

5494765 you're thinking of plastic surgery, not merely bandaging up a broken nose at an ER(which if it had actually been serious would have likely had pieces of the nasal bones ending up lodged in the sinuses or his brain which he would not have woken up hunky dory afterwards) average cost for an ER visit (which is the equivalent here) is around $1233(data from http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/03/02/an-average-er-visit-costs-more-than-an-average-months-rent/) in the US or around 5-600 pounds(depending on current exchange rate). but, the costs in a small town are most often far, far less than they are in big cities, meaning the cost would have likely been closer to the low end of the spectrum listed in the link.
