Once upon a time, in the time before Ponies came to live in the great fertile land now known as Equestria, there was a unicorn sorcerer known for his hirsute nature and eccentric adornments for his robes and hat: Star Swirl the Bearded.

It is said that in his time working for the court of the Princess Platinum of the Unicorn Tribe, he created many new spells with which Unicorns could shape the world around them, and was seen as a great stallion.

But this is the story of a spell he did not create, nor did he take from somepony else…

That was great, I love the predestination paradox. :twilightsheepish:

I loved this! Nice writing, and a fantastic use of the paradox. Poor Clover, though....

It looks like the father of time accidently made a spell that somehow got into the pony unuiverse.

:trixieshiftleft::trixieshiftright: Now where did that scroll of time went to I know I had it somewhere:trixieshiftleft::trixieshiftright:

:pinkiegasp: :facehoof: I left it in the pony universe hadn't I?

Oh I hope no one finds it.:unsuresweetie:

Well, the point is that the spell scroll that Star Swirl sees that he attempts to copy is a scroll he wrote himself in the future. The knowledge of the spell comes from nowhere, rather than the scroll itself. The scroll can be traced, but not the spell itself. :twilightsheepish:

I'd never actually seen the paradox in a pure fantasy setting, so I thought I'd have fun with it, while paying homage to the new episode. Though I also thought Star Swirl would be a bit more composed about such things than Twilight would be. I'm tempted to put Celestia or Luna through having to deal with the spell's usage in a continuation. That might explain why Celestia showed up cheerily to say hi to Twilight, because she'd been through it too~ :trollestia:

DAMN YOU TROLLESTRIA:twilightangry2::flutterrage:

:trollestia::trollestia:Dude you really made my day. Brohoof dude. Brohoof.:eeyup:

This is hilarious! :rainbowlaugh: You did a great job with the paradox, and I love Star Swirl's characterization. Poor Clover...

I enjoyed it, however it read more like a tell than a show story, and it was pretty easy to predict how everything would turn out. The last paragraph was genius though. Good job.
