Just a little writing exercise.

Maud Pie's not like most ponies. That's okay. She has a wonderful Ma and Pa, a sister coarser than sandstone but who still gets her, and she has rocks. Rocks make sense, unlike ponies. Rocks always tell you everything about them from the outside.

This unicorn filly is the opposite of making sense. She's dirty and hungry. She prefers to talk about Maud over herself, something nopony else does around Maud for long. And despite her age, she doesn't have a cutie mark.

Still, Maud's not one to look some gift quartz in the mouth. Maybe this stranger can help her. Herself too, for Maud's idea involves rocks. And rocks always cheer Maud up.

The overthrow of Queen Chrysalis and the ascension of King Thorax were meant to herald a major turning point in world history. A vital stepping stone towards a friendlier, more interconnected world.

Except the dreaded Queen was not content to go quietly into her exile. She vowed she would reclaim her kingdom, her birthright, even if she had to, in her own words, “set it on fire and rule over the ashes.”

Only six months on from that fateful day, in the spring of 1007 A.D., the Badlands region found itself plunged into the mayhem of civil war, reaching from the Hive that scraped the sky to the tiniest village of the outback. Neighbour turned on neighbour. Broodmate against broodmate.

Honouring her newly forged alliance with King Thorax and determined to crush the scourge of Chrysalis once and for all, Equestria rolled her forces into the Badlands for the very first time, no longer hindered by the Queen's now destroyed anti-magical throne. It was at this moment many historians would agree that the Badlands War truly began.

Raging until the winter of 1009 A.D., the war would go down as the most deadly and destructive conflict of the modern era, the profound effects of which would be felt by changeling and ponykind alike for generations to come.

The Desolation serves as an anthology of firsthand accounts of those whose lives were upended by this conflict, be they the Equestrian conscript who wanted nothing more than to go home, a young grub who was forced to grow up far too soon, or those thousands of miles away from the frontline yet still unable to escape its reach.

Jax, a young Griffon from Griffonstone has been traveling all over Equestria, but his travels come to an end when he finds himself working on a rock farm owned by the ponies. He does good work and he's the family in need. but one of them draws his attention, Marble Pie.

There is just something about that shy mare that fills Jax with happiness when he sees her. Can he somehow get her to notice him?

Once, she admired her sister, Limestone, for stepping up to manage the farm for their elderly parents; now, her admiration has turned to something quite beyond the familial love she knows well. But what will the target of her affections think about her abnormal love- Will she be accepted and her feelings requited, or will she be turned away and disgraced forever?

Having grown sick of Trixie's behavior, Starlight decides that she needs to be taught a lesson. After a talk with Maud, they come up with the perfect punishment to straighten Trixie out.
