This is from Helmet For My Pillow, a non-fictional recounting of World War 2 by Robert Leckie, a Marine who fought at Guadalcanal and other places in the Pacific. I'm trying to figure out why this story hits me more powerfully than the combat stories in the same book, and how or whether I can write anything like it.
Hello readers! It’s Tuesday, which if you’re a long-time reader of this site, you know is a little unusual for a Being a Better Writer post, usually only happening on the occurrences of a holiday or a work shift taking me away on Monday.
Yesterday was the former. I hope you all made the most of it!
Hi everyone. As you may have all noticed, I've once again fallen behind in any manner of being active on this site, whether it's answering private messages or posting new content. While on the latter issue a small part of the problem is my muse being a fickle, picky mistress, the issue itself is much larger and I felt I owed everyone who follows me an explanation, as at this time I'm not sure when I'll be in a place emotionally or mentally to pick up writing again.
Paul Asaran did a review of Goodbye, Boneless, and as usual, I'm grateful for his having chosen to read it and for the analysis. That said, the rating of "Worth It" reminds me of an important point, and as an author and a reviewer, I'd like to elaborate on it:

I finally have an outline I'm happy with, after more than a year of working on this story.
Of course, in the process, I seem to have increased the total expected chapter count from 14 to 19, and increased the length by about 50%, but there will be a lot more action, more feels, and more setting Fluttercruel's house on fire. (No, she's not in it at the time. Neither are the animals.)
There are fics I am working on (in a different fandom) that I have been working on since 1993.
I have a lot of unfinished fics. I have only ever acknowledged 3 of them to be permanently cancelled. Two of them, because I finally admitted to myself that I was never returning to that fandom again. One of them, because I took the OC out of it and made her the main character of an original novel, so I pretty much can't keep using her in fanfic.

Hotshotting, if you’re unfamiliar with the term, comes from pro wrestling. I’ll admit that’s a strange place to start a blog on writing, but given the staged (“fake”) nature of the business, pro wrestling has always had an element of theater and entertainment to it. The basic premise of “Two men don’t like each other, and people pay to watch them fight,” has sold out arenas across the world for decades.
As I type this, I am laying on the floor of our guest bedroom. Well, on my mattress, which is on the floor of the guest bedroom. We didn't fully set up my bed.
We're in the process of painting my room, then we'll replace the carpet, and then I'll be back to my room. My belongings will stay in boxes until we sell the place, and they might stay there for longer, depending on when we sell. There's really no point in unpacking if we move in May and I get my own place in June.
I have noticed that I tend to pace different stories differently, and one of the tools I use for this is control of chapter length. On one extreme, I wrote His Recipe For Love (NSFW, it's an erotic horror story with both sex and gore, set two and a half centuries before the series) as a single 11,334 word long chapter, something I did intentionally so that the reader would not break at any point, but instead absorb
For once, this has nothing to do with ponies. Instead I am looking to exploit the wonderful Fimfiction tradition of helping each other further our writing ambitions. I want feedback on something else.
Some light editing and polishing remains, but prepare for chapter updates in a few days or so.
I've written a lot of things since I joined this sight back in 2012, and I've dipped my toes into quite a lot of things. But there are some things I don't intend to ever write, either because they are not something I'm comfortable with, or simply because I feel there would little point in writing something.

Well, as it goes this time of year hours get shorter as malls begin to lose out to the beaches and boardwalks slowly opening along the stretch of the country I live in. As an hourly employee, that means money starts getting pretty tight now that I have something akin to a mortgage to pay.
