Generalizations are a dangerous thing. They often have exceptions, and require subjective judgements to make. The subject of today’s opinion piece, however, is a generalization that I believe in.
One thing I like about the FIM fanfic fandom is the abundance of reviewers and critique available. It helps authors grow, helps other authors learn from their mistakes, and helps inform readers of stories they may like or dislike.
I generally avoided being one of those reviewers for a long time. I usually preferred a direct dialogue with the author, so my critique would often take the form of a lengthy comment directly on the story in question.
Today’s story uses not one, but two twists. Since the first twist is fairly obvious (perhaps intentionally so), I have not bothered to spoiler-tag it.
Today’s critique is another “retro” one. It is an adaptation of a comment I already made, on a story I have already read, rather than completely new material based on a recent read.
The description and title are some of the most important parts of a story. They provide readers with their first impression, convince them to read it, and characterize your story even after it is finished.
Not a lot of things can or do bother me anymore.
For starters, I realised early on in my younger years that it is absolutely pointless getting worked up or worried over the little things, I.E, when you get picked on, called names or when you get singled / left out of a group. Unless it's very personally inflicted, it doesn't bother me. It shouldn't bother anybody, really.
I have reviewed some things that don’t traditionally receive deep criticism. I’ve done full length reviews of porn and a webcomic, for instance. Today, we add a Pony Music Video (PMV) to that list.
I’m continuing my critiques of the entrants into the Imposing Sovereigns II contest. We continue down my list of “finalists”: stories which I considered awarding points to. I would like to stress, however, that I only ranked them because FanOfMostEverything made me; they are all excellent.
I must also point out, I never read the comic involving Princess Amore.

Yes, you read that right. Today I'm taking a break from talking about fanfiction and magic equines. Today, I'm talking about corporate fiction and magic humans! I know it will be a transition for all of us, but there's more equivalency in writing quality than you might expect.

How much should you use dialect or constructed language? Very little. Note that I did not write not at all.
By dialect, I mean implying a southern drawl, or using specific words that imply a regional accent like “Darling!”1 or “Don’t ya know?“ or “A?” or “Brilliant”. By a constructed language, I mean everything from completely made up words to totally made up grammars. This includes writing in English but using a foreign grammar like Spanish or Japanese.
