Something has been plaguing Equestria for about 20 years now, but nopony seems to know what it is or how to make it stop. Everypony feels fatigued. They are not quite as energetic as they usually are. Even the alicorn princesses are dreadfully affected; Celestia and Luna have left their royal duties to conserve energy for their control of the heavenly objects, and thus Twilight Sparkle has taken up the mantle as ruler of Equestria - which is quite a challenge!

In the meantime, everypony is just living their life as usual. Twilight Sparkle's grandson, Morning Light, is trying to figure out where cutie marks come from, and maybe, just maybe, there is more to that than meets the eye.

After a year of magical research, Twilight thinks that she's done just that. But the spell is not without potential side effects, and AJ and Dash have to decide if they're ready to be part of a magical experiment that could give them a foal of their own, or cost Applejack her life.

When her train ends up derailed due to the snowstorm, she ends up somehow trapped in an ice cave, in a raging blizzard, with none other than Flash Sentry. Can these two star-and-dimension-crossed lovebirds thaw out the chilly Frozen North with their love, or are they doomed to freeze to death wandering aimlessly through the snow and hail? When Shining Armour finds out his sister's going out with a royal guard, can he accept it for the love that it is? Or will he totally flip a table?
