Luckily, Discord is there to make sense of it all.

Discord sits in a tree overlooking Fluttershy's cottage, as he has done for the past several days. Twilight Sparkle finally decides to confront him on this. Their friend has been returned to them after a long absence and they should be happy, right? Right.

Fluttershy is among the first Equestrians to receive the new telephones Princess Twilight Sparkle has just developed. It's a new addition to the shy mare's life, and an exciting one at that. Still, things are not as they had been, and that phone means a lot of space that separated her from her old friends could easily be bridged.

Three years is a long time to keep loving someone, is it not?

The Flim-Flam brothers are salesponies. They're good salesponies, at that. Throughout their careers, they've done their best to be honest, good gentlecorns. Sure, they've had a few misguided attempts here and there, but at least they always regret the things that they do wrong.
Sometimes, though, ponies have to take shortcuts in order to succeed in life. Survival of the fittest and all that. That's exactly what Flim and Flam are masters of. You might have to be a little bit heartless to succeed in life.

It's marketing to idiots that are stupid enough to fall for schemes and tactics that make them so great at what they do.
