As per the policy that tryptic MCs have to be miserable for the bulk of any long form story, I'm looking forward to finding out what this new conflict is going to be. A visit from Zephyr is an easy bet, but I swear Fleur would eat him alive. She'll feed him steak and key his Camero. She'll cure his personality disorder and then give him another. I'm not sure what he can threaten her with, unless her citizenship or relationship are on the line, and I don't know where he'd get the leverage. The guy is a pissant from birth. Anyone with that visual design was born to be inconsequential.
Maybe if he contacts Blueblood and finds a way to incriminate Flutters? Surely she'd puree the bastard if Shy goes to prison.

Yes and no. It’s set after Anchor Foal, but is very, very much AU compared to the “canon” Tryptic-verse, in both glaringly obvious ways, and less-obvious-but-still-very-noticeable (if you read it anyway) ways.

They have yet to visit Fleurs griphon parents. Also have yet to actually conceive that anchor foal as originally conceived in her ‘agreement’ with the Grimcess, and ditch her pastern monitor. Would not have thought there would be enough there for a full sequel, thought the first one ended pretty cleanly. VERY willing to be proven wrong though!

Anyway, on a more serious note, so when you mentioned a sequel earlier, you weren't just hinting at Fleur and Fluttershy's relationship showing up in Cerea's story? Interesting! Well, I look forward to the true sequel, then. :)

The “most special spell,” has been part of Estee’s continuity from the beginning. Allowing two mares to have a foal. It’s her explanation as to why mares outnumber stallions. Ponies have tried to create a counterpart spell to allow two stallions to have a foal but that has proven much harder.

Flutters and Fleur intend to use the “Most Special Spell” to accomplish exactly that: produce a foal genetically related to both of them without any stallions services. This spell requires them to have what would ordinarily be purely recreational sex, can designate one partner (Fleur in this case) to carry the pregnancy, only ever produces a filly, but does not influence her tribe. There is no equivalent for gay stallions and even top arcane theorists like Twilight don’t see much scope for one. The whole thing is an invention of Estee and is lurking in the background of all her stories. She uses it to plausibly explain Equestrias distorted gender ratio: over the centuries more mares are breeding more mares this way, and stallions are becoming scarce.
All this will inevitably have consequences for the already weird evolution of the species, there’s reasons males are near-universal in biology despite not being strictly necessary! Masculinity injects a dose of chaos into society, males don’t bear the burden of reproduction but do experience higher selection pressure. Immortal Celestia and the other guardians of pony destiny must be aware of the issue, but have not acted to suppress it yet. The spell was developed shortly after the defeat of Chaos, perhaps we’re on the cusp of another long-term change? Our next story will be the closest view we’ve had of the process yet, it’s only been mentioned in passing before. Looking forward to a bit more world building!
