Friendship is Card Games: Trixie and the Razzle-Dazzle Ruse

We return to the pony novels this week, and hopefully a better showing from the titular mare. Last time we saw Trixie in one of these, G. M. Berrow was channeling the fandom circa 2011 and making her and Gilda the designated antagonists of the piece. Let’s see what she’s up to this time.

Friendship is Card Games: Kenbucky Roller Derby #2 & #3

We return to the cutthroat world of G5 roller derby, where Sunny’s trying her darndest to prove she’s more than just a casual skater… and has assembled one of the most ragtag teams of misfits this side of the Mighty Ducks in the process. Let’s see how the story’s developed from there.

No, not mine. The Barcast's. The last call is currently under way, and if you want to hear my part in the grand interview lightning round, you can tune in at 4:20 Eastern/1:20 Pacific (about an hour from this posting.)

Yes, 4:20 on 4/20. No, I do not partake. Sorry to disappoint. :derpytongue2:

    Pest List

Just something I whipped together for fun one day, set to a possibly recognizable tune, all intended in good fun. And hey, given that I derived my Fimfic handle from a misremembered detail of the Mikado, it's only appropriate. :derpytongue2:

Kiyomegan, First to Ride · 9:41pm Jun 30th, 2018

Just an announcement for those who care and haven't yet heard: It looks like there'll be another hour-long Equestria Girls special airing next Saturday, starting at 11:30 EST. (I'll be in the middle of the Core Set 2019 prerelease at the time, but that's what recording is for.)

Of course, that doesn't explain the blog title. Certain eagle-eyed folks on Derpibooru combing through the latest promo do:

The question, of course, is what happens when she goes through the mirror portal.

Seriously?

Wow.

Hasbro just can-NOT resist sticking Gen 1 characters (Tirek, the Smooze) in FiM and now EqG (Megan Williams).

What's next before Gen 4 is finally in the books, and we move on to Gen 5?

Heehee! I love sly little homages like that, even if they have to be pointed out to me.

May Gain.

Megan shouldn't become a pony - she got to Equestria (or at least Dream Valley) without transforming. On the other hand, there's a difference between stepping through a mirror portal, and riding there on a pegasus, so maybe... IDK.

Just wait 'till she sees the ponies.

What the --- :twilightoops:

Why do I never find out about this anymore? An hour long special!? Shouldn't that have been announced weeks ago?! :rainbowderp:

....Gah, I never get around to looking through Equestria Daily anymore. :fluttercry:

Thanks for the heads up, I certainly needed it. :twilightblush:

Turns out EqG is actually pony gen 0 :rainbowderp:

Your reaction is mine. I only check in on EQD for EQG news occasionally and it was only by blind luck that the same day they'd posted that that special was coming out in a week with no marketing behind it up to that point. If not for datamining, we'd never have known.

Which, as someone very invested in EQG, worries me.

oh man :D

Generational callbacks are baked into the show's essence. Remember, this entire universe originated from how Lauren Faust played with her little ponies. Seeing them acknowledge their history is to be expected. (And it's not like Transformers and other long runners don't do the same thing.)

4892465
Looking at the etymology, "Megan Williams" can actually translate to "strong, resolute protector," which makes me consider the possibility that more thought was put into that particular choice than I've suspected.

4892466
Clearly the answer is to shove her in and see what happens. You know. For science. :pinkiecrazy:

4892473
Just wait until they see her! We can only hope that nopony thinks the return of the ancient goddess of war and civilization heralds the end times.

Here's hoping this isn't the start of attempted subfranchise homicide by neglect. I too enjoy the technicolor ape universe.

Well, would you look at that!

And this is why I wish I had regular television.

4892459 I don't suppose it is for some, but I kinda like a show that doesn't borrow stuff from a previous series, and taks a more original route.
FiM was perfect the way it was (imho) before Tirek and the the Smooze got thrown into it.

It's.... kinda what happened with the TMNT in the 2012 series.

NIckelodeon borrowed heavily from the cartoon's previous incarnations (minus the live-action Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation one from Saban (which some folks were pretty happy about, I'm sure)), and while it was an enjoyable show, some of us TMNT fans (up to and including me) were hoping that the studio would take a more original route, like 4Kids did with the 2003-2009 series.
Hence why, with many apologies to the original 80's series, the 2003 TMNT series is my all-time favorite, and will remain so.

Basically, it's just a disappointment to me, as FiM has come up with enough original villains (Nightmare Moon, Discord, Queen Chrysalis, KIng Sombra.... Starlight Glimmer) that they shouldn't have had to fall back on bringing in OLD Gen bad guys.

And on THAT note, I wouldn't much doubt that before the series is over, Hasbro ends up bringing in a certain ram necromancer to give the Mane 6 and Co. headaches.
Watch what I say.

4892497 Well, you've got a point there.

4892563 Well, yeah.
But, when they brought Lauren in to do the reboot, I remember reading (somewhere) that Applejack and Spike were the only characters that Hasbro still held the copyright on, so they had to come up with a whole NEW cast.

So BASING all the others off previous characters is all that Hasbro COULD do.

Really?
Figures.

Call me when Princess Twilight visits again.

4892473
You mean - wait till she tries to ride them.

That was a question she was asked of a pony when her adventures started.

"You do know how to ride, right ?"

Shouldn't that be Umamaro, First to Ride? Or Meganmaro? Wiriamaro?

I distinctly recall the Ancestor cycle being all -Maros, both because it's a title and because they all had the Maro ability (power and toughness equal to hand size.)

... great, now you've got me pining for the good old days of Kamigawa :raritydespair: And that wasn't even such a good set, unless you were a budget builder. Nothing funnier than playing an Ire of Kaminari deck and holding everyone hostage with four mana up.

Do I get a cookie for getting the reference right, at least?

Never noticed that. It's a nice little reference.
