I went to BronyCon 2019, and all I got was this hat.

Okay, you all know that’s not true. You can’t go to a MLP convention without coming away with swag. However, I did end up knitting an entire hat while I was there (and you probably saw it. I was working on it whenever I sat down).

    What? Who? Me?

I know, I know, you all haven’t heard from me in a while. Unfortunately I don’t have another story for you (yet), but I do have some news. This year at BronyCon, bookplayer, BlazzingInferno, and I will be doing a panel on writing children and families. I gotta say, I’m

    Bitter Onions

As promised, another story featuring our favorite pony—well, my favorite pony.

    Well, okay—my favorite OC.

    Okay, okay—my only OC.

Soupe à l’Oignon is featured in this story. It’s another scene from her perspective and was completely inspired by her last line in Sweet Carrots. I mean, how does she react to Pound and Pumpkin? They certainly didn’t inherit Mrs. Cake’s hair.

    Sweet Carrots, The Last Chapter

That’s it. It’s done. The last chapter has been posted. If you’ve been reading along, you should go read it now because the stuff I’m about to say is kinda, sorta spoiler-ish.

    Did you read it?

    I’ll wait.

    Good.

    Sweet Carrots, Ch. 6!

Oh, boy, here we go! Another chapter up.

Our characters were kinda, sorta in a bad spot last time. I’d apologize, but I’m just not sorry. Don’t worry, I make up for it with this one.

    Last chapter updates tomorrow!

    Epic Yarn, out!

Hello? Is this thing on? · 8:21pm May 25th, 2018

Hi. My name is Epic Yarn and I…am a brony.

I should’ve known I was a brony. I mean, it’s completely obvious now that I’ve admitted it out loud. It all started when I watched my first episode and thought “Hey, that was actually good.” I was just trying to find a show for my kids that didn’t suck or was super annoying (I’m looking at you, Nature Cat). Next thing I know I’m telling my husband he needs to watch this super cute show and then we’re watching ALL THE EPISODES.

I probably should’ve clued in when I bought a Rainbow Dash costume for our two year old’s first trick-or-treat night (she was sick the first year).

Then there’s the time I geeked out over meeting Tara Strong…then geeked out over meeting Lauren Faust. The fact that I know these names without having to look at IMDB is a dead giveaway.

Oh, and once, we gave the kids MLP themed Easter baskets…because we spent Easter at BABScon. That was the same year we cosplayed and I hand-made the costumes. My husband and I went as Mr. and Mrs. Cake while the girls picked their favorite pony (we couldn’t convince them to be the cake twins). We were all cute AF and I wore way too much blue eye shadow and dyed pink highlights in my hair. We reused the costumes recently.

So…question for you all. Is it normal to tear up during the episode where the Cutie Mark Crusaders get their cutie marks? Because, I totally cried. Twice.

Wow. I really am a brony.

Really. I swear. I never considered myself a brony till now. I thought I was just following my husband around because it was him who was the brony, not me. By the way, you all already know him because he admitted to his brony-dom years ago. He’s clearly a lot smarter than me (and also a very talented writer).

It was EFNW’s Iron Author writing contest that convinced me. I didn’t think I could pull off writing pony-fic, but I did. And I enjoyed it. Then I started watching character analysis on YouTube and browsing the wiki site. Next thing I know I’m making an account on FimFic and awaiting the mods to approve my story. I’ll probably write a few more MLP stories because the ponies in my head won’t. stop. talking.

Looks like I’m here to stay.

Cheers.

Welcome! :D It's ok, the ponies talking in your head is completely normal. Trust me. I'm a heartmender! :scootangel:

We're happy to have you! It was a pleasure to meet you and your talented husband at EFNW. I await your iron author entry!

Really. I swear. I never considered myself a brony till now. I thought I was just following my husband around because it washimwho was the brony, not me.

Of course not. He's a weirdo, but you're clearly totally normal. :ajsmug:

But more seriously, welcome. It was nice meeting you at Everfree Northwest, and I promise we aren't that weird.

Well, not any weirder than any other group of eccentric writers on the Internet, which I suppose isn't really saying all that much.

I’ll probably write a few more MLP stories because the ponies in my head won’t. stop. talking.

Hey, getting those voices in your head is the first step to getting them on paper. Or the Internet, at least.

If you're looking for some cool people, here's a few places to start:

Ghost of Heraclitus - a man from Undisclosedistan who writes lovely and very British footnote comedies, but also some more melancholic pieces.

Cold In Gardez - extremely talented writer, has written a broad variety of subject matters and topics, from deserted cities to comedies to powerfully emotional stories.

GaPJaxie - Another very talented writer who has written a broad variety of subject matters and topics, from a series of stories about the child actors playing the ponies on the show to comedies to moving serious stories.

Bookplayer - Yet another very talented writer who has written a fair variety of things, but mostly shipfics - she's written a bunch of great AppleDash (Applejack + Rainbow Dash) and TwiJack (Twilight Sparkle + Applejack).

Present Perfect - He's reviewed even more fanfics than I have. Very active user and writer.

I'd list more (there's a ton of awesome people on the site) but I don't want to overwhelm you. Though if you do want more, feel free to ask.

And if you're looking for some good fanfics, I've got some suggestions.

Welcome aboard, Yarn!

I have to say, you two are freaking adorable as Mr. and Mrs. Cake (I especially love the picture I have of the two of you at the Iron Author competition writing as them... and yes, I'll be posting them on my Retrospective blogs!).

I'd also like to say that it's really great the two of you can share this awesome experience together. Not a lot of couple get that chance. You guys have something really special and I know I speak for every guest, staff member and attendee of EFNW when I say that we're proud to be part of the reason you finally took the leap.

Eeeee. Now I'm even more excited to see your stories! With Regency-Era Ponies, I can definitely hook a few of my more literary friends!

It was totally awesome hanging out with the two of you last weekend and I hope to see you guys at the next one!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I’ll definitely be checking them out. So far I’m loving this site and all the cool ways to connect with people. BlazzingInferno has pointed out a few stories I should look at as well. My to-read list is going to get really big! :pinkiehappy:

I can’t wait to see that picture! I didn’t even realize you snapped a picture of us during the competition. Although, me not noticing because I was busy writing doesn’t really surprise me either.

I’ll see what I can do about regency-style ponies. It would be a fun experience. BlazzingInferno suggested if I managed to do Jane Austen ponies, I should name it “Pie and Prejudice.”

Never fear, though. The pony story circling my head is a cute love story because cute romances are super fun to write.

Fantastic name.

...and I'm always up for a cute ship. ALWAYS.

Hi. My name is Epic Yarn and I…am a brony.

(chorus) "Hi, Epic Yarn."

It's a little crazy to look back sometimes. I've been here since 2012. This show has defined more or less an entire era of my life.

I'll be looking forward to seeing what comes from your pen!

Welcome! Also, if you're looking for stories to check out, you should check out Austraeoh!

Will check them out. Thank you!
