My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Season 7 Episode 12: "Discordant Harmony" (SPOILERS) · 2:35pm Jun 21st, 2017

(...fuck it. I'm not waiting until the DFC run to post my recap blogs of the newest leaked eps. Hell, nobody else is.)

In which Discord hosts a tea party...OF CHAOS!! (Not so much.)

Discord realizes that Fluttershy puts a lot of work into hosting their little tea parties, so he decides to host the next tea party at his place. In typical Discord fashion, he goes to extremes. In the process of preparing for the party, he traumatizes a number of salesponies around town in typical Discord fashion. Then Pinkie Pie tells him he's overthinking things, and he realizes he's made a complete mess of his "different, special" tea party. So he goes to extremes in the opposite direction, completely remodeling his house to be...more normal, less Discord.

After all Discord's preparations, Fluttershy arrives, and...she's completely disappointed because there isn't any chaos to be found anywhere. But a boring, ordinary tea party is the least of their problems: Discord becomes so unchaotic he begins to fade away. Fluttershy has to force him to stop acting "normal" and act like Discord again. When that fails, she tries to solve the problem by being chaotic herself.

Which is...absolutely hilarious and adorable. Hilaradorious?

After delivering the moral (which basically boils down to "opposites attract"), Fluttershy gets the chaotic tea party she was expecting, and everything's groovy again.

This episode...is very solid. It's cute, it's funny, and Fluttershy really delivers some choice comedy. What more really needs to be said? I'll give this one a 9/10.

I really liked the other moral on this one: Don't feel you have to change yourself to make others like you. It'll ruin what makes you you and leave a hollow facade in its place.

And yeah, fun episode, especially in how it showcases how much Fluttershy has learned from Discord, and vice versa.

I personally saw the moral as: it's fine to put on airs for friends, but when it gets to the point where you're not truly being yourself it's no fun for anyone.

4578187 Hey, anything that can tear that pathetic excuse of a comic arc a new one is okay in my book.

I just found this episode rather dull, making it the weakest of the season

Hilaradorious

Brilliant.

4578187
I thinks it's safe to say everything from the comics is non-canon by now. I still prefer what happens to Discord here, and it actually makes more sense.

4578237
...dare I ask what happened?

4578414 Long story short, the Accord arc involved Discord "Changing" himself into the opposite of Discord, yet he couldn't change himself back, and in the end everyone was neutralized by him except Starlight who basically got plot armored to win. Oh, and the mane six basically acted like they were okay with Discord having completely become something else, with only Starlight truly having any cause for concern. Put it simply, it's the absolute lowest of lows for the comics!

He left out the part where the group retrieved the Elements of Harmony from the Tree of Harmony and used them against Accord with Celestia standing in for Magic, and it backfired and brainwashed them because Accord is a being of order so the Elements side with him.

Huh, so we basically got confirmation that Discord HAS to be chaotic, as in physically has to cause some sort of chaos or bad stuff happens. Now if only he could figure out that this doesn't mean he has to be a jerk 90% of the time...

Erm, "Fluttershy Leans In" was all about Fluttershy displaying assertiveness when other ponies were being stubborn. She didn't have to "overcome shyness" at all in that episode.

And how the ponies had to apologise to Discord for being upset that he put his ego above their wishes, nearly ruining a literal once-in-a-lifetime happening for them, after they asked him to please behave.
The message in the comics basically was "If your friend acts like a selfish jerk, bend over and take it. You don't get to complain."

4578703 Yeah, I forgot about those details, but can you blame me with how badly they were written?

4578742
Nope, not blaming you. It was pretty bad and doubly painful because the buildup was great and the potential immense. So much wasted potential makes you not want to remember.

4578271
That really looks like one of those words Pinkie Pie would make up.

This episode was cute and fun right up until Fluttershy began causing chaos herself, which put it over the top into fantastic.

4578874 It just means the Elements of Harmony were misnamed, they're really more the Elements of Order. And clearly they don't know jack, they're just magic rocks after all. Maybe the real moral is "listen to your own conscience, not a magic tree/rock?"

Yeah, this episode made me ship Fluttercord. I never thought I'd start shipping Fluttercord.

4581224
I was 🚢🚢shipping🚢🚢 Fluttercord before all the hipsters were shipping Fluttercord. 🚢🚢🚢🚢🚢

4581228
Sounds about right. You were into all the cool ships before they were cool.

Hey, don't think I ever asked, but what do you think of RariJack?

4581262
I don't think of Rarijack at all, actually. Or Raridash or Appledash or any of the other Mane Six ships. Just not my thing.

4578447

I kind of got the feeling that if the Twilight had been there they'd have worked right

I liked the moral of this episode. You're perfect the way you are and shouldn't change who you are. Discord was pretty funny in this one. And Flutters was cute while trying to act chaotic.
