My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Season 7 Episode 8: "Hard to Say Anything" (SPOILERS) · 3:43pm May 27th, 2017

In which every Big Mac ship ever is ruthlessly blown out of the water.

Big Mac's been making a lot of apple deliveries to Our Town lately, and the CMC are curious as to why. Especially since Big Mac has a strange reaction every time his apple delivery to the end of Equestria is brought up. They decide to follow him, taking along some "spy disguises" that are just silly prop wigs, hats, and glasses.

It doesn't take them long to figure out what's going on: Big Mac has a crush on Sugar Belle. Unfortunately, he also has competition: a smooth-talking pegasus named Feather Bangs. Everything Big Mac tries to do to woo Sugar Belle (on the poorly-conceived advice of the CMCs), Feather does better. The rivalry comes to a head when Big Mac and Feather try to out-serenade each other and wind up pissing Sugar Belle off. After everything fails, the CMC apologize to Big Mac, who then realizes that the best way to impress Sugar Belle isn't with all this fairy tale hoo-hah, it's by doing something that means something to a hard-working pony like her. He builds her a new, bigger display shelf for her bakery, and that ultimately wins her heart. The CMCs then help Feather learn to have a conversation with his three admirers who have been following him all over town this entire time.

This episode has just the right amount of zany to be funny from start to finish. Any episode with Big Mac as a central character is welcome, and the CMC being up to shenanigans again shows they still have a lot to learn and a lot of growing up to do, meaning their character arc is nowhere near complete just because they're professional Cutie Mark counselors now.

I was sick in bed when I watched this episode and it put a smile on my face and gave me the energy to get up and fart around the house. In the end, that's all I can ask from any solid MLP episode: watching it makes me happy. I don't really have anything to complain about with this episode, so I'm giving it a 10/10.

I SHIP IT!!!

I rather disagree with you on this one, Moth.

I mean oh my god.

Can we talk about Feather Bangs?

Fucking... Bieber wannabe.

Feather Bangs had potential. He could have been a great rival for Big Mac, could have given him a proper run for his money with Sugar Belle's affection. That would have been an excellent episode!

Instead he was the Doin'-It-Better-Than-You guy.

That. Was. Literally. His. Only. Character. Trait.

The way they handled it, it feels like if the song and the shelf building had been switched around then Feather Bangs' shelf would have been epic, and Big Mac's song about the way he felt would have been what won Sugar Belle's heart.

And then we get to the biggest ass-pull of the ENTIRE FUCKING SERIES.
Feather Bangs has a hard time talking to girls because he fucking does being shy better than Big Mac too.

Because of this episode, i now ship FeatherLee.

And yeah, its definitely hilarious.
Not the best of the season, but certainly in the upper half.

a smooth-talking pegasus named Feather Bangs

MythrilMoth, Feather Bangs isn't a pegasus, he's an earth pony.

At least fluttermac isn't a concern now.
FLUTTERCORD FTW!!!!!

I didnt see it at the time, but the comments on derpeboo really nailed it.
Beauty and the Beast parody.
So we may never see this ship again.
Big Mac has really bad luck with the ladies. Or he has something really disturbing in his personality that sends the mares running.

Pretty good, but I think I'm gonna personally ship CheeriMac and PartyBelle for the time being. MacinBelle would have to be a long distance relationship, seeing as I don't think Big Mac could just keep going over to the village all the time to be with Sugar Belle, and Sugar Belle doesn't seem interested in moving to Ponyville.

So it looks like Big Mac-ship ... (I think) #14 is canon now (at least until the next episode he appears in)
Now the important question: Big Belle or SugarMac? Both sound like fast food restaurants...

The beginning and the conclusion between Mac and Sugar Belle were okay, this ship sure was a surprise, but I don't mind that much.

The rest of the episode on the other was cringe inducing. Having the CMC giving love advice to Mac based on fairy tales was already bad, though props to Mac being firm against the Love Potion, but what seriously jump the shark was Feather Bangs. AS Flisky said, everything about that pony yells Justin Effing Bieber. :pinkiesick:

4548961 Ah. I thought he was a pegasus. Eh, it's irrelevant and I'm too lazy to bother fixing it.

4548968 Yeah, that's my big issue with it too. LDRs are hard to make work, especially without the Internet.

Yes yes YES! I liked the episode but Feather Bangs ruined it for me. I have nothing against Justin Beiber but you can tell the writers made him an exaggerated version of JB and he was super annoying.

Also, I get you're from Canada DHX, but sometimes it's not good to shove certain things down our throats. (I know maybe half the fandom will disagree with me but whatever.)

One huge complain about this episode:
Dude doesn't kiss girl he's not dating to wake her up. Like... no, just no. :pinkiesick:

When I heard about Feather Bangs, I wished he wasn't another Zephyr Breeze.

When I saw Feather Bangs, I wished he was another Zephyr Breeze.

Just saying.

Sorry, but this one is one of the most cringe-inducing episodes I've seen in a while. Like, I'd rather watch ten episodes of Bow Hothoof and Windy Whistles going gaga over Rainbow Dash than watch that Big Macintosh/Feather Bangs song again.

Has Big Mac learned nothing? Never trust the CMCs with anything not involving getting a cutie mark.

Sugar Belle sure does have a lot of suitors. Guess making good muffins now has done her love life good.

I kinda would like to see Mac either move out to The Town With No Name or Belle move to Ponyville. It would be interesting to see how the writers handle a relationship from inception to fruition.

*looking out over an ocean* Huh. So that's why I woke up to many a destroyed boat.

It certainly was cute. :rainbowkiss: Also, it was funny with Big Mac saying, "No love potions!" and the CMC in their disguises. Sugar Belle certainly was cute in this episode. I thought it was also funny with the first two fairy tale things, especially when Feather Bangs rode off into the sunset and Sweetie Belle said, "Hey, that's our metaphorical sunset they're riding off into!" I can hear all those other Big Mac ships crashing and burning now. I did hope that MarbMac would be a thing, but since it's partial incest, I guess not. Just saying.:twilightsheepish:

You are literally the first person I've seen say anything positive about the episode, Moth. Makes me hope for it a little when I get around to watching it!

I found Feather Bang's voice slightly irritating, and I didn't really care for the song (Battle for Sugar Belle), but that's because I do not care for either style of music in the song. But Big Mac can sing, credit to him.

Well, after watching it...

I feel the Cringe overtaking me. It is a good pain!
