Late to the party again · 12:24am Sep 20th, 2016

So I've finally been reading through the monster stack of IDW comics I picked up at Bronycon.

I know some of y'all don't like them, but I thought I'd highlight this particular page.

Besides answering the question of how do ponies swear (adorably),* I draw your attention to the book titles next to Sweetie Belle.

Just whose book is that?

*It also raises the question of why Sweetie Belle has a microphone, and not a match, in her cutie mark.

The book titles in the backgrounds of the comics are almost always good value. The Reflections/Sunset short ones were particularly great.

I dunno, I always thought cracker was a pretty racist term. lol

Autopsies for Fun and Profit...

Now that would make a fun fic/professional novel/basically anything with a name.

I'm more interested in Pinkie's second word bubble.

Look, every unicorn goes through a megalomaniacal phase. Rarity considered going into biomantic design to create models she could tailor as much as her dresses. Like most unicorns, she grew out of it.

In hindsight, leaving her books on the subject at home was probably not the best idea.

4217825 Indeed, what would make an everyday suit different from a birthday suit...

4217825 4217855 Hmm, a couple fanfics have postulated that babies in the womb have some sort of caps over their horns and wings so as not to poke holes in their mother. Maybe "birthday suit" is a reference to that?

Or maybe Pinkie's just being meta again... though that does raise the question of how Rarity understands it.

Or maybe "birthday suit" in Equestria actually means wearing a party hat?

Maybe it's a boom mic. :twistnerd:

I wonder if Pinkie got Gummy back when she was into the My Tiny Gecko craze.

The look on her mother's face: A mixture of pride and Well, she's not dead.

Wait, so Rarity believes in aliens?

On average the comics are, well, kind of average, but there are plenty of great bits.

I love the comics! Andy Prices drawing is just super and funny. I always enjoy finding all the little details he puts in every panels.

Ah, Herr Doktor Fronkenstein's book. How nice.

I know! I need to write some of them down and use them in stories, 'cause I'm always bad at coming up with stuff like that.

In one of the holiday specials, DT and SS had a game about geldings.

If I could think of a plot to go with it . . . .

Even more entertaining, later on in the comic, Pinkie uses the word 'nekkid.'

The library. Twilight has all sorts of questionable books in there.

At least Sweetie Belle followed the path to arsonist instead of necromancer. Which is probably for the best.

The party hat.

I think that they just have small, soft horns, and the wings stay tucked up against the side during birth . . . four hooves can't feel good, either, y'know.

And 'birthday suit' is a euphemism for being naked as the day you were born, in case you're not familiar with that particular phrase.

I wonder if Pinkie got Gummy back when she was into the My Tiny Gecko craze.

That . . . actually makes a lot of sense.

The look on her mother's face: A mixture of pride and Well, she's not dead.

That's such a great look. I hadn't really noticed it until you mentioned it.

4217927

Wait, so Rarity believes in aliens?

She wants to.

4217959

On average the comics are, well, kind of average, but there are plenty of great bits.

Some of them have so many wonderful background gags, along with little things that make you go WTF. Like in the one where Rarity goes to the hippie-resort 'spa' and puts a framed picture of Applejack next to her bed.

4217966

I love the comics! Andy Prices drawing is just super and funny. I always enjoy finding all the little details he puts in every panels.

Me, too!

Don Rosa did that in Uncle Scrooge comics, too, and that made them really fun to read.

4218009

Ah, Herr Doktor Fronkenstein's book. How nice.

Maybe the year before Rarity made costumes for the school play, she animated the dead.

That would be quite the science project.

4218127

She does. Apparently the ponies aren't big on censorship, even when it's a really, really good idea.

4218154 If I can't find somepony to play this part in the play, I'll make somepony for the part!

4218125 Now I imagine an X-Files story with Rarity as Muldor and Applejack as Scully lol

That book is beautifully morbid. I feel more inspired to bring that mortician pony OC I've had brewing in my head to life.

4217848
So... Rarity as a Stitcher? In an alternate timeline, I could totally see that happening.

4218135 Oh yes, I know what it means in the real world. There in Equestria, on the other hoof, where ponies go out like that every day...

4217927 Oh, of course she believes in aliens! She met them herself, on the Moon, when she was a Nightmare!

How I Did It by V. Frankenstein was a nice nod to Young Frankenstein. I actually just watched that with a friend the other day, in honor of Gene Wilder. Rip.

Well, I'd say that was some successfully dynamic thermics alright.

Sweetie Belle did it. It's her autobiography

4218125

If I could think of a plot to go with it . . . .

Rarity one day discovers there is a massive trade in poached Unicorn horns in Griffon Stone.
She also discovers that she really likes cutting ponies.

At least the goggles worked.

Maybe it IS a match.

4218212 That is some epic tier Lunar "oofing"! :rainbowhuh:

4218009
That's Fronkensteen! :pinkiegasp:

NEEEEIGH! :raritycry:
