An important message for a dark subject, give a read

Pen Dragon has made an passionate and important petition, one I think is best served by their own words. So please, for the sake of a benign website that has brought such entertainment and joy to many, give this a look.

    Important message about Suicide

WARNING: Discussions, however brief for the sake of tact, about self-harm and suicidal thoughts are in this post. People especially vulnerable to such should ensure they are in a good headspace before reading. This sort of trigger is no joke.

    Chapter 56 Promo!

In an isolated, abnormally large, hollowed-out tree might not be the typical abode for megalomaniacal n'ere-do-wells. Though, there was a reason both of them had opted for current accommodations over the typical kingdoms and castles, in one form or another. The area was absolutely inundated with dark magic. From the eerie glow that some of the plants gave off, to traces of black aerenth crystals

The Bridge: Alien Races, Xilians and Mysterians · 7:30pm Sep 5th, 2015

Tiny something to chew on as I finish up Chapter 24 (90% done!). Enjoy! Pictures might come later.

Xilians
Species: Dividitur genus
Other Names: Xilien, Planet X-Aliens
Appearance: Either remarkably or eerily human-like, abet with certain traits such as flatter noses and larger eyes. Varying shades of gray skin with near white or near black hair and eyes. Have very obvious, large black veins around the eyes, tear ducts, and throat. 5'5-6'5 depending on age, gender, and occupation. Attire and aesthetics vary somewhat depend on rank and occupation; but tend to be simple. The sole exception in terms of coloration is the racial leader, who's eyes and veins can vary from white (males) to violet (females).
Government: Segregated demi-governments or guilds for every core career, each with an elected or promoted head. Said head meets with the other leaders in a council that answers to the Controller, whom is effectively the emperor or empress. The Controller also has an advisor called the Regulator, whom is often the previous Controller retired from age. The positions on the council and even the Controller itself are chosen, rather than passed through based of lineage. Despite being a gender neutral society, there has been a curious rule against female Controllers; despite claims from the Mysterians this wasn't so during their time on the planet and that one did exist three hundred year ago.
Traits: Many Xilians either are more susceptible to telepathy or are minor telepaths themselves. Usually their degree of psychic influence is limited to emotional empathy within close associates. Upon adulthood, each caste has slight augmentation done to them to help secure their role. There is a limit to how much augmentation one can receive safely, so it's often limited to basic traits such as enhanced strength and perception for soldier caste, and enhanced memory and coordination for medical caste. The most extreme augmentation is reserved for the Controllers, whom require both a rare genetic compliance with the changes as well as their previous qualification. As such they gain most of the abilities of the other castes as well as a massive boost to their psychic abilities to amount of telekinesis and telepathy.

On the more mundane side, Xilians have an odd adherence to raw math and numbers. This could stem from a number of factors including the fact their planet has two suns and two moons. Everything is numbered, even the individual is given a title based off their position and numeral rather than a full name. Typically quite stoic as far as races go, though given how the Mysterians behave more, for lack of better terms, 'normally', this seems to be a recent trend.

Xilians however have two distinct weaknesses. Due to sensitive hearing, excessively loud noises are very painful to them. Additionally, due to their sensitivity to telepathy and empathy, and the Controller being so powerful in these aspects; a mentally unstable Controller can be a great determent to the Xilians around him or herself by consciously or unconsciously influencing them.

Armament and Technology:
-Warp drive capable
-Advanced bio-engineering
-Numerous war ships and plasma weaponry
-Monster X
-Gigan and Megalon (technically owned by allied Nebulans, but Xilians assisted in their construction often could call over the Nebulans to send them over)

Mysterians
Species: Dividitur genus "mysteriod"
Other Names: Mysteriod Xilians (GDF designation), Colonists (Self title), Traitors (Xilians)
Appearance: Almost identical to homeworld Xilians with the exception that their body colors tend to be much more on the middle gray scale than extremes of black and white. Due to living on Terra, many of the few pure bloods left have taken to dying their hair and skin to more closely resemble humans. Having very few soldier castes in their ranks, most Mysterians are under two meters tall.
Many living 'Mysterians' are actually human hybrids, whom tend to more closely resemble one parent over the other in terms of color.
Government: Very similar to Xilians, with the exception that their leader didn’t undergo the same augmentation as the Controller and was instead referred to as the Captain, whom didn't have any special augments. Due to being isolated and having more restricted access to augmentations, most Mysterians are a mix of a variety of castes in rather than significant specialists.
The difference is due to the Mysterians descending from a Xilian colonial and mining vessel that fled their home world several hundred years ago, wandering through space for centuries. Salvaging what they could and retrofitting other technologies, such as turning their mining robot Moguera into a military weapon, they sought out a habitable world and found Terra. Initially acting aggressive, the Mysterians' superior technology was eventually defeated by overwhelming numbers from the Japanese and American militaries, as well as a chance earthquake crippling their base. After their defeat and captivity under C.C.I. (Crisis Control Intelligence) in which they were forced to reverse engineer their technology and kept in containment; sympathies for the alien refugees swelled especially when the truth of their 'invasion' and the innocence of many held captive came to light. After being free, many Mysterians chose to naturalize into the world governments and even intermarried with humans. The hybrid offspring turned out to be not only viable with some aid from medical technology, but extremely potent, and were the super soldiers and psychics that sprung up in the 1980s. Due to their circumstances, the Mysterians that survive are now part of the Terran governments they live in now. Many hybrids and pure breds currently work inside the Global Defense Force.

When the Xilian empire invaded Terra during Final War, they discovered the Mysterians and initially received them as a curiosity, like a lost colony. However when the Xilian Empire showed its disregard for human life and seeing the Mysterians as backward curiosities from a bygone age, the Mysterians broke away and swore allegiance to Terra, accepting it as their new home. Hybrids Miki Seguesa and Shinichi Ozaki proved instrumental, battling the Xilian Controller directly.

Traits: Like homeworld Xilians, most Mysterians have some innate telepathy to the degree of empathy. This is helped by most of the colonists being made up of science and medical castes. While not able to read minds, they can pick up on subtle mental and bodily motions; making them and their hybrids notoriously hard to lie to.
Like homeworld Xilians, Mysterians used to use numbers for all their designations and positions. In their decades on Terra however, namely in the generations of both pure bloods and hybrids born on their new home, influence from Humans has caused this to begin to fade away. It's not uncommon for Mysterians or Hybrids working alongside humans to have two names, one Terran and one Xilian. Miki Saegusa, a well known psychic from the GDF is such an example, having a Mysterian father whom refers to her as Researcher 022.
While not nearly as susceptible to loud noises as their ancestors, Mysterians still dislike loud noises and have a much lower tolerance to radiation than both humans and Xilians.

Armament and Technology:
*Most has been taken and reverse engineered into humanity's current armament
-A single large colonial vessel that can double as a base
-Moguera mining robot
-Numerous small arms and plasma weaponry
-Most of the GDF's current mechas were created both by reverse engineered Mysterian technology as well as Mysterians themselves working alongside humans. M.O.G.U.E.R.A. especially was modeled after and even used some of the framework of its namesake's wreckage.

Interesting

I have to wonder why they had "M.O.G.U.E.R.A. 2" do its little dance. Although that is what made me a fan of it in the first place.

Very interesting facts about the xilians and mysterians. Now I have a description of X's wife. :pinkiegasp:

Some fleshing out of the alien races nice.

I wonder when we'll see the full slew of alien races that you, james, and me have all cooked up. Speaking of which, now that I knwo the pattern to use, I can get to work on mine so james can review it[so as to chip out any potential issues before it heads your way, of course]

And where Monster X got his coloration from.

3371251

Always loved Robo-Woodpecker, especially after the games gave him a dance and poke'mon speak.

3371528

This upcoming chapter now has my attention :duck:

3371238
3371383
3371476

Thanks. Basically I took the Showa Age versions (hence why they aren't fish people) and grafted on some of the organization structure, coloration, and visible veins of the Millennium versions. Noting how the Mysterians fled from another world and how the Final Wars Mutants were human-Xilian hybrids, I thought it interesting to insert them in as an offshoot of the Xilian species. And it spins the Mysterian 'invasion' attempt on its head a bit, as instead of completely malign invaders, the Mysterians were more desperate colonists running away from something. Helps add a bit more of gray morality to the non-human races.

So, basically that X kid in Final Wars is a distant cousin to the Mysterians and a more modern controller than in Invasion of the Astro Monster?

Nice bit of background information. Now, though, I have a question it brought up...

What, exactly, were the Mysterians fleeing in the first place? one must be very, very desperate to leave an inhabitable world with no set destination and no guarantee of a safe, habitable world at the end of the voyage.

3371599

They probably did have a destination in mind, but their ships warp was damaged during the escape so they got flung off in a random direction. By sheer luck after moving across space for a few centuries they got to Terra. As for what caused them to flee? Well... let's just say when they left their home planet, the world was on fire from a 150 meter tall arsonist.

3371586

More or less. Think of it like species and subspecies. Mysterians are Xilians; same species, but isolation and genetic drift, both by time and artificial means, made them distinct enough to form a new 'breed' or subspecies. The only reason humans haven't branched out is we went through a severe genetic bottleneck about 70,000 years ago that wiped out most of the population; removing a lot of genetic diversity. Otherwise by now it be quite possible that humanity would have formed new subspecies like it did in the past.

3371583 That is where I first saw it, not sure if it is anything else, the dance that is.

3371662 I don't think so. It was pretty funny.

3371565 So confirmed not all aliens are evil human-hating asshats?

AWESOME! This makes things so much easier for me.

3371675

Well the Ultras, whom effectively amount to giant sized police officers who fight kaiju, are a thing in this universe as well; as well as possibly the Zone family. It's just that none of them have reached Terra just yet. Currently pretty much all of the Mysterians work alongside humans in exchange for being able to live on Terra. I'd imagine that if you walked through a GDF base you'd find one or two.

That and a lot can change in over three centuries for some races...

3371684 Yeah. Me and James are working on reviving two aliens from my first novel to become potential human allies in the earth half of the setting. They won't show up until about midway through the Final Invasion, though, likely after [DATA REDACTED] has been beaten.

3371701

You dare use the [DATA EXPUNGED] against me?

3371712 I hope not..... I honestly dread what'll happen when [DATA EXPUNGED] shows up....

Any in-universe explanation on how humans and Xilians/Mysterians can make babies?

Progenitor race?

3372228

Maybe they pulled a Star Trek with that idea? Not sure. But hells if it happened in Final War's weirdo backstory I'd buy that it could happen here.

Fiction has no biochemical barriers for some reason.

3372252
Eh, I'd just go with "Xillians are descended from Ancient Earth Civilization colonists."

3372252
By "pulled a Star Trek" do you mean the two species are somehow genetically and biochemically close enough to reproduce without assistance, somehow producing viable fertile offspring, or do you mean the Mysterian's biotech was able to give a "push" both to allow for conception and to insure the offspring would themselves be fertile with one of the parent races? The later has been explicitly stated in series, but the former is also implied.

3372606

I'd say its a bit column A, a little column B. Yes there may be a remarkably close resemblance as is, but just to make absolutely certain it works the Mysterian's technology, aided by the fact many were of the medical and engineering castes, likely helped bridge the gap and sidestep any dangers.

Nicely done bit of backstory Tarb, nicely done indeed. The Mysterians being a sibling race to the Xilians is a good choice to further interconnect the universe.
The Mysterian backstory is a bit like my own. Though I chalk the coincidence up more to logical necessity than anything else.
The structure that you've given to the Xilian society is complex and very sound. Something that we humans might come-up with if we were less independent in our thinking, like ants a bit.
Though it makes me regret that I'll be ending my expository prequel works before the arrival of the Xilians, I do always enjoy the expansion of the mythopoeia by dedicated fans.
