Cadance of Cloudsdale (so far) now in Spanish!

Thanks to the generous SPANIARD KIWI, the text of Cadance of Cloudsdale so far is now in Spanish! Mr. Kiwi has done a tremendous amount of work translating many of my stories into Spanish, but this goes above and beyond. If you're curious, you may visit the project so far here at this

    Happy Cadance Day 2024!

Things feel a bit subdued today, due to the coincidence of Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday through a quirk of the liturgical calendar. It is somewhat difficult to juxtapose the splash of corporate-encouraged love with the festival that literally exists to remind us of our mortality. The pink of Valentine's washes against the purple of Lent. So I'm in a pensive mood, more so than usual on this

    Ciderfest is a wrap!

Just got home from PVCF and it was an amazing con experience! The minific-based ARG that circulated around the con the whole weekend was high-concept, and I was worried about engagement, but everyone seemed to really get into searching out the hard-to-find stories concealed around the convention hall (in places as obscure as "the desktop wallpaper on one of the monitors in the video game room,

Pinkie Pie · 7:34pm Feb 12th, 2015

So this is the sequence of events: I go downtown to a known candy store I've never patronized to look for Tutti Frutti jellybeans for my spouse.  Store display in question is prominently decked out in pink today (for the upcoming Valentine's holiday) including a prominently placed Pinkie Pie plushie.  I suspect they were just piling as much pink as they could into the window but it's possible someone's in on the in. The air inside is thick and heady with the smell of sugar and gelatin and artificial fruit, and the visual shock from entering from a drab Wisconsin road-salt winter into this blazing pink and orange and yellow rainbow land was a profound one. Anyhow, bad news, they don't have that flavor in bulk.  Not finding what I wanted, I left the store...

...aaand it was all like OKAY I DON'T GET THIS YOU WALK INTO A CANDY STORE WITH A *ME* PLUSHIE IN THE WINDOW AND YOU HAVE LITERAL MONEY IN YOUR POCKET *AND YOU LEAVE WITHOUT BUYING ANY CANDY?!?*  So I'm all like, okay, Pinkie, we can have some candy and she's all GREAT!  WHAT KIND OF FLAVORS OF CANDY DO YOU LIKE?!?

...it did not help that the proprietor was an easy-going fellow who encouraged people to sample things before buying them.  Not because I took a lot of samples (I had what I thought was a reasonable two small pieces) but because after taking two small pieces I felt beholden to buying candy I would not have otherwise bought. And, oh boy, did I have a cheering section.

Long story short:  I am in something of a low-grade carbohydrate haze right now.

Lesson learned:  If you bring Pinkie into a candy store, set hard limits.

Further proof that Pinkie Pie exists in at least 4 dimensions.

I once discovered you could just buy PEZ in huge bags. So I bought two huge bags and ate them. It took three days and was about 20,000 calories and I started to see and hear things. :pinkiecrazy:

It was amazing. :pinkiehappy:

Pinkie is a candy enabler. There is no escaping her desire for candy, and her desire for you to have candy with her. Pinkie knows that candy makes you happy...

Now for the real question on everyone's mind: Did you buy that Pinkie plushie? I think you need a Pinkie plushie.

2791023
Eh, it's not just her, although most people in my head don't have that kind of sweet tooth. Also they don't encourage me to put like a half cup of Sriracha on my food. (Except my very first real writing character from college, who still hangs around and will get me sick on hot peppers if I let him loose. He's to blame for hooking me on hot sauce in the first place, way back in, man, 1997 or something.)

Also now I have to brush my teeth for about a half hour.

2791037
Did not purchase the plushie. Should I have?

2791046 I don't see how you could have resisted the sweet, sweet siren's song of pink adorableness. You have a will of iron. Or maybe an Iron Will. Did you buy an Iron Will plushie?

2791059
No, because that guy's a jackass.

No offense, Cranky Doodle Donkey.

(None taken.)

2791023
…bringing the total up to 37.

2791037 2791046 2791059
It's understandable, really, he was in too much of a sugar daze to realize his duty to himself and to the multiverse.

I am familiar with the experience of having head Pinkies, but I've never heard of externalized ones before. I'm not sure whether this was a work of cunning genius or dumb luck, but in either case, I'm sure the premiere party pony would approve.

2791236
Disney's Gravity Falls, episode "The Inconveniencing." Some context will explain why I brought it up:

2791023 She is the Axis on which the worlds turn.

All Beams lead to Pinkie.

2791292
You should! Gravity Falls is damn good. (And, of course, there's a ponified opening for it.)

2791422
I almost -- almost -- feel embarrassed that I was hearing praise about Gravity Falls from any number of sources, but it took exposure to that ponification for me to actually check it out. (In my defense, not only is it a fantastic video, it exposed me to the excellent theme music and, shortly thereafter, the beautifully animated canon intro.)

2791027
I never would have predicted that you had done this thing, and yet somehow it feels quite natural and in-character for you to have done this thing. I do hope your teeth survived the experience.

Okay, this seems like as good a place to share this story as any. My brain is quite comfortable housing just the one personality, as evidenced by my lack of stories. However, I think in words, and often my inner ramblings require my subconscious to supply a captive audience (which may find reflection in the self-indulgent wordiness of my outer ramblings, as those who have seen my comments can attest). This is almost always a meatspace friend with whom I could imagine conversing about the topic, but when it's not, it's usually a cartoon horse (which probably correlates to how FiM impacts me differently from other fiction).

I don't listen to the radio when I drive, so driving alone is a great source of these silent, one-sided conversations. I was stopped at an intersection in Santa Cruz, California, which for those who don't know has a disproportionate homeless population, one of whom was talking to himself at the corner. Upon seeing this, I thought, "Gosh, I sure am lucky that my interaction with the voices in my head hews to this side of looking sane...

...Isn't that right, Twilight?"

As soon as the words were out of my mouth brain, I realized that addressing the imaginary cartoon horse in the passenger seat was not the compelling evidence for my mental normalcy I was looking for. I haven't been that successful in shutting my brain up in years.

2791470
I actually share Pinkie's metabolism. It's kind of crazy how much I can eat, and I need sugar on a daily basis. Sometimes I eat next to nothing and sometimes I eat like an earth pony, but sugar is a constant. I get a lot of dental work done. :pinkiehappy:

I drink around 2L of Mountain Dew per day. I've been trying to cut back since I have a slight tremor now. This is a problem when I want to draw things, but it is also a problem because I would like to know if I'm getting Parkinson's given I have the face nerve issue too. :pinkiesick: I'm not quite 40 yet.

On a more personal note, I do the same thing, which does not help your sanity defense. I have, um, a being I talk to who is obvibbiously head-generated, who has been around since my mid-teens. She can take any form she likes, so Pinkie is very common nowadays, though she does have a form of her own. It is nice to be able to get Pinkie hugs whenever the need arises, which is a lot. Also, when I changed my name, I used her name as the first half of my first name. :pinkiecrazy:

Now I will go back to pretending I never said that last paragraph. It had been many years since I'd spoken of her.

2791571
This post reminds me of another from Skywriter, and the comments section is starting to remind me of some of the comments there.

You say set "set hard limits" as if Pinkie Pie would let you.

She's an enabler. You need to get rid of her.

Pinkie, I mean. Not your wife.

2792312
Eh, no worries. I think once was enough. And to prove it, I am going back to the same store today and not even sampling a thing!

2791571
Thanks for sharing that, TQ.

2791470
You have no idea how happy this anecdote makes me.

I know how this can be. Luna's always enabling my insomnia.

2793274
Either that or keeping you awake by shouting?

2793517 She's more cuddly if I don't sleep through her night, and she's just pleasant to talk to :)

2792854
This seems obviously fraught with peril. We will require an after-action report so we can all be amused at your utter failure to resist your/Pinkie's impulses.

2792855
Skywriter likes something I wrote AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

2793554
No, it worked! I successfully bought my spouse a Valentine's gift and did not eat a thing.

Then, back at the office, I scarfed a bunch of goldfish crackers for Cadance's sake. So still a very carb-y day. But at least I'm not light-headed and ill from it.

I'm not sure 'Pinkie' and 'limits' can safely occupy the same sentence.

2794209
Fair enough reasoning.

Yea, I usually only have conversations with one character, and being a very active but no frills science type if anything she'd try and talk me out of buying too much candy. While I'm nearly constantly running conversations between characters in my head, lately mostly ponies, they don't really have anything to say about my life.

2794424
I get a lot of opinions about my life choices shot at me by the horses. A lot of opinions.

"So you're not going to use conditioner, today, then?"

"RARITY I AM IN THE SHOWER HERE"

So maybe Pinkie can't convince you to buy candy, but what if they had a different pink pony on display? One more adequate for your purpose for the candy?

2796624
This would absolutely work if it were Princess Cadance brand Macaroni and Cheese. Or perhaps grapefruit.

2796746
The pink one hears, and she compels. "Make the Mac 'n' Cheese Bites," she says, "and get an adult." See the blacks of her eyes, and never forget that the windows to her soul are clear. Crystal clear.

I liked the Luna one where one was to make normal sandwiches and then cut them into moon shapes, and that was the end of the recipe. One of the reasons I liked it was that this is very credibly how Luna prepares her sandwiches, and also the extent of her culinary skills.

2797147
Well, you can take heart that you're throwing all those edges away when you cut out the shapes.

2797204
There's half a pound of butter in there as well.

Well, that's got me beat.
