It is the dawn of the year 1268ALB. For a century, the daring captains of exploratory vessels have lived action-packed lives of adventure and wonder on the fringes of known space. But once the danger of the week is thwarted, contact made with new civilisations and the magnificent starships move on, commerce follows in their wake.
The crews who ply the shipping lanes are a different breed from those swashbucklers. Their vital work brings with it a slow, quiet life. Voyages of months or even years to distant worlds leave plenty of time for crew to become family, often literally, and those born in the intersteller void feel most at home there, be they continuing their parents' legacies or enticed onto the crews of the renowned explorers.
Unfortunately, space is vast and in the infinite night still lurk ancient terrors, and a freighter far from home is far from aid when its daily life is interrupted. Too often, the sacrifices of their crews go unremembered by the explorer-enamoured public, but some tales are not forgotten.
