Novelle Tale

just another golden hour cryptid getting through life one crunchy-witch-hippie story at a time

E

Night Light: husband, hobbyist astronomer, and dad of two.

He always knew his incredibly talented and powerful children would have equally amazing lives & adventures. It's just that he's only now starting to really realize it. Shining Armor is already a young adult, off to the Academy. But Twilight...

Twilight is still young. They can play, and watch the stars together, and he can teach her about galaxies and nebulae and comets. He still has time, they still have time.

But it's starting to feel like there isn't enough.

An entry for the Quills and Sofas Speedwriting 'Hearts & Hooves Day '23: Types of Love' contest.

Cover art commissioned from the incomparable Shaslan! Fimfic chewed up the quality a bit, but I guarantee the original is positively stunning. :)

Lemon Hearts never thought she'd make much of her life. She was always too much or not enough, never just right.

While teaching modern, formal dining etiquette to the newly-returned Princess Luna, she comes to realize that her feelings of inadequacy are not as singular as they always seemed.

This story is a sequel to Gifts from a friend

All Fluttershy had ever wanted was to be a good friend to the girls, to take care of her animal friends, and to have tea with Discord. She never thought those things were bad, for anypony, and she certainly never thought they'd be weaponized against her.

But the nightmare is finally over.

Or so Fluttershy hopes.

A commissioned sequel to Gifts From A Friend by Element of Malice, written as part of a special commission drive to support our friend, Luna.

Everyone always tells Twilight that the ones who love us never truly leave us.

But that's a lie. It's always been a lie.

Things that live must also die. It's simply the cycle of life, and that cycle doesn't care about love or the pain it causes.

Until one day, that cycle is broken by a forgotten figure from her past: a little tortoise who's not so little anymore.

This story is, first and foremost, a gift for the incomparable Mushroom, who clearly must be some sort of undiscovered species of fungus dog since we definitely don't deserve her. I have it on good authority that this story gave her Many Feelings, and I hope it gives them to you, too. :)

This also won first place in the of the Quills and Sofas Speedwriting '2021 Gift Fic Exchange' contest portion, which is neat.

Cover art commissioned from the lovely Shaslan!

This story is a sequel to Cutie Marks and Broken Wings

Learning how to fly had been the start of Tawny's life: a real one, not the shoebox-sized concrete cage her captor had neatly shoved her into as a filly. But the shoebox had been familiar, if claustrophobic, and safe—a known quantity of hoofsteps and ceiling cracks, unlike the outside world of Equestria.

Learning how to live was proving to be infinitely more complicated.

Fourth place in the of the Quills and Sofas Speedwriting 'Expanding Universes II' contest. Each entrant was tasked with expanding the universe established in another author's story—my prompt story was Holtinater's Cutie Marks and Broken Wings .

First place in the of the Quills and Sofas Speedwriting 'Batpony/Thestral' contest. The prompt was "stereotypes". Cover art by the lovely Scarlett Sketches--thank you to the folks who found the artist for me.
