Twilight receives a letter from Princess Celestia one night, instructing her to complete the included spell left unfinished by Star Swirl the Bearded. Curious, she casts the spell as an experiment. Just to see what it does, really. She goes to sleep disappointed; it's hardly a spell at all, just a little shifting of the magical currents inside her. It definitely needs work.

The next day, Ponyville is in chaos. No, Equestria is in chaos. Everypony's cutie marks are different. Their destinies are different. And they are not handling this change very well.

As for Twilight? Well, her cutie mark isn't exactly different.

It's gone.

A simple re-imagining of the Season 3 finale (in three parts or "episodes"), with a simple goal: To maintain the strong characters and nuanced morality that defined My Little Pony: FiM at its peak.

I like the concept, but it feels very odd written in past tense. Looking forward to more :pinkiehappy:

Woo, first to upvote this! :yay:

I really like the idea - MMC was far too short and weird, and it deserves a longer and subtler treatment. Also, it's well written so far! Present tense is an uncommon choice, but it doesn't hurt the story at all as long as you're consistent.

"Of course, the argument can be made that the series has been veering further and further from itself for a long while now, an argument I'm inclined to agree with." What do you mean by that?

"Past tense"? Thanks for the comment, though. :pinkiehappy:

Thanks for the comment. I hope I don't disappoint.

I guess I just feel that the first season was the most internally consistent. The characters were stronger, and the lessons learned more subtle and pragmatic. They were more consistent from episode to episode. I have a working theory that Hasbro shifted creative control from the actual creative team (sans Faust, which was already enough of a blow) to... I dunno, maybe their marketing department or something. But every decision from the Season 2 premiere on has had this underlying and unsettling stickiness to it, like they're trying extra hard to push the toys and plushies and games and every other aspect of the franchise at the cost of letting the story and creativity stagnate.

That's not to say that they can't or shouldn't push the toys/plushies/etc., but there's no reason they should have to sacrifice in the storytelling department. You can do both at once.

In terms of percentages, (ex:10%) how close is the next chapter to this fanfic to being completed?

Sorry for not responding in so long. I must have missed your message.

The next two chapters are up, and hopefully I'll be able to finish Part 1 by the time of the season 4 premiere.

What if Applebloom has Daimond Tiara's Cutie Mark?:applecry:

Have you ever considered submitting this story to Equestria Daily? You can find out how to do so here.

Are you planning on doing this with other season three episodes? (I will PM you this just in case you miss this one too.)

I haven't given serious consideration to submitting it. If I do, though, I'd like to finish Part 1 first, just to give any judges/critics/etc. a better idea of where the story is going beyond just novelizing MMM.

I don't have any plans for rewriting other episodes, but it could happen if I ever work up the motivation.

Thanks again for commenting. It's so nice engaging in dialogue with someone who enjoys my work!

3560915 ...I don't know weather or not to say "Thanks!" or "You're welcome!" Why don't you just pick and choose.

What a spectacularly dull ending for that one, too.

Wait... You didn't like it? Please, tell me why! (I'd prefer a PM.)
