Equestria is in disarray. Civil war has consumed the land, and two nations have emerged. On one side, Equestria. Celestia's loyal lands fight as the Army of the Solar Empire, and in command is General Twilight Sparkle, Celestia's most trusted student.

"I cannot raise my hoof in battle against our fair Princess. For Celestia's glory, and for the preservation of our nation, I shall give my all!"

On the other side, a new nation has formed. It is the New Lunar Republic, and it's army is under the command of esteemed Ponyvillian General Applejack.

"I did not wish for such a tragic conflict to befall us, but I will never betray my home, my land, Ponyville. I will fight to my last breath to protect my home from the Solar invader!"

Upon her return, Princess Luna described the terrors of her banishment, and rallied for secession from what she described as "Celestia's dictatorship". In response, Ponyville and several lands to the south of it, such as Appleloosa, The Everfree Forest, and Dodge Junction, declared secession from Equestria, and, with it's capital at Ponyville, organized The New Lunar Republic.

Celestia would have none of this, and, after Lunar Forces attacked Solar-controlled Ft. Swirlter, organized the Army of the Solar Empire to put down her sister's rebellion. The Equestrian Civil War had begun.

For two years, the two armies have fought battle after bloody battle, with neither side gaining a clear advantage.

After a stunning victory at Trotsllerville, Gen. Applejack hatches a bold move: She will lead her army into Solar territory, destroy the Solar army in a final battle, and threaten the Equestrian capital at Canterlot. If all goes to plan, then the Equestrian government will be forced to call for a truce, and formally recognize The Lunar Republic.

Gen. Sparkle moves her army northward to intercept and stop the invading Lunar army. She knows that she must repulse this invasion, or else all could be lost for Equestria. On July 1st, the two armies both converge near a small town:

Fillysburg.

Uh... no, not just no but Hell No! To equate the NLR with the Confederacy is ludicrous... have you read the history, know the causes of the Civil War?

Have you ever walked the battlefields and felt the eyes of fallen upon you? Have you ever thought why would I support a cause the promotes slavery?

Union, Now and Forever.

As someone who has a huge interest in the Civil War, I know the causes of the American Civil War. I know the Confederacy was in support of slavery, and the states of the Confederacy seceded because they feared slavery would be banned upon Lincoln's election. They also felt that they had a right to secede at any time that they wish.

Where did I ever say that the New Lunar Republic supported slavery? Where did I ever even BRING UP slavery?

The causes of the Equestrian Civil War are not the same of the American Civil War.

And yes, I have visited dozens of battlefields. I've even been to Gettysburg. I've walked where thousands fell. I've seen where all this took place, and an endless number of photos of soldiers who fought and died in that war. I do not mean to offend any of them, or push any agenda, or anything ridiculous like that. All I want to do is create a story that is fun to read and relates to a topic I greatly enjoy and understand. Nothing more.

Pinkie Pie as Longstreet, I'm guessing? She'd be more like Pickett. (Pinkie's Charge!) :pinkiegasp:

Interesting premise. I'll be interested to see how this goes. Just don't have Applebloom be Armistead...

Awesome :pinkiehappy:. I don't know much about the ACW, but I'm looking forward to seeing where this story goes.
Long Live Celestia! Reunite Equestria!

equate someone with the COnfederacy you equate them with slavery

2910119 Yes, Pinkie will essentially be Pickett. She also could act like Longstreet, since I'm trying to have mostly mane characters playing the most famous roles. Then again, I'm not going to completely, thoroughly follow every event of the real battle verbatim, but the famous events like Chamberlain's 20th Maine on Little Round Top, Pickett's Charge, and Armistead's 26th NC's valiant final attack (High water mark), will all be told, as well as some of the storylines (I'm going to elaborate more on the causes of each side, as well as some of the personal stories of the characters involved.)

2910119 Thinking on it now, I think I'm gonna edit it, with Big Mac as Longstreet (and thus taking Pinkie's place in this chapter), and Pinkie as Pickett later on.

I can see Big Mac as more of a Longstreet (he's level headed and practical). Pinkie is Pickett, no question.

I assume you're basing this mostly off of the movie--nothing wrong with that at all--but if you've never read the book it was based on, "Killer Angels," you should. Don't be afraid to branch out a bit, too. I'm assuming Twilight is going to be Meade (again, that makes sense--Meade was an engineer), which would make Chamberlain...Fluttershy? Maybe Fluttershy's Stare is what wins Little Round Top? I guess it depends on whether or not you want this to be serious or not.

And people, ease up on the Civil War comparisons. Yes, the Civil War was about slavery, but this is a different tale. (Tail?) Just because Applejack is fighting for the South doesn't automatically mean that it's implied she owns slaves--she's not fighting for the actual South, after all, but a fictional creation. Maybe the writer just likes the story of the Battle of Gettysburg and wants to inject some pony into it?

2914377 In case you haven't read chapter two yet, Rarity is Chamberlain (Chamberlain was an ordinary school teacher, Rarity was an ordinary dress designer, so in a way it makes sense: In both the actual events and the story, they both come from ordinary backgrounds to be unlikely heroes.). Yes, Twilight is Meade.

Also, I am basing it mostly on the movie Gettysburg, though I really should read "The Killer Angels" sometime.

2914408

Man, I totally forgot about Rarity. You're right; she makes a much better Chamberlain. :raritywink:

Better read Chapter 2...

The confederacy will rise again. Goddam Yankees trying to tell us how to make our money and then tariffing our ports the next day. Leaving all the debt to us while they with their high faluting morals take our money as "taxes". No wonder a war started, messing with my money is like messing with my emotions.

who's the jackass disliking everyone's comments? :trixieshiftleft:

This adventure is going to be so much fun. Where can I watch the full version? badland
