How do you pronounce the title?

Assuming you are American...
Folk, as you would normally.
Van, is a bit more nasalized than what an american would say. More like how a british would pronounce 'van'.
Gr is is often pronounced as 'gur'. Or as in 'gar' in some variations, or even ger (anger) but you tend to 'roll' the r either way.
Old norse, even if it has modern versions, is a bit of a dead language.
Actually, I'd appreciate it a lot if some Scandinavian could explain better than I can.

I recognize the name because of Fire Emblem Heroes and it's also from the section of Norse myth that Marvel has glossed over. Couldn't help but interject there.

Half the slain warriors went to Odin, to Valhalla. The other half went to Freyja, to Fólkvangr. She is an interesting goddess because she kinda spawned from the same cult to Frigg/Frigga... At some point they started worshiping them as different entities: Frigga, Odin's wife and Freyja, Asgard's resident horny goddess.
Some studies say that contact with the roman and greek cultures influenced that split because of the worship of Venus/Aphrodite. But it is funny because every single norse god was also a god of war, so a better comparison would be Ishtar from the Assyrians. The Allmother in this AU is meant to reference both Freyja because the northerner griffons are a bit on the norse side, while their ancient culture is heavily based on those peoples from the Fertile Crescent. Mostly assyrians.
While the cults the ponies followed went in the same veins as the greek-romans and gaelic/celts.
I completely missed that Marvel mentioned it, but then again it's been a looong time I haven't messed with comics.
Now normally, a cult is a bad thing, but I will reserve judgement until more is revealed
Eeeee this story gets better and better!!!
Cultish propaganda just wouldn't be believable if you didn't blend the truth (at least MLP canon history) with their fiction well enough. And the better organized cults have to be ready to at least try to answer the inevitable questions on the discrepancies. Doing so makes it much harder to pull out the truth based on the evidence--unlike the current standard of totalitarian regimes that simply and immediately condemn you for any questions with the usual prison/reeducation/execution for the charge of "being a counter-revolutionary"
Both are dangerous to the commoners, but the former is far more subtle and insidious.

Two things any cult will do is :
1- conflate the truth and their myth (or the myths of others with their own myths). For example Our Lady of Guadalupe, Thor's Oak, greek-egyptian gods such as Serapis... Heck, the whole Ptolemaic Dynasty that assumed the mantle of the God-King.
2- Create a 'us vs. them' mentality. They always need to protect you against something and promise something as a reward.
If you think about it, MLP itself did it very well, given the restraints it was under, with Starlight Glimmer and her village. But, talking about this story, it would be very easy for the griffons to claim that the ponies used the Windigos as a weapon as on their side that sort of magic didn't exist and they were already in a conflict with the ponies, since, as Gilda thinks of, there is plenty of material evidence that they fought over the lands to the north.
But what I find fascinating about a high fantasy setting is that magic exists and some claims that would be impossible in the real world become much easier to accept. Such as souls and memories associated with them, super-powerful beings that one could call a god with not that much mental gymnastics. Then the fact that beings like Discord and the Windigos exist. I'm not even gonna touch on Celestia and Luna yet because it's not the time. It was what gave me the idea for the whole alternate universe, way back in season two.
I just know something is up with the Allmother and not just from the cult propaganda. From what I can tell thus far she's just jealous of the temporal power Celestia has but I could be mistaken at this time.

I won't spoil it for you.
What i can see yet, this allmother is.... either malevolent, or just want revenge. Sadly a true Godling woudnt act on petty revenge. a god soud be above and beyond that.

This is a fair appraisal of her character but it is more than revenge. She truly believes the ideology she preaches (and fully knows that she is doing morally reproachable things), but that is for you to see if you read on. I will not spoil it for you.
