"Why are we camping outside, in the cold, again?"
"Because hero there dropped a giant bird on top of the damn inn!"

I heard one of their songs. It's Hugin and Munin from their album Skál. It's one of my inspiration songs to write the northerners.
I've had little free time lately, but I'll add them to the other list of songs you suggested. Also, see if you like Gilead. Mainly their newer albums. Vatt'ghern is a must listen.

True, but the story is from Gilda's viewpoint, and she's currently following The Harpy due to her experiences. After all, no one but a villain wants to follow a Villain--especially when that Villain is trying to fool you into thinking She's the hero.
Yeah! All caught up, now!

Very interesting.... given how much Luna apparently does know, and yet, as you imply--she doesn't.
Still, it's going to be very interesting to see how Gilda is supposed to be able to convince The Harpy. After all, if someone as crazy as Discord can't convince someone as insane as the Harpy to reconsider her plans, what chance will a lowly mortal griffon have?
Something else that stood out that got my attention from the last chapter: I wonder if Grunhilda is the reincarnation of Gilda's former mate when they were all still just animals? It would also seem that Gilda was one of several children directly created by Aya Harpyia at the Dawn of Creation--so, have we been seeing several of her soul-sibs throughout these stories all this time??

It's because the empire's shenanigans and the origin of the conflict are only half of the the problem. The other half of the problem, as Discord said way back in Piece of Parchment, lies with the ponies. And that is what Luna doesn't know.
Gilda has a much more intimate relationship with The Harpy than Discord.
Yes, but it's irrelevant, because in the end all the griffons are 'soul-sibs'. I keep a tally of which characters hold the original souls, but it's not really relevant other than The Harpy fawning over them IF they're born in the right bodies. Even if The Harpy recognizes their souls, they would have no access to their soul memories either. Gilda has a unique combination of soul, biology and sequence of past lives that makes the whole thing work seamlessly.
I'm working on that.

Even so, Luna did recognize that ponies were part of the problem. Luna pointed out the Harpy ".... That might makes right", then at Celestia ".... That might makes right"--both convinced she was right and for the same reasons, both there to protect her own, both more alike than different, and both stubborn as all Hades.
Luna might not know of some specific matter that the ponies did to really piss off Aya Harpyia or the griffons in general, but she was wise enough to understand the motives of both sides--and that the conflict originated so many different cycles ago that whatever specific causes were, they were lost in all those Markovian resets--only the emotive drive for both griffons and ponies to fight remained.
Irrelevant to the Harpy, but wouldn't it be relevant to Gilda? Gilda does have (some partial) memories of those cycles, and I wonder how they could perhaps influence her own interactions with other griffons if she were able to piece the puzzles together well enough to start making guesses about them.
YEAH!

This is why the Windigos don't believe there will be peace between them. That is why, even if creatures are educated to seek inclusivity and tolerance in the Federation, the jerks, such as Neighsay or the unicorn that one of Gilda's nurse friends mentioned, will inevitably dislike griffons.
Dreammaker is an origin myth, and as such it is meant to explain the present
But this is still the 'griffon part' of the problem.
In the pony part of the of the problem, it seems as tough ponies learned something with the griffons. Because, isn't it curious that creatures as selfless and friendship-oriented as the ponies, originally lacking free-will eventually started showing traits such as selfishness and prejudice? Keep that in mind. And that is all I'm going to say.
She doesn't need to piece together anything because it's instinctual. She's already doing that and isn't noticing.
Gilda's sappiness in the beginning of the latest chapter is because of the soul memories Luna shoved into her. She was shaken by the way Luna told her the fate that would befall her new friends. But you were right about Grunhilda. You just missed the specific connection. Souls are gendered because of the whole magical mechanism required to sustain cubs in the womb. So, Grunhilda couldn't have been that male griffon.

Cool!
Looking forward toward the next installments!
